That (drafting Lafleur) was right after winning the Cup, too. Sam Pollock was a genius workaholic GM.

Beliveau's wiki page says it's true, but the page for the league he was playing in says it isn't.

THe Habs wanted to sign him to a b-form when he was a junior, his parents insisted on a c-form. As the story goes, he was doing so well with the Quebec Aces he wasn't going to leave, so the Habs bought the league, turned it professional and then exercised their rights and forced him over. Another story is that they built the original Quebec Colisee to accommodate the fans he brought in. Neither story is true. The QSHL went Pro after the CAHA kicked out the QAHA. The Quebec Colisee was built before Believeau played in Quebec.

BJ's will win in 5 but the Pens will panic after going down 3-1 and put Sestito into the lineup and he's going to run Bobrovsky and take him out for the rest of the playoffs. Malkin will also cheapshot someone like Werenski or Jones or Atkinson so the BJ's will limp into the second round and get bounced

Matt Calvert scored the 2OT GWG in Game 2 in 2014. He's good for 10+ goals a year and a top PKer with William Karlsson, who is a solid defensive center. Josh Anderson is a rookie who potted 17 in the regular season. That's the fourth line right now. Lukas Sedlak isn't very notable, but useful and provides flexibility in where Gagner plays. Lauri Korpikoski...OK, you got me there. Point is there isn't really a "tweener" on their list of potential fourth liners. Besides Rangers and Pens, the Caps definitely pants shat against Montreal in 2010. 2008 against the Flyers might count, but 1989 against the Flyers definitely counts. The cup final against Detroit in 1998 was a sweep, but people forget how close it really was and the Caps actually led in game 2 when Tikkanen missed the empty net and that was deeply making GBS threads. The 1987 Easter Epic was a pants making GBS threads for the ages. They also blew a 2-0 series lead to the Isles in 1985. poo poo!

I was doing an online class which ended just in time for me to come down and see Montreal take a 2-0 lead, only for the Caps to bring it to 2-1 with like a minute left. Caps were my safety team that year and I was like "...huh...?".

This is like Mike Yeo playing coy about if it'll be Dmitrij Jaskin or Scottie Upshall on the 4th line LW. Neither of them are going to make a huge difference in the series just like Columbus' weakest 4th liner isn't going to make a meaningful difference. The whole point is that anyone who means anything to the opposition is already known to be in the lineup so Torts making that cute quip is unnecessary coach speak.

Is this the most favoured matchup the capitals have had in recent memory? I know they were the 1 seed vs. montreal in the quarterfinals before when they were Halak'd. But I imagine montreal still had a few people feeling they could make a splash. Literally every single prediction is picking washington at 4-1 or 4-0, which is very obvious. I'm just surprised there's not even a homer wanting to throw toronto a game 6 or game 7 bone.
