I don't understand why any French politician would show how close they are to Trump, I thought the French hate all things Anglo-Saxon. If we pray very hard, maybe Schulz can form a government without CDU involvement, ending Schäuble's reign of terror.

For the current FN electorate, Trump's perceived ability to effect political change has probably more weight that their anglophobia. The FN hasn't really been campaigning on anti-atlanticism for a few years now anyway.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/mar/16/school-shooting-in-french-town-of-grasse-sparks-terror-alert Suspect arrested after school shooting in French town of Grasse Another on the run, 8 wounded. Carpentras's cemetery vandalized in 1990. Moral panic "it's obviously role-players who did this during a satanical orgy, as the D&D books tell them to do!" Turns out actually it was a band of skinheads (it was, of course, the city's Jewish cemetery that had been vandalized), but for some reason the cathos and other reacs preferred to blame nerds rather than neo-nazis. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affaire_de_la_profanation_du_cimeti%C3%A8re_juif_de_Carpentras

Anime wasn't a thing when Ségolène Royal was a child. Hell, with the family she had, I'd be surprised if they had access to Salut Les Copains on the radio.

That was precisely what she was railing against. We imported a shitload of it cheaply (and dubbed it even cheaper); it was synonymous with very low-quality children's entertainment for a while here.
