A new supernatural cooking manga arrives on the scene! You may recognize the artist as having previously written a manga about a boy who has the devil king as the pet. It was a drat fine manga, so I have high expectations for this one! Can Of Worms fucked around with this message at 00:16 on Jan 21, 2017 |

Just read that one, it's pretty charming for a first impression so I'm looking forward to more. I want tempura youkai now. Next best thing is tempura shrimp and/or eggplant.

Darkly comedic as it is, it does a good job at making me crave sushi. The chicken skin with ponzu from Wakako-zake sounds good too.

I'm reading a bunch of manga lately so I ended up powering through all of Silver Spoon and Wakako-zake in the last two weeks or so and they were amazing as expected, loved Nomi Joshi too. Need more chapters soon..., I'm glad Wakako updates seems relatively frequent. Slowly working though Dungeon Meshi which has been pretty funny so far and I've been enjoying the cooking stuff in Golden Kamui so far, also grabbed a few of of the manga recs from the thread like Shinya Shokudou, Shinmai Shimai and Kinou Nani Tabeta. Probably going to watch Ristorante Paradiso before checking the manga out too. Food fiction yeah! Moyashimon not getting translated is such a shame because I loved that anime Knorth fucked around with this message at 10:51 on Feb 1, 2017 |

Great manga and I wish they had a American equivalent to izakaya bars or snacks here. I can't afford to go out for meals often but I want to try interesting foods instead of just drinking.

Theoretically, that's what tapas bars are supposed to be, but the only places that serve tapas around me have dishes for like $18 a pop.

It completely slipped my notice, but the Japanese drama version of Shinya Shokudou/Midnight Diner has a season on Netflix it looks like. Gonna give it a watch hell yeah, it's basically a new season from what I gather.

Some bad news, the translators of the Mermaid manga are putting it on hold. So instead, I present a webtoon I read recently! It's called Michelin Star. It's about a Korean chef (middle guy in the image) who wants to earn Korea's first Michelin Star. Except it's not, it's actually a drama between a French cuisine restaurant and the corporation that's trying to buy it out. The writing takes a few chapters to find its feet; it doesn't know exactly what kind of story it wants to write at the beginning but it settles quickly and becomes the story about a failing restaurant finding its feet again, and its struggles against the plans of a corporation that wants it to fail. There's lots of drama and twists, and honestly it reminds me of stuff like Romance of the Three Kingdoms with the kind of scheming going on. The second part in particular was a really fun read, and the art is really good. The food porn? Exquisite. The artist worked with an actual chef (the inspiration for the main character), showing off their dishes and there's even a small side chapter with the photos of the dish. It ends up being similar to Shoukugeki no Soma, with the chefs coming up with intriguingly creative dishes, but more grounded and less insane reactions. Before I link to it I'm going to give one big warning. This cannot be emphasized enough. The series only has 62 chapters translated so far (Part 1 and 2). Part 3 does exist, but it's untranslated, and from my research Tapastic was the original translator and the project seems to be dropped a few years ago, so don't expect any new translations anytime soon. This, unfortunately, can be a problem if you care about the story because Part 2 ends on the biggest loving cliffhanger imaginable. It's ridiculous. In any case, you can find the translation here. There is one silver lining: as I mentioned before, Part 3 *does* exist, just untranslated. If you don't care about the plot and you want to see more food porn, or you can read Korean, then you can find the raws here: http://comics.nate.com/webtoon/detail.php?btno=48736&bsno=375573 There was apparently also a kdrama for it, but I can't even find any evidence that it aired. Hopefully someone will pick up the project again!

Midnight Diner on Netflix definitely has the Netflix treatment because the camera work is quite nice making the food look very delicious. Kind of a funny thing is that during the opening sequence, you can see an advertisement for the Deadpool movie, probably because it was shot around that time.

After checking, a drama was in talks, but never got made. The announcement was in early ~ mid 2015, and then no actual news since. Hasn't been officially cancelled as far as I can tell, though, so who knows.

Yeah, they're split into two parts, Summer & Autumn, then Winter & Spring. I think one of my favorite foods that's cooked is the homemade Worcestershire sauce and tomato pasta.

Holy hell someone's scanlating Mogusa-san. http://kissmanga.com/Manga/Mogusa-san Mogusa-san is a comic about a girl who really likes eating and goes out of her way to devise tricks to eat (or eat more food than she appears to be eating) without people noticing. It's utterly cute and hilarious and I seriously recommend it.

i read the first chapter of that and it is less about a girl who likes to eat as it is about a guy watching a girl eat while thinking how moe it is. i think the whole situation is skeevier than naked foodgasms.

quote:http://kissmanga.com/Manga/Mogusa-san I'll read this and report back. EDIT: My thoughts; the MC is indeed an awkward herbivore loser who at least has the decency to realize he's being an awkward weirdo but holy poo poo he actually asked her out on a date in the first chapter, that puts him leagues above 99.9% of male MCs who are flip floppy about that poo poo so kudos to you dude. Overall, needs more food illustrations, but I kind of want rice and fried chicken now. Compendium fucked around with this message at 03:10 on Feb 28, 2017 |

Little Forest is such a good manga, wow, I loved seeing all the things she cooked and grew Mountain mom... I'm going to try my hand at this potato bread Makin' cabbage cake This greedy bear... The scans I found skipped from chapter 16 to 31 and I couldn't find the others anywhere else, so that was pretty disappointing. I suppose this never got an official release over here either Still, looking forward to watching the movies this weekend Ah, nevermind, the other chapters just weren't in the usual places I check lol Time to read more mountain cooking Knorth fucked around with this message at 03:43 on Mar 3, 2017 |

I hope you enjoy the Little Forest movies, after reading the manga, I'd say it keeps the same atmosphere and progression in a very nice way instead of deviating too much in an attempt to have "story." I mean, the bits of backstory seem a little more prevalent since it's in a screen format, but the focus is definitely on the harvesting and cooking. Meanwhile, it completely slipped my notice, but there were two new chapters of Mister Ajikko. http://bato.to/reader#fad2fbd51ccbae59
