I've been puttering around with those missions for a day or two, and with 100% Federation faction, 0 Rank (I should fix that) and lovely Exploration rank (Mostly Aimless) most of mine average in the 100-200k/ea range.

I guess I haven't played this game in 13 weeks, or something. OH WELL. Found a system called LHS 2921 which says I need a permit, but as far as I can tell, there's nothing or no one that can give me said permit, is that correct? What's the trick to going there?

I'm still getting the occasional mission paying 800k->1.1M, which is good for me, it's just that all of the 500k ones are harder to find and I'm getting a lot of "help the famine"/"civil unrest" style missions to ignore. Like you say, it must be a combination of system state/faction states and such. Interesting that you are getting on average 300k more for your missions. I am [Competent, Entrepreneur, Pathfinder], so maybe your game ranking is boosting the mission payouts a bit.

From what I've read destroying another ship near a station by bumping into it with your much larger ship counts the same as literally engaging your firepoints and opening fire on them ie you get a murder charge Looks like there's some griefing potential by getting a free Sidewinder and killing yourself near a station by flying into someone elses giant ship, causing the station to blow them up for "killing" you

I'm pretty sure you don't get murdered if you're not speeding. I've had a few people (frogs included) try to get me killed that way but if there's players on my radar I don't speed in the no fire zone. The funny thing is that you can still hit and kill them but as long as you're not speeding nobody seems to care. I also wish this were true in real life.

It flies a lot better, works great with NPC pilots and still kind of sucks to fly as a person because it's all about that forward thrust and I'm all about that lateral thrust. So I'm heading back to the bubble to spend my filthy Quince cash on upgrading my Anaconda. I'm going to get the 8A power plant to give me plenty of headroom trying out different weapons but can't decide whether to keep these 7D thrusters or upgrade to 7A. The 7A's are an extra 48 tons and I'm currently getting a nice jump range of 33ly. Is it worth it? e: ^ I wish I'd bought the wireframe AspX when it was available at Christmas. Looks great man.

The extra 48 tons of A rated thruster have made absolutely no difference to my G5 FSD Anaconda's jump range  In fact, it seems to have even increased range by 0.5ly but that might be down to the (same weight) power plant upgrade. Time to go and see Felicity. I think I'm gonna try dirty tuning this time. I previously had G3 clean tuning on the D rated thrusters and a brand new pair of A rated feels slightly more powerful than those. I get about 20 extra boost. edit: Actually, I remember reading that clean drives were better for taking thermal damage during combat, so I'm gonna go clean. If you're doing combat go dirty. Also got a fully kitted Beluga above 35Ly jump range in beta with minimal engineer rerolls. Looks like I got my exploration ship

Got a pretty good roll for dirty grade 3: the only real downside is thermal load increased by 33.4%, but that always gets spanked with dirty tuning. I can just chase my own vapour trail if I stick it in a loop and it turns beautifully. 330 boost! Woohoo! Would the improved DBX not beat the Beluga for exploration?
