I just finished the Eos dungeon and am doing the whole talking bit - just talked to the forthcoming trans girl. Anyway, if the game keeps up like this I will enjoy it and am liking most of it so far. I might even be tempted to say that it is a GOOD GAME. The people look pretty bad even on ultra and I really, really hope they add quality of life improvements like making the scanning dead time skippable though.

Edit: I am playing infiltrator and wishing there were more cool things to do as one.

Edit again. I found a cool bug. I was exploring through a level 3 zone on Eos to get to a dad memory and just before the rover was about to explode I got out and grabbed the memory. It auto saved and I thought I was hosed. I got back in, it exploded and I reloaded and the radiation was down to level 1 even though it still had the quest text to get back to a safe area so I could go explore the previously level 3 radiation area with no repercussions.

Yeah in ME1 all the classes were Warrior Mage Thief and combos of each, in ME2 they really went to differentiate them, and Vanguard became the best class. In ME1 soldier is golden because you can be literally invulnerable 100% of time with the right skills.

You only swap on deployment to a planet or at a station on the planet. It's real dumb.

Near the part where the cockpit joins the ship with that stupid, needsome, door if you look to the left as you face the front of the ship you'll find the loadout area.

It's in the cockpit area, opposite PeeBee's (oh gently caress I hate that name) escape pod room.

I think the answer is to start going after characters after taking up PeeBee for no strings. That worked with Isabela at least, and this game cribs so much I wouldn't be surprised if it worked here too.

One thing this game has over the others - multiple bars of different flavors. So far I've found clean/slightly awkward, friendly/peaceful, adequate/grimy, and a straight up dive.

*edit - one character I see getting a bit of a fanbase is Reyes Vidal. Won't spoil his act but it'll be obvious when you run into him.

Just pistols and shotguns, but that's fine.

There's nothing really wrong with the class. You only notice how bad the ME1 Vanguard is when you play a later version that has Charge.

Its not that bad, shotguns are pretty good, and pistols can make up for the long range. You just have to focus on survivability.

Unless the version you're playing had significant balance changes from the one I played, Pistols are easily the best weapons in the game (because with the right mods you can literally just fire forever without them ever overheating), so don't worry TOO MUCH about it.

Pistols are secretly the best weapon and Vanguard in ME1 is basically an Adept with weaker powers but the ability to poo poo them out faster.

Do I really need to do them or will I eventually hit the cap in no time.

The cap is 60 regardless. You can grind all the quests and end up around level 59 tops, I think. Only way to get to sixty in one play through, possibly, is do all side quests and kill all thresher maws on foot since you get more XP. You don't need NG+ to unlock the highest level. But be satisfied with you first run as after level 45 or so it's easy peasey and you'll have maxed out gear by 55.

The more I have a chance to think about it, the more I am bummed that they felt the need to shoe horn a big bad evil doer plot on a story that absolutely didn't need it. There is plenty of story meat and interesting plot hooks just in the idea behind the colonization of the new cluster, with complicated relationships between the various races and personalities, as well as any new species you might encounter. Like holy poo poo, give me the version of this game written by and for grown ups where everything is shades of gray and you are making hard calls and trying to survive in a new galaxy. Obviously you need enemies to shoot, but there is basically no reason to have a big scary evil doer and a big dumb universe ending plot device. Maybe I'm just a bit rosy on the game having completed the first vault and gone back to the Nexus for the first time, but that game is definitely in here somewhere, it just needed the right people to make it. And that clearly was not this team.

They should have made Vetra Biotic (Turian Biotic would have been a more interesting concept than Asari Biotic and Human "everybody fears us" Biotic again). I'm playing a tech/sniper-build and have zero Biotics unless I switch over myself if I want to roll with the best characters, Drack and Vetra. Why are the Biotic choices annoying or boring?

Yeah, I think I kinda wanna pseudo-rush through ME1 due to how short it seems. Save NG+ for a different time that will never come if I like ME2/3 too god drat much.

Probably should do the DLC quest too, since that's in.

The DLC quest is pretty decent. Skipping the side missions is a pretty good idea if you aren't enjoying them.

Don't rush too much, there are some side missions that have fun callbacks in future games. The problem is the game won't tell you which ones, this is a list that seems comprehensive and it is fairly spoiler free (at least for future games): https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/930279-mass-effect/66376116. Yeah, but that had more to do with rogue scientists experimenting on people with eezo than people just being freaked out by biotics. There were all kinds of people that got hosed over by humanity's first efforts in developing biotics, which primarily consisted of "expose babies to this weird poo poo we found and hope some of them survive the ridiculously high cancer rates."

Yeah, and if Shepard hosed that up there was a broadcast in ME2 about how it made things worse for biotics. Other than that, though, ME2 and on pretty much moved past that whole thing, and even in ME1, the Alliance was always eager for more biotic recruits.

Makes sense. Military cares more about the "can kill good?" questions than the abstract "what am human" questions.
