I know I just keep posting videos about this band and that most of you don't give a flying ducky about metal(-ish) bands, but these guys really made one of the best albums last year. When I read what most of the album's lyrics were about (the fact that the singer dude was scared as hell of potentially losing his wife, unborn daughter or both, but eventually knowing that things were going to be A-OK when his daughter was born), it hit me real hard. So if you ever want to hear a guy sing, scream, shout, plead and cope with a personal and very real possibility of tragedy and how he got better, you can give this record a spin.

That is very cute. :)

I think their sound is great, but I'm not sure how I feel about the screaming.

They absolutely rule. Unfortunately, because of the screaming, most of my non-metal friends find them an acquired taste. :(

Sayaka remains best girl, and while I'm not as salty about what Madoka's ending does with her now that I've had a few minutes to think/read other perspectives on it, I will say I don't think the show executes on her final scene very well.

I get that Magical Girldom is still a death sentence in the post-wish world. I get why. And I get that Sayaka was still willing to do that for Kyousuke, being as selfless as she was. And I'm even coming around a bit on the show showing her (and only her) die in the line of duty even in the new timeline. But the pacing and order of operations was all wrong, IMO. It was really important for the viewer to understand why Sayaka died in the new timeline, and to understand that it wasn't in despair and self-loathing like it was in the old, and that REALLY wasn't initially apparent when I was watching just based on how the show ordered and framed her conversation with Madoka and her death. I get it now, sure, and I'm even coming around on it a bit, but any time a viewer completely misses one of the show's critical emotional beats until 10 minutes of fuming after the fact, it's pretty hard to call that beat an unqualified success. That it involved my favorite character was unfortunate, and really blunted my experience with an otherwise Top-Tier show.

Madoka's great, I'll have Words to write about it soon enough, I think. We'll probably do Rebellion same time next week.

Also, Madoka rankings:

1.)Sayaka
2.)Madoka
2b.)Kyoko
3.)Homura
5.)Mami

Well, this is kind of cheating because I've picked up a few things through osmosis, buuuuut with that said my guess is that the broad plot of the movie is Homura starts another good ol' Eternal Recurrance trying to 'free' Madoka from her fate as the inhuman embodiment of Hope. This is fundamentally another failure on Homura's part to respect Madoka's wishes and embrace the hope Madoka's sacrifice allows for, and ultimately turns Homura into something resembling a villain or perhaps even a Witch herself. At some point this results in a timeline where all the other main 4 girls are alive, but they eventually somehow realize what's going on and attempt to confront Homura somehow to stop her and allow things to be at peace.

Or something like that.

The only ova I remember takes place after the show.

There were two more bundled with manga volumes released last year, but I dunno if those are subbed.

I believe there's two OVAs, but both of them take place chronologically either right after the anime ends or maybe before the second-to-last episode. It shouldn't matter, either way.

I was actually really surprised how much Yona ended up drawing me in, despite not being much for shoujo. It reminded me a lot of Moribito but from Chagum's perspective, which was an engaging twist. I'm hoping for a second season.
