mlmp08 posted:Do GOs still tell LTs that being a PL is the best part of the entire Army? This was the start of my downward spiral in the army. Everyone at OCS blew smoke up our collective asses about how that was the best job in the Army, then I get sent to Wainwright to be in charge of the rejects getting chaptered or discharged for whatever stupid reason. Calls about them getting in trouble, updates on their court martials (one for child porn!), arrested because they were beating their wives, stealing credit cards or driving drunk, going AWOL to Canada in uniform with all their gear, or deciding to pop hot on a drug screen were the norm. I was still expected to produce training plans and provide soldiers for details, despite most of them being on essentially dead-man profiles or gigantic shitbags. gently caress doing that ever again, gently caress the army, smdftb if you're still in.

The best part of the army was raining hell down on turd burglers in Afghanistan and being way too in it to stop and think whether it was the right thing to do or if there might be civilians in the area and realizing down the road that the human experience is loving complicated, man.

Back when I was a PL some random general showed up to some platoon level training and gave a pretty cool speech (he told a vietnam story or something) and I gave him one of our platoon coins (one of my Soldiers designed it and one of my sgts had a connection in korea to have them made, I paid for them) and he got all misty and said he hadn't been given a coin in like 15 years. Welp, that's my PL/GO story for today.

I got my 90 Day School Drop denied today because of "needs of the Army" yayyy!!! And apparently even though the 90 day school drop is under officer separations it's irrelevant if you are under an ADSO so like what makes it different from a regular REFRAD?? So now I lose my massive non-deferrable scholarship yayyyyyy!!!! gently caress everything.

Have you spoken with your commander? Have you spoken with the S/G-1? They might be able to contact HRC on your behalf (or just let you do it) and talk with the little blue haired lady who literally has the authority to re-write the bible. *edit* also, read the regs/policies regarding your situation. If they are not following them, it happens, you can contact the IG. spacetoaster fucked around with this message at 18:11 on Mar 30, 2017 |

I've always enjoyed watching and listening to the rain when I don't have to do anything or be anywhere, but there's something extra special about it now. I get this warm glow thinking of all the dumb bastards stuck doing stupid poo poo like digging fighting positions while it's pissing out then being expected to have all their gear spotless for the layout that's scheduled for day 0 recovery because reasons, despite everything looking like it was soaked in the aftermath of Tubgirl for a month.Aranan posted:SMDFTB if you're still in.

Sell everything. If you live in an area that has cold winters, keep the waffle top. I would rather do yard work naked than put on any of my uniform again.

Oh, definitely keep the waffles and silks. If you've got a set of work pants you don't mind getting ruined when you do things, ditch the uniform pants.

I've still got my PC and uniform that have my bloodstains on it from my last interaction in the army, telling a SSG with the same TIS as me that retard pieces of poo poo like him were the reason I was getting out of the army. Still feels good. SMDFTB you gently caress, I hope you loving died on your next deployment you worthless bitch.

The silks and waffles are good in a pinch, but really there's a lot better poo poo out there. I'd sell them.

I got a bunch of really nice socks from my time in Alaska, definitely using those on the outside. Silks and waffles I could take or leave, but you can pry that smoking jacket from my rotting corpse. Everything else is going to be sold, except for maybe one uniform so my kids can find it one day, and ask "daddy, you were in the army? Tell us!" And then regale them with hours of bullshit. Enough to traumatize them into never signing up themselves.

So we have a bunch of events coming up in the next few months that my command team listed as no-fail. A large ftx, redeployments, and a couple of historic events that roll into the 75th anniversary of the 101st. So of course the officer downrange, who doesn't even do Public Affairs work, wants me to replace him while he prepares to retire. The man is a running joke who has spent the deployment posting up photos of PT to Facebook while doing his job as an MP advisor, which I am not even close to be trained for. I'm not even mad about going over, as the chances are slim and it'd be four months of extra tax-free pay. Just that it'd only be a Cpt's act of pointless spite that would screw over the brigade PA coverage plan. I'm posting here because I'm certain staff doesn't know this place exists, and I have no other army people to talk to.

Nah, 6 fits the crime. He'll have paid his dues in 6 hours. Didn't know this but even mods have to wait for anything more than 6 hours as well. So the difference between IK and Mod is access to the mod forums, since I can see the ban queue.

The silkweights/waffles are great; they're actually made of high quality Polartec or similar fabrics. I wear the long underwear all the time in the winter, who gives a gently caress if they're tan under your normal pants?

That can be applied to drat near every piece of gear ever given to me. "Gotta put on my silks and waffles, because otherwise I'll freeze to death. Oh, poo poo, if I'm wearing them they'll call be a bitch, and they'll tell me to take them off. If I'm not wearing them I'll lose three toes to frostbite and somehow it will be my fault."
