Seriously, he was the hot hire last year after turning Stephen F Austin into a powerhouse (and they immediately declined after he left, even if a lot of that is losing a big senior class). And then he turned OSU's season after it looked like it would be a year lost to transition. A bit surprised he'd jump that soon, but he's as likely to succeed as anyone without direct Chicago connections.

Underwood is an extremely good coach. The only question is whether he can recruit. I'm a little suspicious when a highly-regarded assistant gets passed over for head coaching jobs until they're middle aged

With so few great finishes tonight, I've been watching old ones on Youtube. Al McGuire's call of James Forrest's prayer for Georgia Tech in 1992 is great. Iowa State blowing a game to 15th seed Hampton in 2001. Valparaiso misses miracle shot, bailed out anyway because Ole Miss can't make free throws. Because I like watching Duke lose to Lehigh.

Pretty young still, lots of connections in the region and beyond, has a reputation as an elite recruiter. Think it's a pretty good hire, all told. Definitely beats the hell out of the last couple searches. He's going to be Extremely Good. Look at how good his teams have been after inheriting a program that was one of the worst in the country, and how well he has done in limited action against ACC teams with far superior talent. Add in the ability to recruit 5 star players, bigs that aren't 6'4", etc..... I also thought NC State was going to be good this year too though, so feel free to ignore everything I say

It's kinda hard to know what to think of him because he's only ever been an assistant at Syracuse, other than stepping in as interim while Boeheim was suspended. He played at Syracuse and was there forever, I'm really surprised he left after being officially named the coach in waiting. I can't loving stand watching Syracuse so have fun with that.

No gently caress that, every Big Ten team should lose every game. Seeding is small sample size bullshit, although the fuckery with MSU, Minnesota, Wisconsin being improperly seeded has been debated ad nauseam. Conference strength still is determined by the mean and not the top of the conference though!
