I always thought it was weird that they cancelled the Note 6 (which didn't have the battery issues) and did the Note 7 instead.

They did it to realign the model numbers (Galaxy S7 was released the same year as Note 7)

Edit: whoosh

If I recall correctly it wasn't so much the size of the battery but the shape that caused issues in the Note 7. A manufacturing defect caused electrodes to come in contact with each other on one of the battery's curved edges, top right corner if I'm not mistaken.

Did a factory reset the other night. Now I seem to have the old Pixel launcher with the full search bar and no weather widget.

So I did 3 more resets and update rounds trying to fix it. No dice. Can't update or uninstall Pixel launcher to prod it into updating.

Any ideas? I just want my stupid weather widget and Google button.

Looks like this is a new Pixel launcher lol

There was an extensive investigation into the battery issue and wasn't it found that Samsung just didn't design enough clearance to allow the battery to expand as it charged? Literally trying to shave a few millimeters in thickness from the phone caused all of their troubles. As the battery expanded a bit it compressed the lithium cells until they would internally short out and catch fire, explode, etc. There's no way to fix it short of putting in a smaller battery or enlarging the case. No chips or circuitry were to blame.

Oh I know it was entirely on Samsung I'm just saying they have a hole to fill PR-wise and it would be hilarious if they took the opportunity to poo poo on Qualcomm by indirectly implying they had something to do with it by always including their chipset as part of the old hardware that got changed to fix the explosive phone syndrome. Officially it's the battery clearance all the way down. Marketing wise why not use the opportunity to tarnish Qualcomm's reputation a bit without ever saying the words "Fire-breathing Snapdragon"

Worst part was you couldn't move, delete or change the bar.

Don't know how much stock I put in "new launcher" vs "weird rear end bug". Sounds like they are seeing some screenshots and wildly guessing.

All I had to do was clear app data and it went back to normal.

The real fun of living wisely is that you get to be smug about it.

So now that the S8 info is out, what other flagships are on the horizon with a firm release window?

I'm up for a new phone on Verizon and at this point it looks like either grab a Pixel XL or preorder an S8, depending on how they're priced.

There is likely a Moto Z2 out sometime this summer. Since it has to maintain backwards compatibility with Moto Mods, you pretty much already know what it looks like (just with the new elongated fingerprint sensor that the G5+ has). The only real change will likely be iterating the SoC to SD835.

Officially and by third parties it was factories shipping defective batteries. Nothing to do with clearance.

Everything from their medical, pornographic, to their financial and infidelity.

Anything they have looked at, searched for, or visited on the Internet will now be available for everyone to comb through.

Help me raise money to buy the histories of those who took away your right to privacy for just thousands of dollars from telephone and ISPs. Your private data will be bought and sold to marketing companies, law enforcement.

Let's turn the tables. Let's buy THEIR history and make it available.

There is no evidence that this is legitimate at all. It's not like there's a public exchange of browser history that will suddenly be available for anyone to buy from. The data is going to be sold to marketing firms, etc. and they're going to tell this dude from Chattanooga to get lost. I have to give him credit for having a good idea to skim some money off current events though.

This is literally his current 'plan':

quote:

I know a lot of people have questions about how the money will be used. Others mention I am trying to scam you. I am not. Let me show you. I have had several people message me, ready to help. Thousands of people have donated to our cause. People are tired being taken advantage of and sold out by the people they elected to represent them.

I don't have all the answers to a lot of questions right now. But I'm working with people who are assisting me in developing a fully fledged plan. I do hope that if you are skeptical, you'll stay with me and watch.

We will do something. Someone has to start somewhere. That's what I am doing. I am starting. Gathering you all together to stand up for our rights. Whether you support by spreading the word, donations, or volunteering, we WILL make a difference.

If you're ready to give that guy money, I fear for the life decisions you make.

Wtf, my stock Nexus 6p charger is suddenly not working (plug it in, no charge fast or slow). I've changed outlets and rotated the cable to no avail. Will try trickle charge off of USB at work tomorrow, but what are my options for buying an emergency usb-c charger local some time tomorrow? I'm in Canada and have a Best buy nearby and am scared after reading all these USB-c horror stories.

Edit-very strange, charge indicator is flickering on and off several times per second. I enable battery saver and it turns off immediately because a slight charge is detected for a fraction of a second.

The note 7 cost them $5B. Even if you don't believe in their competence, you can likely trust their greed. Another battery issue would mean the end of the company, so I'd suspect they are actually taking things seriously. The tiny 3000mAh battery in the S8 is evidence of this, I think.

That said, that the general response to this wasn't "always have a removable battery" (from all phone companies) kind of blows my mind.
