I'm not at the moment, but I'd like to get back into PC gaming again. Video card definitely seems to be the bottleneck when I look at CPU and GPU temps when gaming; the video card is :supaburn: with the fan screaming, and the CPU is in the low 50s (both degrees and utilization).

The nice thing about lower end graphics cards is that they've come a long way in the last couple of years. They are a lot more efficient than they used to be and much more powerful. Intel's onboard video these days isn't too bad.

You may want to look into upgrading your CPU at some point too. The 2500k is a good processor for most things but when it comes to gaming it's starting to show its age.

It's unbelievable how relevant the 2500k still is, but the 4 thread limit is being hit.

Mine has been running at 4.8ghz for nearly 6 years now. My laptop with a 2ghz C2Q is turning 8 years old this year and still rocks all kinds of stuff.

Back in my day, a 3 year old computer was complete trash.

Driving between LA and SF and around there, I didn't see a single toll, but didn't know what to look for.

Like, the rental comes with EZPass or whatever it's called and you just get charged by Dollar for any tolls? And it's a system you can opt into/out of but if you opt out and drive through a toll without paying they charge you 5 times as much or something?

All of my relevant driving is to/from Bay Area (I live in Reno and sis lives in Berkeley)(and it's not in a rental) but unless it's significantly different elsewhere, you're never going to unwittingly drove through a toll. Not everyone has EZPass and they still want their money so there will be cash lanes. And they are cash lanes, don't bother trying to hand them a credit card.

The one time I forgot to make sure I had a five on me it turned into $25 since it's not like they have the option of making you turn around and go the other way (sent me a nice photo of my license plate). And then the $25 turned into $75 when I forgot about it for a few months.

I'm not really needing to upgrade the rest of the PC- it's a 2600K that runs happily at 4.2ghz with a corsair HN80 water cooler on it. Bout the only thing I could really upgrade would be swapping the 16gb of 1600mhz ram out for 32gb of 2133 and getting another 512gb ssd and run them in raid for a primary drive.

The Evga 770 GTX superclocked 4gb GPU still holds it own but BF1 constantly bitches about frame rates.

I have a GTX970/i5 6600k and for the first month or so BF1 bitched about frames constantly. It took a few driver updates and some tweaking to get it smooth; what helped a lot was editing some (iirc) .ini/config file to limit frames to ~60, and then increasing that number by 10 or so until it started getting bitchy again. Something about the CPU and GPU trying to render max frames all the time and struggling to do so. I've kind of already forgotten the reading I did, but I recall the number of CPU cores active/percentage being used had as big an effect as the GPU.

Wait, isn't setting your poo poo on "ultra-high" or the equivalent thereof, actually easier on your GPU because it's forcing your CPU to work more than medium-leveled settings would? How do so many developers release such poorly optimized pieces of garbage as finished products? It's worth it to spend another 2-3 weeks working on optimization, so that your game is realistically playable. I would've never bought Bloodborne, or its DLC, if they didn't fix the awful, awful load times. Even though Bloodborne is my favorite FromSoft game after Armored Core 1, which will always be the best for obvious reasons.

I went to 5 different parts stores (2 different Autozones, a PepBoys, and an O'Reilly's. A second O'Reilly's finally got me the part an hour and a half after I started looking for a bolt that I knew every place should have had...) before I could find an oxygen sensor bung.
