Let's see, fairy/dragon... Well, it'll be immune to Dragon, weak to Fairy, Ice, Poison, and Steel, resistant to Fighting, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Bug, and Dark. Oh, and there's only one of them in the games and that's a mega evo.

Steel makes sense because steel types are typically either heavily armored or inorganic. With psychic I suppose you can argue "mind over matter" like meditating away an illness or something. But what, sand negates grime now? That's a question to be answered in Pokemon Frack Brown

are there any fan games that have non-type gym leaders? I always thought that would be a cool idea, and I'm disappointed, although not surprised that Nintendo ran with it. I mean, this game sort of vaguely does it, except not coherently. but, I mean, like if anyone remembers the one "gym leader" in Colosseum, Justy, whose gimmick was EVASION. So, gym leaders based on a tactic or something thematic rather than a type. possibilities include: sound (outside of Azurite where it's a type), paralysis, confusion, sleep, poison (the status effect), taking damage and giving it back, berries, weather, entry hazards, draining, critical hits, outer space, theft, substitute, walls (Protect/Reflect/Light Screen/Safeguard), punching, kicking, claws, biting, dogs, cats, spiders, frogs, etc. might mix things up a bit.

I'm gonna have to be the voice of dissent and say that Daikatuna is a bad name, because even though it is a grade A pun, never in a million years would a real pokemon have a Daikatana reference for a name. It's a little too meme-y even for Gamefreak. Also the design is real bad, which is confusing because a literal Sword Fish is a solid concept and the first two stages were at least passable looking.

So uh, who guessed that dunsparce's evo would have angel wings again? Also I rather like the idea behind what they tried with the ninja fish, with the tail being shaped like a kunai and a sai, but the design for daikatuna is really awful looking. As for the pun it would still be ok if it was just katuna so the name could still work.

There's only two acceptable design proposals I have heard of. One is it just grows to huge size, apart from the wings. The other is it stays exactly the same except with big huge elaborate pretty angel wings. This is just poo poo. The horse amoeba is good though Also it is Sablenite Stupid Uranium

Everything about Daikatuna is great except that this is supposed to be a 'serious' fangame. The design is rediculous in a kind of charming way but I have a sad feeling that it's supposed to be cool or something.

My life's goal is to make a Pokemon game with a mega Dragonite so I can make an item called Cubic Dragonium. There's a good name to be had in Katuna for Pokemon, but a Daikatana reference is not it.

Norman's team in gen 3 was pretty gimmicky and not necessarily just random normal types, if I recall correctly. BTW, Daikatuna has a commented out line in the list of mega evolutions, and the Daikatunaite is an unused item in the game's code. Daikatuna does not have an actual mega form defined, though. This cannot be version 1.anything without Mega Daikatuna.

They're ok, certainly worse options if you want a bipedal variant of dunsparce, and yes not being a ~super cool dragon angel~ helps, but I feel everyone deviates from what makes dunsparce so doofy and great. Big fun tsuchinoko with a drill tail and silly wings. I know pokemon likes to do cute/doofy -> cool, but sometimes you gotta keep it silly. Its probably one of the designs where just being a slightly bigger, detailed version of its evolution (like tangela to tangrowth) would work best. i will say that dunseraph looks better than the mess that is corsoreef.

I had no idea what Dunsparce is so I just looked it up and pretty much immediately said, "oh it's tsuchinoko." Looking at it, I get why all these fangames want it to evolve, but the tsuchinoko's whole thing is being this rare mythical creature that appears weak and unassuming. You lose that if you turn it into angel dragon whatever. I'm guessing in the official games it's a pain in the rear end to find?

It's been a while since I played Crystal, but I recall dunsparce being one of those >1% catch rate things in a specific area, that would occasionally swarm and you could get an NPC to call and tell you about it.
