If you didn't kill them just leave the system, wait an hour and come back. Dock somewhere (fly it like you stole it to avoid scans) and pay off your fine. Done. Should only be a token fine anyway and then you can get back to RES grinding in peace.

Alternative: Just move on to the next nearest RES site in a neighbouring system for the next two weeks and let it expire normally.

Alternative Alternative: Kill all the cops for their sweet engineering materials THEN move on to the next system like the locust you are.

I used to bop around in my Fuel Rat DBX, saving stranded NPC pilots in between the distress calls of real people. It was fun and satisfying.

Now that I've converted my DBX into the featherweight exploration ship of my dreams, however, gently caress 'em all!

Quince has shown how fun the Sidewinder is when it comes to landing. The thing is like a Tonka truck as you can pretty much slam the bugger into the ground and it will usually lock and land.

Or the front will catch and do a few forward flips.

Depends on what you want to do with it and how much time you're going to spend engineering it.

All multicannons actually isn't terrible since you can make some of them incendiary which turns their damage into thermal so they'll chew through shields. Only problem is ammo and you probably don't want to spend more than 30-45 minutes shooting things at a time anyway so it's less of an issue than you'd think.

For lasers, something to take into consideration is that they have dreadful damage falloff (they only do full damage up to 500-600m) and that long range weapon mods will set their falloff to the same as their max range making them significantly stronger at range.

I've done some fiddling with loadouts on the beta to try and work out what combo on guns feels best to use as a multi crew (lol) gunner and I've settled on three large long range burst turrets, 2 pack hound missile launchers (from Li Yong-Rui in powerplay), a small emissive pulse turret/small corrosive multicannon turret for debuffing the target and a huge efficient beam laser with the thermal vent effect. My gunners decided they liked burst lasers best as their mainstay weapon with the packhound missiles as their secondary weapons and I control the debuff turrets and huge beam as the helm. Pack hounds generate a mountain of heat so the thermal vent laser helps offset that (so I can keep my heat sinks for shield cells) while being able to be fired forever.

Don't forget to run a Charge Enhanced mod on your Distributor!

This is fantastic. A quick question I have for you and others is: if I don't have access to packhounds yet, what would be a good substitution until I do the powerplay time sink?

And since they only come in one size, how much trouble would it actually be to just grind out gun rank and buy half a dozen pack hounds to leave in storage?

Grinding out the rank is stupid easy. It's the waiting four weeks before you can actually buy them that is the pain and trouble.

Four weeks? Jesus, why four?

Power play without the gap time and aggressive merit decay (do they still decay?) would be awesome. Imagine if PP ranks functioned like faction rep, and the grind was in the initial build-up rather than tediously maintaining it. You'd see a lot more people making a choice and getting semi-ironically attached to the figurehead who supports their playstyle or rp, if you didn't have to devote all your time every week to re-proving your drat loyalty. And if people were permanently flying under one color, weapons would be more like faction trademarks than a not-worth grind carrot.

Plus it's the simplest implementation. They had to go well out of their way to make it this unfun, and I don't understand why... :eng99:

Because :frontear:

that's really all there is to it. Almost everything in this game can be semi-reasonably explained and you can agree or disagree with it, but there can't possibly be any sane reason for how Powerplay is handled, we can only shrug it off as "silly dev is up to their usual shenanigans"

._.
Powerplay was like my first :frontear: autism and thus I know far too much about how it came to be for my own good

Basically they wanted to avoid 'power musical chairs' just for the modules, so obviously the way around this is to make it so it takes 44 loving weeks to collect them all.

People still did musical chairs, it only takes time, and thus started :frontear:'s permanent "we don't have a loving clue how people actually play this game"

Keep in mind all the while the actual powerplay players are caremad that people just grind out the easiest way - which at best wastes effort and at worst wrecks plans - and would rather have it so the modules were just freely given

E: Seriously literally no one is satisfied with the module situation. :frontear: managed a game mechanic that only the tiniest of a fraction of the players actually care about and it can't even satisfy them entirely

They should just move the modules to engineers (like those special size 2/3 engines some of them sell) and be done with it

Or you know just freely available period but I'd accept them being sold by the appropriate engineers

Giovanni0109 posted:

The main reason I use seeker missiles is to wreck any external modules on the ship once shields are down so regular seeker missiles work just fine as a substitute (although they're more vulnerable to point defence). The gunner in multicrew can fire missiles in any direction (as opposed to helm which is limited to the arc in front of the ship as that's all you can maintain lock-on in) so people enjoy the packhounds because they launch a volley of 4 drunken missiles per launcher and look cool as heck. Style is important, after all.

If you're not concerned as much about multicrew you can just stick multicannons or whatever on the medium hard points for a bit more hull damage. Those points are right at the front of the ship so they're also a pretty good candidate for fixed weapons to use at point blank range.
