reddit is ok if you use it for what it is, which is a massive catchall for virtually anything. the culture SUCKS MASSIVE DICK.. but their patronage is so far and wide you can get almost anything whatsoever there

nothing will ever top posting on traditional forums in 2007 i like my avatars and small sub-forum communities, where people recognize each other instead of just random upvotes

i dont get how people can post on reddit. there can be a thread about donald trump getting impeached and the top rated comments are all some stupid reddit meme like "banana for scale" and people tagging along on those comments and people reposting the top rated comments for karma and so on. you might as well just look at the porn there instead of trying to do something educational

yeah I genuinely do not understand how people can find the reddit comment sections usable / enjoyable, I feel like their brains must be fundamentally different from mine somehow

Jabor posted:yeah, that's why people keep shouting since people are so anal about getting upvotes, they just say the most popular answer instead of whats their actual opinion it results in a shout box like Jabor posted:yeah, that's why people keep shouting said there isnt actual discussion, its just people upvoting what they like and downvoting (and thus lowering the post so nobody can see it) stuff they dont like this isnt AS apparent in small sub-reddits (like under 5k subscribers) but goodbye to any real discussion in subreddits with more then 25k subs

reddit is garbage and while the cliquey nature of the forums can be annoying at times I'd take it any day over that soulless shithole even d&d unfortunately i think people are pretty captivated by things like instagram, facebook, and the various other social media stuff, so a forum just isn't as necessary as it used to be. also, the generation of people that used to create cool content for the frontpage were either banned, got bored, or grew up and out of SA.

Jabor posted:getting upvoted is essentially the most basic form of validation there is. "someone liked a thing I said". That's honestly the value-added that SA still brings to the table for me. You can have a semi-focused conversation with internet strangers that both involves more than two posters and that that lasts for more than 6 posts. Good luck finding that on any of the newer social platforms. I'll miss these dead gay forums

it's very important to me that I can tell some dipshit to go gently caress themselves if they're acting the part, so SA still has that market cornered at least.
