With the addition of Wumo, I've been thinking about which comics posted here I hate the most. Wumo has always sucked, so no harm, no foul. Luann is tedious, but it was never a great comic - it went from gag-a-day crappiness to overwrought emotional crappiness. Peanuts definitely declined during its run, but after its creator died, so did the comic (too rare). Even oldies like Blondie have declined, but, eh. Family Circus was never an amazing comic. Intelligent Life is lame, but it has always filled that niche, so it gets a pass. Garfield was never great. Some are lame and get better - look at Wizard of Id. So all my ire is reserved for modern Nancy. Here's a strip that started with a strong female character (for newcomers, it started as Fritzi Ritz), a free flapper woman, a proto-Mopsy, and even after it morphed into Nancy, it was "off" and odd and, thank God, FUNNY. Gilchrist ruined this. It's now one of so many disposable lame gag-a-day strips or (worse) nostalgic tripe. (I'm not sure about the strips from 83 to 95, post Bushmiller, pre Gilchrist(s)) Humor has adapted a bit since the 1920's, but it hasn't changed that much. Modern Nancy is a vile strip. Much as Phil Fumble transformed from a doughy nerd to some holier-than-thou stud, Nancy the comic strip has transformed from something entertaining to a poo poo swipe on the overcrowded funny pages. I used to post Fritzi Ritz. I'm tempted to bring it back with any that I can find, repeats or not. I'll shut up now. tl:dr: gently caress you Gilchrist. Dream of the Rarebit Fiend (click for huge) And He Did. (April, 1916) Outbursts of Everett True (July, 1916) Doings of the Duffs. (June, 1918, click for big) The Gay Thirties (June, 1935, click for big)) They'll Do It Every Time (June, 1940, click for big) Mopsy (November, 1940) Tweedy (January, 1956, click for big) Archie (November, 1955, click for big) Jaf (1970) Feiffer (1971, click for big) Andy Capp (March, 1971, click for big) Wee Pals (May, 1971, click for big) Pyton Richard's Poor Almanac (click for big) Dick Tracy (February, 2006, click for big)

My Lovely Horse posted:I am in utter disbelief that I ever liked Garfield. Even as a kid. Yeah. I used to love Garfield and owned a ton of his books. Having revisited it via this thread, I cannot comprehend what it was that I found so humorous. I mean there's not even the baseline "huh huh, butts" level stuff that all kids tend to laugh at.

Since we missed the whole 2016 of Mandrake, I'm now going to do a Time Warp and jump back to last January with three strips/day. Some of them were already removed from Comics Kingdom but fortunately I managed to save them before that happened. Back then we were ready for Mandrake & Narda's third wedding.

Hm, we've all got ideas about which comic is the worst artistically, but which one's protagonists are the worst as people? Luann? The Phantom? Dustin? Dilbert? Rex Morgan? I guess Judge Parker has escaped our cold, pitiless judgment for now, and Pros and Cons doesn't count because it's intentional.
