FDL: four medium multis and a huge beam or vice versa?

If I went with the huge multi, what's the best way to mod it? I've only looked into laser mods so far.

Also; has there been a change in that you can only cycle a targets subsystem when facing them? I used to target conda plants on a turn circle but it doesn't seem to work any more. It may just be my stick playing up, I seem to have had a few unexplained 'trigger does nothing' moments recently, which is never what you want in the middle of a firefight :o:

Overcharged Incendiary multis are always hilarious and make it an even more flexible weapon, what with being effective against both shields and hulls.

Generally for the more 'efficient' builds, you want to go with smaller energy weapons and larger kinetics; those C2 multicannons have a hard time hurting larger ships, while small energy weapons happily deal full damage to shields regardless of the hull size behind them.

EDIT

Might as well share this finally. A while ago Frontier didn't have all the loops closed off for ways to do some uh, things, that they most certainly didn't want people to do. Since I wanted to do these things I bought a whole new account just in case I was caught (You'll notice when I look right my exploration rank is at zero). I was careful to not sell data or claim things or mess up anything while out exploring, just did it for the experience and rad pictures. I'm pretty sure I hold the record for longest single jump in Elite history. If there was a single player portion of the game I could gently caress around in I wouldn't have had to do this but ~o well~ check out the FSD on this Hauler.

This is how I got to systems nobody can ever get to that I've already shared before. I don't even think you can look these up on the galactic map anymore as to get them to show up before I had to flip the view around all weird just to focus on them. The HIP system is the furthest single system I ever found, something like 30k light years straight 'up' from the disc. Curiously it also has a life-bearing water-world. Those PSR systems are in a cluster straight 'down' from the disc at like 17k? 20k? light years away.

Doing this was the most fun I ever had in Elite and it was totally by myself way the gently caress out in the black.

yeah your explorer rank helps with those scan missions as well as getting your reputation with the local factions up to allied helps as well getting the more lucrative scan missions to drop

i've already made over 250mil doing scan missions out at Quince - it's great and I hope to pad my bank account quite a bit before the update patches out this exploit :homebrew:

I parked in Quince and summoned an iggle before passing out last night. How much does explorer rank help the payouts? I have 87% Ranger, should I run back out into space to get that last 5.3 million for Pioneer? Or would I be better off spending that time grinding now that we have a looming deadline?

You phrased that like there's a better way to use nav data, did I make a mistake dumping mine at Colonia?

Internet Explorer
Jun 1, 2005

I don't think the planetary scans increase your Explorer rank, only gated by it. Selling nav data is all you can do with it, but with engineers like Farseer if you sell it at her station you increase your standing with her. I think you also increase your Explorer rank by doing (most) passenger missions or by gathering mats on planets with your SRV.

I'm still new to this game, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

some of the engineers will take your nav data for unlocking higher gates on upgrades and also I think you can earn some system permits by selling nav data to certain people?? i'm still a megascrub compared to some of the goons in this thread and that question would be better answered by someone else

I can confirm from my lurking that both of those are true, but don't know anything about passengers or how they compare yet.

I do know that to get home, I had to do a lot of SRV gathering in a region that's just about as far as you can possibly get from Sol (in a pre-engineers ship, anyway)... and even with the supposed distance multiplier, literal days of Polonium hunting got me a little ways into Surveyor. I hope to all that is holy passengers aren't on that same grind scale :smithicide:

Our real galaxy has tons of those weird clusters outside the galactic disc. There's a globular cluster 80k light years away, for example. Sadly, from what you experienced it looks like Frontier only included some of the closer ones of those clusters.

Anyway, even outside of clusters there are some systems in the nearly empty void of the halo. The galactic halo gets really thin out there, with about one star every 1k light years on average. No idea how many of those oddities are included in Frontier's simulation, though. :v:

it has some long range mission outside of the bubble and its how I got my elite exploration rank. Scum the hell out of passengers that all go to the same spot its possible to get them all to the same and just go there. But you need to scum hard but will be worth it.
