That was actually the most fun I had in the demo. The whole thing was a scramble for good positioning, and really utilized the vertical element of combat in this game pretty well.

"Those grungy hacks changed the color of the armor!" Like what even is this point

They literally inverted the colors and flipped the N7 badge upside down. It's incredibly lazy and speaks to trying to make something as distinct as possible as quickly as possible while basically being what came before. There's no confidence in their own idea.

The differences should have been, well, bigger. We've seen blue and white before - it's the colors of the Systems Alliance, worn by Ashley and Kaidan in ME3. Perhaps the Andromeda Initiative could have gone with a scheme utilizing green? After all, it might help tie the multi-species cooperative effort to the whole Synthesis idea. That's just off the top of my head.

But a palette inversion is just lazy.

Slim Killington posted:

I think that's more meant to illustrate doing the bare minimum. Not "how dare they change it" but more "wow you changed the armor color, everything's so different now", hence the doing the bare minimum comment. I could be wrong, that's how I took it.

Yeah the fiend fight was great. I was running Mattock Vanguard, so it become a game of zipping around on the rooftops with charge/jetpack and raining fire down on the poor ground-pounder. At one point the fiend had me in a corner then kett reinforcements showed up, and I managed to jump over the big guy's and charge halfway across the outpost.

More poo poo like that please.

they're all pretty much fine and way better than playing on a console tbh. people ragged on ME1 but the UI is mostly better than on 360 (though it's still shite). get the texture overhaul for ME1 if you can though because garrus' face being a blurred ps2-level oddity persisted through the entire run of patches for some reason

raycievik's retrospective vid on me3 throws up an interesting point that i found hard to articulate other than 'i really like this combat holy poo poo' - the faster pace (with the changes to power recharging and enemies that drive you out of cover) and lack of enemies posted across chasms means that combined with the more precise aiming and hotkeys on pc the combat just flies and is just an awesome mess of particle effects, even if i feel the ui/controls as a whole probably works slightly better with a controller

So basically, ME3's combat is supposed to flow like a hot knife through butter and feel good? Sweet.

Ainsley McTree posted:

Hit the lockout portion of the paid demo. Not a great game but I've played worse and combat is fun. I don't have high hopes for the story as the writing and dialogue seem poor and at least in the demo you can't make any real choices. But that was a disappointment in ME3 as well where all your big choices got reduced into a report card.

The Witcher 3 is almost certainly the best RPG in over a decade, and sets a bar that MEA isn't realistically in any hope of reaching.

ME:A is not great but at least people are honest about it. The Witcher series is ridiculously overhyped. They're not awful, but their writing is banal and packed with cliches. I really don't understand why goons think "guy with muscles grumbles vaguely threatening things for twelve hours" is good writing.

The Witcher is fun because you get to run around hitting poo poo with your sword and being the bastard child of Sly Stallone and an anime schoolgirl. It's good entertainment, but don't pretend it's Flannery O'Connor.

Witcher 3 wasn't really good because of good animation but due to world building especially having some of the best sidequests in the open world genre.
They are kinda exemplary because they even make "go fetch x and kill thing" actually intermingle with someone's life and let toy with the outcome in some way.

I think it was far from perfect and I'll admit that much.

If it helps i'm not a goon hivemind because i think bloodborne was not nearly as good as everyone says.

I also think this game can be good and still do somethings better and worse than witcher 3 simultaneously.

Actually...no, we haven't seen the Andromeda Initiative schema of overall white with light blue highlights before. I mean, we have, but not in this context.

Ashley and Kaidan's armor in ME3 was dark navy blue, almost indigo. Any lighter highlights are minimal and understated. It matches the Systems Alliance identity of sci-fi military personnel; Shepard's own uniforms in ME3 were comparable. The impression it gives is "We're serious military people doing serious military things. Things are pretty serious, eh?" which fits with ME3's overall tone.

The Andromeda Initiative's primary color base is white with paler blue trims. It gives the impression of being less militaristic, less solemn. The impression instead is that of scientists, doctors, or astronauts (think: Liara). Cerberus went with a comparable design, except Cerberus also had heavy black portions on their outfits to make sure we knew they were just a little bit hardcore or whatever.

You say they literally inverted the colors, and that's technically true. The problem is that this isn't a problem!..not when the inverted colors give a completely different design impression that fits with the completely different impression that the Andromeda Initiative should have.
