I went out to my workshop after what seemed like four months of rain to find the bag for my nice Bosch circ saw filled to the brim with water via a leak in my workshop's roof, and my circ saw inside it. Left it out to dry for about a week. Works perfectly, didn't kill me.

Store it in a bag of rice. It will atract asian workers who are hungry and will fix it for the rice. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

It's that fine German experience of engineering U-boats coming to the fore. I mean, we caught and sank one with a wooden fishing boat, but still.

I'd still take it apart and spray some contact cleaner on the connections and stuff to clean it up. Otherwise corrosion will start building up and it'll stop working right when you need it.

Oh poo poo I have a drawer full of receipts. Not sure if they're still readable or not after a few years though. I only keep them because I've gotten crap for trying to return an item with a life time warranty without proof I bought it.

Trying to figure out the credit card statement requirements for submission, cause I've bought some big ticket chinesium in the past. I guess i haven't been paying attention to my statements and found 6 months of fraudulent charges to the WWE network. Cool :-/

My engine hoist was 2 days too early, and my 44" roller chest a month too late. There's still a whole lot of purchases in that date range, but I doubt I have receipts for most of it. 12% of what's left is nothing to laugh at, though. I should go through my garage folder and see what I do have receipts for.

I might have overdone it. I went to my credit card site and opened every statement from the last 6 years in a new tab then ctrl-F'd for "harbor freight," added them up, then uploaded like 20 pdfs of statements. I totaled up like $3k of charges, so it'll be cool if it works.

Ha, I stopped saving my HF receipts as they become unreadable so quickly and I don't want to store them in a freezer. Gonna have to dig through my credit card statements, good thing I never pay in cash at least.

I dunno, I feel like I shouldn't take it seeing as I noticed their nonsense and didn't get taken in by it. (Still bought the tools, just laughed at their "compare at" prices because comparing an HF flashlight on sale to a good brand regular price is a loving joke) I could get like $120 for just poo poo I bought last year. Probably 3-500 if I bothered to have my bank send me old statements to dig through manually.

Sounds worth it to me, what would that end up being hourly, like $100/hr?

This isn't even a moral dilemma, that money is already set aside for you.

So far its been able to break free subframe nuts that haven't been touched since my car was assembled in 2002 and has lived 13 of its 15 years in the rust belt and lower rear shock bolts that were installed and have been untouched since 2006. Only fastener I haven't been able to remove was a rusted rear engine mount bolt - the points got turned off of the head of the bolt while the impact hammered on it. My only complaint so far is its a bit unwieldy and heavy, but that's likely to apply with any lithium ion impact that hits for ~700 ft-lbs.

God drat tool shop "Garage sales" Bottom box was $300, RRP $499 cos they had 4 left and were an old model. Top box was $259 RRP $330 on sale during the clearout. Its nice to have tools not in piles any more.

I bought a DeWalt DCF899 from Amazon a few months back, and when I received it the drat battery and charger were buggered. It wouldn't charge unless I pushed up on the battery and held it at this awkward angle, so I returned it the next day. Never ended up getting a new unit because I managed to fudge things with a lovely breaker bar and a sacrificial Harbor Freight 1/2" ratchet. Of course now you knobs post these awesome videos and I'm mad I didn't get another one.

That looks like a pretty nice box! I've never heard of Sidchrome... Is that an Australian brand or something? Some other goon posting in the last couple of months had a really great name for his hammer and pyro drawer, wish I could remember what that was...

Its under the stanley omnicorporation now, but for decades was one of the high end tool manufacturers in Australia that was founded in 1931. Used to be if you busted one, they'd replace it no questions asked, even through outright abuse and no matter how old but that went out the window when they were bought out.

What's the deal with automotive-oriented toolboxes being so expensive? I keep seeing big Matcos or whatever on Craigslist, and I feel like for $8000 I could buy a lot of Vidmars that I have seen take a real beating.

I've never owned or used an air hose reel but I want to buy a longer air hose for my pancake compressor and am considering a hose reel to keep the excess line from laying around the shop. Just looking for any advice really. Worth it for a small shop? Manual vs auto? Just get a hook and wrap it around manually?

I have a small snap on box that probably weighs as much as two large harbor freight boxes. There is a lot of steel in them, paint quality is great, parts are always available, drawer rollers are the smoothest I have ever used, it's a great box overall. I have broken a couple of the lock and roll drawer locks. Keep in mind that if you buy one of those boxes second hand that there could very well be a lien on it. In most states snap on can repossess a box just like they would a car. So even if you paid someone off Craigslist for it, snap on could and will still take it from you. It's best to check with your local snap on dealer before you pay.

Agreed, they are worth their weight in gold. I don't know any specific brands but I do know that lovely Korean/Chinese ones are maddening and shouldn't turn you off good ones. We always put them up high on the wall or on like a column or pillar or something. edit: lol at a lien on a toolbox. I am definitely not going to buy an $8000 toolbox to work on my $400 car, so no worries there.
