It's obviously Howe and possibly Jagr if he can go 2-3 more years. It's so much more impressive than tennis

Julio Franco is 58 years old and was playing baseball in Japan as recently as 2015, I think he is the clear answer. He last played in the majors at age 49 which is pretty incredible for a position player.

Ask me about Derek Carr's stolen MVP awards, those dastardly refs, and, oh yeah, having the absolute worst fucking gimmick in The Football Funhouse.

I wish they would change the rules so that players can wrap up again instead of being forced to try and knock people down using their shoulders.

I do. It's why I'm laughing. I grew up playing tennis. It's obviously a great sport but if we're talking "what sport is impressive to play at age 50" it's not tennis.

That would be like saying a kicker at 42 and a QB at 42 would be the same. Not even close.

Yeah I'm a sucker for boxing but I honestly believe what BHop was able to do in a sport where most people his age can't speak very well anymore is the most impressive old man sports thing. At least in modern history. He completely transformed himself as a fighter over the years too, if you go back and watch his first match with Roy Jones Jr he was actually the aggressor the entire time.

It's finally over now (even if he does fight again, it's over), but he had one hell of a run.

e: Big George Foreman deserves mention for hanging around forever too, although he did take 10 years off in the middle.

Jagr's super impressive too, especially since so much of his game is physically being stronger than other people. Like he just sticks that big rear end out and keeps guys 20 years younger than him off the puck.

Tennis has historically been a young man's game. It used to be you would come on at 16, peak at 20, fall apart at 25 and be retired by 30. It's... changed a bit recently.

A lot of non contact sports like swimming/sprinting/gymnastics are skewed a lot younger than things like baseball, basketball or hockey.

A lot of those are pure athleticism and individual, so it makes sense that it skews younger. Team sports also require a mental component that experience can bolster significantly. Its why a rookie QB isn't as good as a veteran QB despite being physically more gifted.

It's not a union, it's just an association. Also, Sean Payton isn't in it, or at least wasn't in it for a number of years due to the bountygate stuff.

Overly large hip and tail pads I'd assume.

Kinda like huge neck rolls being a thing in the 90s, but way less cool looking.

I think it's funny people accuse Moorer of taking a dive when if you watch the fight not only does George pretty clearly catch him right before the final KO punch (his hands just drop like a foot), after the KO you can clearly see Moorer's eyes are just glass at that point

I still maintain big George was a better boxer than Ali and it took a perfect storm of circumstance for him to lose that fight

Playing professional style tennis is absolutely impressive to play at 50. If you're talking about those older guys who just return everything like a backboard or something but never hit any winners or drop shots and just try to outlast you, sure

(those fuckers eat me alive since I'm more of a ground stroke and volley player and suck at drop shots so I can't really force them to move and they just lob it over me if I go to the net)
