The only reference I want is Marvin Berry calling a funeral home or something. Please, some cartoonist, find it in yourself to make a different and slightly less famous reference.

The Republicans are selling a health care plan with no mandates that you buy it. And they won’t turn you down if you have a pre-existing condition. So why would you pay for health care before you need it?

Here’s Dr. Krauthammer on that:

It’s not just Donald Trump who ran on retaining this new, yes, entitlement. Everyone did. But it’s very problematic. If people know that they can sign up for insurance after they get sick, the very idea of insurance is undermined. People won’t sign up when healthy and the insurance companies will go broke.

Middlebury College students, and some of their professors, didn’t want to hear what author Charles Murphy had to say. So they turned their backs on him and chanted slogans during his lecture. Then, as he was forced out of the lecture hall, protesters assaulted him and his group. A Middlebury professor accompanying Dr. Murphy was injured.

Tuition, room and board, and fees at Middlebury College amount to $65,000 a year.

To save you the research, Charlie Murphy is the dude from Chappelle's Show. Charles Murray, invited to speak, is the co-author of The Bell Curve.

Bok is a cretin, but this honestly seems like a new low for him. I won't hold myself to that, however, seeing how there's no such thing as a 'bottom' for these people.

In doing my research, I found a great quote on Wikipedia that really sums up how I feel about that book.

quote:

Columnist Bob Herbert, writing for The New York Times, described the book as "a scabrous piece of racial pornography masquerading as serious scholarship." "Mr. Murray can protest all he wants," wrote Herbert; "his book is just a genteel way of calling somebody a friend of the family."[33]
I am really glad that got published in NYT.

It's a proud cultural tradition and I'll be damned if I let the conservative fuckheads steal that one too.

Just an FYI for those who don't know: Purim is a costume holiday about silliness and clowns. It celebrates a king finding out his genocidal adviser actually wants to kill all the jews, and unbeknownst to him that in includes the king's wife! It's a comedy of errors as the jews are then given permission to kill anyone who tries to kill them. YAY!

Trumpcare still has a penalty if you don't get insurance. I believe insurance companies can hike your premiums by like 30% for a year if you didn't have insurance the previous year.

Of course, lol at the right-wing who got into a screaming fit over the the mandate now realizing "oh there was a reason for that."

Also their penalty almost ensures that 1) Healthy people will never buy insurance because of the penalty and 2) sick people will wait until they're very sick, which means their cost of care is higher. So these two work together to ensure that we enter a death spiral at ludicrous speed.

Not even the past year; go without insurance for two months and you get the 30% premium increase for a year.

Hate propaganda never works any other way, I think. You have to portray the enemy as being both weak and stupid but also strong and crafty so they seem like a threat.
