The really terrible thing is that people still buy this. The folks at West Virginia University keep trying to tell the locals that "Big Coal" is a misnomer based on how many people coal companies have employed for the past generation or more — they're simply not the big source of jobs people seem to think they are, and haven't been for several decades. But no one listens. The biggest employers in West Virginia are Walmart, Kroger, some hospitals, some pharmaceutical companies, then the various retail and service industry jobs. Energy companies appear fairly low on the list — and actual "coal jobs," i.e., unskilled labour that nonetheless pays well, are simply not there at all. "Big Coal" as Appalachia romanticizes it does not exist, has not existed for over a generation, and will never return — not because of government regulations but because machines work faster, harder, longer, and for lower cost than people.

Like when my mother died I was sub 1k cal/day for two weeks. this is even worse when you consider that under normal circumstances I am 6'4" and 10% body fat on a fat day. My RMR is insane and being under 1k cal a day is basically something I should never do, my spiritual fasts I've usually gone for about 1300 and that is plenty effective

They've already said this coal poo poo isn't changing their plans (mainly because the coal companies are going bankrupt all over and their planning incorporates it as a supply chain risk to be addressed, by stopping coal use lmao) E: also their planning report is unvarnished in saying wind generation is going to be the least costly way of expanding generation capacity which is laffo as all hell but kind of characteristic of public power utilities all over since the public votes the board out/in and you don't last long if you're pissing away money trying to make coal happen.
