Carlton 17. Brisbane 18. GCS The asterixed clubs are ones that I feel have an exceedingly high degree of uncertainty coming into 2017. Bombers for obvious reasons, Hawthorn for turning over the bulk of their midfield, Freo for getting lurch and arguably the best player in the competition back. I might have overrated Geelong and West Coast and underrated Melbourne as well.

I'd be disappointed if Essendon finish in the bottom 3 as most people are suggesting given there's a bunch of players back and they don't have the mental strain of the drugs scandal hanging over them any more

Essendon might get out to a fast start and win 4 of its first 10 to get people talking about finals, but then I think they struggle to win more than 1 game in the back half of the season due to not being able to run out games. Mixture of youth and a lack of match fitness from the returning senior players.

So as well as going into the season one player short on the main list, and one short on the rookie list, we have Cam Ellis-Yolmen out for the season and on the LTI, and according to some yob who claims to have seen the X rays, because who cares about medical confidentiality, we've lost a new draftee for the season to stress fractures in the foot as well. Actually this argument holds some sway with me. They'll struggle at the start of the season due to not working as a team, getting it together just in time to struggle at the end of the season by tiring out due to a lack of match fitness.
