EBT restrictions are some terrible bullshit but even worse is the thing where regular poor people don't take advantage of benefits when they're clearly there. The lady who was my boss up until a couple months ago (I got a new job!) is eligible for full medicaid benefits for her kids but has some hosed up ideas about government assistance so her kids have no insurance. The youngest has appallingly bad ADHD and will probably be unable to succeed in school unless he gets some ritalin or whatever. Hell he's in danger of being kicked out of daycare because they aren't equipped to handle him.
