Wookiee ship is from Rebels.

The goofy TIE fighter variant has spaces cut out of the panels because it's got a rear turret, so it kind of makes sense for them to be like that.

I'm curious what intensity does, since they put the actual action side down (with just showing how to reset it face up).
It's great that they're releasing duel-faction ships rather than making people wait for a aces pack to get the other faction's ship (on the down side, as a non-scum player this makes me actually want all the ships in the wave).

The idea that they're using the epic reinforce action on a small base ship is intriguing.

Also, I guess it's nice that imperial gets a TLT ship now, though it's definitely one of my least favorite metas in the game.

Rey + Poe gets you a Falcon and an X-Wing together. Han + Jake would be Falcon + A-Wing. A quick google should find you full loadouts for these.

Pick any combo of TIE Fighters, TIE/fo Fighters, and TIE Interceptors for the Empire.

Fat Han (3po, old title, engine upgrade, predator, gunner) +3z vs countess Ryad and some combo of 4-5 crack ties or regular ties or Howlrunner.

Start with fewer obstacles, 0-3, and go hands-on in setup with your bud to put the 4 TIEs in a pinwheel. The instructions are "dial in the same maneuver on all 4 TIEs, every time." Flying in formation is one of the coolest looking parts of X-Wing on the table, and Star Wars is cool so this should be too. The concept here is swarm flying.
Vader's concepts illustrate how fantastic having two actions are, without the dial limiting stress downside from Push The Limit (which requires thinking a little further ahead to the next turn or the one after). Also, how boost/barrel roll can scoot a ship out of arcs and the power of rerolls.

For Rebel, I like the idea of Fat Han and a T-65 or T-70 ace with regen. The Rebel list will probably wreck the imperial list though.

If you guys don't mind proxying a few cards I recommend flying Fat Han and Jake. It's what I learned the game with. It's easy to fly and has enough depth to it that he will learn something every time he plays with it. Also it's just plain fun

Jake Farrell — A-Wing 24

I don't think Fat Han is too high skilled of a list. It's got a turret, so it's shooting at least every turn it gets shot at.

The thing that I'd be worried about is the complexity from all the triggers and abilities to remember (boost, gunner, predator, pilot ability to do full reroll, C-3PO). That's maybe what you meant anyway.

Fun Shoe
I agree the reinforce action on small ships is cool and probably something we should have seen from the start, to emulate how in the movies they talk about redirecting shield deflectors (as another poster said).

When I teach X-Wing to new people I go slowly with the powerups and cards. Exceptions and special cases are anathema to good learning for beginners. You're gonna get people just trying to remember "Range 1 gives another attack die" and "take an action after moving your ship." You DO NOT want to pile on with single-use elite talents, conditional modifiers, and so forth. Here's what I'd recommend:

First match, 2 Rookie X Wings w/ Guidance Chips and Proton Torps v. 2 Academy TIEs and 2 Obsidian TIEs. It doesn't get any more complicated than "Target Lock fires missiles," the game moves quickly, and you get the key lesson of how Pilot Skill matters also. No asteroids. An (almost) core box-only, straight-up Star Wars Classic Movie experience. It's basically how they taught at GenCon 2012 and it works. Might repeat first match for players who end it still forgetting to take pilot actions or roll defense dice after being attacked (I've seen this).

Second match, the same Rookies but add a Green A-Wing w/ A-Wing Test Pilot, Veteran Instincts, PtL, Chardaan Refit and a Blue B-Wing w/ Ion Cannon, Proton Torpedoes, Guidance Chips. Imperials are the same TIEs but with a Saber Squad Interceptor w/ PtL and a Storm Squadron TIE Advanced w/ Proton Rockets, Guidance Chips. This match builds on the familiar foundation by taking them to a full 100-pt game and shows what real aces can do in the easiest-to-grasp way, as the players should easily be in the rhythm of taking actions and this will just be "your ace is so good he takes two" and also really illustrates the stress mechanic. Also Boosts, which are "barrel rolls but forward." We ease in the Ion rules here and they keep with the theme of maneuver and really emphasizing the stress mechanic. Also, this time the Imperials have a taste of ordnance, and the Rebels have a taste of getting the best pilot on the field. This looks like a lot compared to first match but except for Ions it's really just twice as much of the same, so this is also probably a safe and good time to introduce asteroids (theme of maneuver).

Third match throws the theme of careful maneuver out the window as the blissful innocence of all X-Wing players must end someday. Only one X-Wing and one Academy/Obsidian pair now. Rebels also fly Han Solo w/ Determination, Millennium Falcon (SLoop) and a Gold Y-Wing w/ Bomb Loadout, Extra Munitions, Seismic Charges, Ion Cannon Turret. Imperials also fly Boba Fett w/ Slave I, Extra Munitions, Seismic Charges, Navigator, Predator, and a Gamma Bomber w/ Concussion Missiles, Extra Munitions, Seismic Charges, Guidance Chips. This match is all out-of-arc damage with turrets, auxiliary arcs, and bombs. It also rounds out the concept of aces with two top-skill familiar faces from classic Star Wars whose quirky ability sets somewhat mirror each other (Fett has better sudden positional adjustment, Han has better die rerolls). Players learn a couple more rules quirks like how Large ships are tough to ionize and now they've seen the models for every ship from the classic trilogy.

The first two matches it's important that sides have an even number of ships so you can teach X-Wing as a 2v2 experience. It works great! Third match is uglier but one Rebel can take the Falcon and the other Rebel the fighters. One Imperial obviously gets the Slave I and whether he also takes the Academy Pilot depends on whether the players want ship count balance or "point balance" more.

That's my small essay on teaching X-Wing. I've done this only three or four times but I find it a great way to teach X-Wing that will never overwhelm an inductee with "well, actually"-s. By the end they know basically all the fundamentals and have seen all the classic ships fly and may be ready to build a list of their own.

I used that Hera Navigator list at a couple weekly events a couple weeks back. It's a lot of fun, but random lists with high PS or stress dealers like Braylen made it so much less fun. It's hard to keep Asohka with Hera at times, but when it all lines up, it's a really fun troll-y sort of list.
