As I hilariously predicted from the rushed 2.6.2 patch, they've now pushed an "out of band" 2.6.3 patch to Evocati.

It's as if they rushed 2.6.2 out in time for the latest (failing) Drake ship sale. No, that couldn't possibly be it.

Wow, things must be hosed. Why didn't they just go with pre-alpha-2.6.2g or something for everyone instead of going with pre-alpha-2.6.3-evocati. I'm fearing there might be issues with this game development but I know nothing about it.

Patch notes. With all the problems in 2.6.2, no way they don't release another patch ahead of 3.0. Bring on 2.7!!

quote:

Star Citizen Patch 2.6.3
Welcome to Alpha PTU 2.6.3! This patch is primarily dedicated to bug fixes, with continued focus on stability and game performance!
During this initial testing phase, PTU access will be restricted to a small group of players that we will expand on over time as required. Your launcher should show “2.6.3-523117” as the client version. It is strongly recommended that players delete their USER folder for the Test client after patching, particularly if you start encountering any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:\Program Files\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Test.
Please review our current list of Patch 2.6.3 Known Issues, and take full advantage of our Issue Council area of the Community site to report any bugs you encounter, as well as contribute to other players submissions.

Important Issues:
No issues to report!

Updates and Fixes

Star Systems:
Crusader
Fixed another issue causing the ASOP terminals to state “All pads are full” in error.

Game Systems:
Star Marine
Fixed an issue where players who stayed in their spawn rooms at the end of round 2 should no longer see themselves die at the beginning of round 3. Fixed several collision and environmental issues found within Echo Eleven.

Technical:
Fixed a number of client crashes. Made a number of performance tweaks to Echo Eleven and OP Station Demien.

quote:

Those panels that you just talked about, those are more important than you realize.
They could be access panels to work on your engines or shield generators other components. Or it could be a secret hold where you can hide any questionable items from law enforcement. Everything you see on your ship is supposed to serve a functional purpose. The main purpose of these ship reworks is to make all the older ships from 2013-2014 Item Port 2.0 capable so that they could properly implement components into these ships and increase functionality.
Then of course, visually update with the new modeling and texturing techniques they learned over the years and apply the new damage shader

you have tot hink about what's BEHIND the jpegs, guys. Geez!

They don't have a loving clue. Yes, this should've been 2.6.2<insert_letter_here>

I actually had a discussion about this over on FDev just days ago.

quote:

quote:

D.S It's nonsense.

Standard nomenclature is x.x.x.x e.g. 2.6.0, 2.6.1, 2.6.2.1, 2.6.2.2 etc.

Not only are they - in standard fashion - doing it backwards, but they're also setting themselves up for even more drama if they end up releasing 2.6.3 at some point. Or even do a major leap to 2.6.7 ahead of 3.0.

Note that there are new items 2.6.2c which one would argue don't qualify as being a part of the initial 2.6.2 release since it wasn't included. So 2.6.2 would be initials, 2.6.2.x would be derivatives (fixes based on what was released in 2.6.2), not new items (which should go into 2.6.3 etc). For example.

Aside from the fact that going with a, b, c, if this keeps up, they will run out of letters at some point

quote:

That's standard nomenclature for a release product, which SC definitely is not.

For pre-alpha / alpha, software is typically numbered with a leading zero like 0.2.6 or 0.3.0, etc., occasionally with an α symbol as well. The only time a 2.x.x version would be appropriate is if it is for an already released product. Example Elite: Dangerous 2.2.03 being replaced by 2.3.00, or just 2.3.
D.S That's hilariously wrong. How many software projects have you worked on exactly, that led you to believe that this is actually correct?

SC isn't using "standard nomenclature" at all; or it won't have 2.x version numbers for a pre-alpha product. You just said so yourself.

And the fact that it's using an unconventional numbering scheme - even for a pre-Alpha - makes it even more ludicrous that they're using alphabets in the numbering as well.

Some of that comes from an ATV where someone was showing off the Cryeditor.exe map that all the demos are coming from and they grabbed the light source and moved it around to change the shadows on the moons and stuff.

Of course backers didn't immediately understand how fake the demos they paid $12,000,000 for were by being shown literally how fake they were and instead saw the unlimited potential of dreams and imagination where planets were 100% real to life simulations due to the ability to manipulate the light source so easily.

It's one of those crazy train lines of reasoning that only the truly delusional have. "If they can move the sun that easily then all things are possible!!!!!!!" and not "Oh so this is just an editor map anyone could make" like most rational people would.

I made a scale solar system with correct orbits, axis rotations and relative planet sizes in Maya one time. Anyone looking at that and thinking I could give them anything but that is a loving retard projecting their own issues onto something.
