Utnayan posted:You never bought a 3DS or Vita? (I can understand not having a Vita, I bought one and regret it) but these games are perfect on 3DS and have been out for a while (Save Stardew Valley) I have both a 3DS and a Vita. Isaac is bad on both of them. On the 3DS it breaks and is all slow. And on the Vita Nicalis are incompetent mooks who won't port the patches or expansions across. Plus, while the Vita is amazing to use and genuinely a better bit of tech than the 3DS, it didn't have nearly the same level of support. I feel like the switch is a merging of the 3DS and Vita.

You can get higher resolution screens but that would be pretty pointless considering the power and battery life limits of the platform, but by every other metric (contrast levels, color accuracy, lack of ghosting) the screen is top of it's class. This is right. Its not using the screen to its 1080p potential out the gate due to realities of the battery and graphics card. So there's little point to a 4k screen on the thing. Zelda has some weird washout and I'm not sure its not a twist on the fog of days gone by to mess with draw diatance. But. Fast rmx and other games are vibrant and crisp. Its a good screen for what the hardware is rocking.

Policenaut posted:Consoles don't do price cuts so soon unless they're drastically failing like the Xbox One did, so unless Switch catastrophically tanks somehow then I'd expect to see more stuff along the lines of PS4's added value bundles. So you'd have a Switch at the same retail value as it did at launch but I dunno you get a copy of Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey with it. The argument I am making is that Nintendo announced a double down on their switch production. So with an oversupply, with a drought of content as the system picks up speed and lack of most all services on the device for the next 5-6 months, they will be over supplied and the price will drop automatically. Simple economics. Unless the counter argument is that somehow Nintendo is going to sell all of these units due to Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart. And that's assanine.

I've had the same problem with every controller barring the SNES, my hands just aren't comfortable rating on the shoulder buttons. I keep my fingers behind the switch or pro controller or dual shock except for my index fingers which are usually on the triggers. If I need to use the R and L buttons I just move my fingers up. Thankfully in the games I'm playing so far those buttons aren't used too often, and are toggles usually.

2 weeks later and I still really like my Switch. Haven't finished BotW yet and every time I feel like I need a change of pace I've had Treasure Trove and Blaster Master 0 to enjoy. Blaster Master 0 is really good and fun. The weapon upgrade system for the top down sections makes me try to play carefully instead of just damage boosting through everything, and the different weapons feel worth trying so even if I do lose a good weapon it's easy to pick one of the lower level ones for whatever situation.

But doubling their production runs based off initial launch with a good amount (Unknown amount but still a solid amount) going to scalpers with a limited launch line up for the next 9 months, an alpha online service, np apps, and no VC, is setting them up for the same debacle that happened with the Wii U, and the original 3DS. Oversupply will force a drop in pricing as they overestimate demand. (They do this continually) I don't disagree with you on any of these points other than a price drop happening anytime soon. Doubling production based off a launch doesn't seem like a good idea.

That's assuming they are not cool with just storing them and shipping to vendors as necessary. They may have increased their order due to savings opportunity at whichever production facilities arising for whatever reason and be in a position where overproducing, storing, and shipping later is cheaper than producing and shipping at a slower rate. This drought of content is a drought of content you personally are interested in, your particular tastes don't necessarily reflect those of the market(and Nintendo's market is not the same audience as your typical game market). For a large swath of people this is the first gaming machine Nintendo has produced since 2006.

That is not even mentioning fantastic shows on Netflix such as Stranger Things, House of Cards, Orange is the new Black, and new Netflix Original Movies. And what about the increasing numbers of throwaway or mediocre to bad shows that fill space previously occupied by desirable films and shows no longer on the App? And what of the fact that you can binge the better shows in a month and then cancel your app? AMC had three quality programs at one point and wasn't essential. HBO isn't essential and it has even more. Amazon isn't essential and their collection is much larger and it has its own programs too. Netflix is just becoming a higher quality than average cable television network. Shammypants fucked around with this message at 16:37 on Mar 17, 2017 |

Meridian posted:Horizon turned out to be cool? I haven't followed it at all. Yeah it was absolutely fantastic. Story, dialogue, character development was top notch, which actually surprised me I didn't think I was going to get that involved with the story. The world building was just as fantastic, with a great mystery behind "What happened to earth...." and without spoiling it, there are these areas called Vantages where you get to see glimpses of where you are in relation to what the Earth "Used" to be. The first one I went to I was thinking... "Holy poo poo.... I am in ___________!!!!" The combat and action/fighting with the machines and the variables of ways to take them down is a blast and all the different ways to plan for those fights. Sorry don't want to inject more of this since it's a Nintendo Switch thread, but if you have a PS4 definitely check it out. Zelda is just as amazingly fun though obviously.

It is dumb to discuss Moriarity bad opinions, but work is slow today so gently caress it. He is correct in that certain Nintendo games do "get a pass", with the evidence of Skyward Sword and to a lesser extent Twilight Princess being a good exhibit A and B. Problem is, in typical blowhard fashion, he kills his case when he decries that BOTW is extremely overrated after spending a few minutes in the tutorial and then doubling down by going further and alluding to Splatoon being trash is nuts. Had Splatoon been a PS4 game it would've been insanely big. It was still big on Wii U, which is saying something. Even when the guy is making a point that has some validity, he has to go and be stupid about it. Also, it's not like Nintendo is the only developer where these things happen. Looking at you Bioshock Infinite (just off the top of my head). Off-topic- I want Rocket League for Switch so bad.

I called my local GameStop recently and the guy said that there were people that show up everyday to see if a switch came in their daily shipment. To suggest there is no demand and it's just scalper derived sales is insane. People want this and they will want it more when Xbox and PlayStation bore everyone at E3 and even more still once Mario etc comes out.
