i mean yeah he is a dumb liar, but maybe they shoudnt use loving frostbite engine. its not a rpg/talking engine, its a loving battlefield/Bay explosions engine. the optimist in me wants to beleieve they are probably pushing the engine as far as it in that area and thats why all the faces animations look like meh.

What does this mean?

An engine isn't inherently good at RPG cutscenes. For triple A games whatever engine they used is heavily modified to suit their needs by the engineers working on the game. When people say it's the wrong engine for the job they mean poo poo like Star Citizen which is trying to use an engine designed for relatively small playable areas and expand it to planet size terrain. I seriously doubt there's some inherent design flaw that makes facial animation impossible. The reason the animations look hosed up is they did a botch job of it.

Here's a cutscene from BF3 that isn't loving horrible:

Realtalk: I've played through the single player, and this is a deeply flawed game. The character creator is worse than in Inquisition (but has decent lighting, instead of dumb green Fade bullshit), the animations are worse than in Inquisition, the voice work is worse than Inquisition.

But I still enjoyed playing it. I usually read the subtitles and skip the dialogue once I'm through with reading, so bad facial animations don't bother me. It's sad that nobody sounds as memorable and cool as Cassandra or Varric. I would even take Leliana's faux French accent. But I can live with that.

I feel they could have done more with the story, considering we are exploring a brand new galaxy. But I'm still intrigued enough. What's up with the Remnant, what's the connection between the Scourge and the Remnant, why are the Kett so interested in the Remnant? What happened to the Arks, how will the Initiative grow in Andromeda? I'm looking forward to experience that development in-game.

I think Vetra is cool so far, the other squadmates haven't impressed me too much. But I wasn't really that interested in Solas in the first hour of Inquisition, perhaps Liam or Cora will show hidden depths further in the game.

Combat is fun.

I understand everybody who doesn't like the game. It's no RPG masterwork like Planescape: Torment or Mask of the Betrayer, it doesn't even do interesting things with the established lore like KotoR2 did with the Force. But it scratches a certain itch, and I'm really enjoying playing the game. I will buy it.

It amazes me how many times actual french or french-canadian actresses get called out for their 'fake' accents lmao. Seriously, is this some kind of goon defense mechanism from having it affect your pants too much or wtf?

Also, if the gameplay does actually come through I might still get this game...but yea, deffo after a few reviews of it get posted or some word of mouth reaches me. And also perhaps not for 60$, unless it turns into a massive time-sink for most.

Now that I'm older I don't exactly like her character, but I appreciate her existence. It's honestly pretty refreshing in such a starry eyed, positive space opera setting to have a character like her and her concerns about aliens/light xenophobia feel pretty realistic even though I wouldn't agree with them at all.

Yeah it doesn't get any better. Honestly, I am surprised they got this much done in what amounted to a 25 month dev cycle after the 2nd stop in 2014.

If you look at Horizon, Guerilla used every single ounce of that time in a fluid design philosophy. That is what a game that uses all 6 (5.9) years looks like.

ME:A is what 2 stop starts and a 23 month dev cycle and an insane creative director looks like. :(
