It has to be Hitting Rocks, because competition requires you to scan designated quest nodes. You can't just hit up any old lithium deposit, oh no! You have scan this one specific lithium rock stuck away in the rear end end of nowhere.

Not even DA:I pulled that poo poo. It was drowning in useless busywork quests, but when some random asked you for a bunch of elfroot you could go snag some off the nearest vendor and be done with it.

They had this idea of continue with the Mass Effect universe, but create a new story. Is a good idea. They want to make money, fans want to play more games like the ME. Everyone wins.

To continue with the Reapers thing is against this, is bad for everyone.

Yeah, this was a bit disappointing. I was expecting each one to be something of a set piece dungeon, but after the first they're all pretty tiny.

I do like the idea, though, that Ryder is the chosen one because for some reason she's the only person from the Milky Way who knows how to play Sudoku.

Personally I think they really dropped the ball with the Reapers. I thought it was going to turn out the Reapers were storing all galactic civilizations in Reaper form, complete with every living person at the time of the reaping stored digitally, that made up the personality of the reaper, until such time as the Reapers could figure out what to do about the Galactic Problem, whether it was dark energy or synthetics or whatever. This was strongly foreshadowed in the continuing internal life of the dead reaper and the "each of us is a nation" line and the gooping humans to make a reaper, but they just dropped it.

I'm trying to do the sidequest on Eos "A Secret Project" but when I go to where the guide says an open door is, it isn't. There's four doors around the compound. One's on the roof and is open with a basically empty room.
There's then three more. In the video I watched one of those was unlocked but I couldn't tell if she did something to get it open. Does anyone know?

The focus on being pioneers and explorers rings a little hollow when every last planet you land on is already inhabited by angara and/or exiles. Even the hosed up low gravity place has bad men on it when you arrive. All you end up doing is going into the Remnant vault, push a button to magically solve whatever environmental problem there is, and then make nice with the local warlord so that you can plop an outpost down.

It's actually a deep commentary on the delusions of explorers past, of the erasure of native populations and their own discovery of their continent.

I said that earlier - although it does mean that everyone doesn't advance down the same line of civilization - since there's no mass drivers and no Citadel to centralise everyone.
Surely there's some hyper-advanced people in Andromeda somewhere though. Man I wish this game was about that instead.

It's worth noting that this is no longer true as of the release of Nexus Uprising. I read the first two OG Mass Effect books and NU blows them out of the water from even a semi-objective pure writing quality standpoint. And frankly if you skip it, you don't miss out on all that much, but the one thing it did radically change for me was my perspective of Sloane Kelly. She's one of the protagonists of Nexus Uprising and clearly meant to be a relatable character for the reader. I think that book is the only reason I sided with her in the game, because her character comes off completely different. The only other character similarly fleshed out is Addison, who I became far more sympathetic to after reading the book. Tann sucks no matter what and he should have let someone responsible for more than pushing numbers around lead the initiative instead of making massively terrible decisions and refusing to defer anything to people with actual leadership experience.

I was going to mention that, yeah. But now it's like the opposite problem. The tie-in stuff is better than the game.

Rookersh posted:

Hey, you know how Jardaan tech requires the user to be mixed organic/synthetic?

And how they didn't exist in the Andromeda Galaxy 600 years ago when the Initiative left?

Word on the street ( and this is what I was talking about pre release as the disappointing bit that hurts the og trilogy ), which I'm going to spoil since it might show up in the DLC is that the og plan for the Jardaan was that they were us from the Milky Way after the synthesis ending. Now that all are one, we decided to go to the Andromeda Galaxy to prep/uplift the galaxy for the Initiative. We also might have had something to do with the creation of the Kett/Angarans.

There was apparently a huge debate over this, which is what led to the Halo 4 writer/quite a few Bioware writers to finally leave. No idea if it's still the actual plan going forward, so I'm spoiling it for the people that are really enjoying Andromeda.

I hope this is true. It wouldn't be too surprising given that there's a shared green color scheme.

I would love it if the next Bioware game you couldn't initiate any flirting or romance, but it was just something the npcs did to you.
You'd be walking around and all of a sudden some rando would start talking to you and be al "Hey, sexy thang rawr" and you'd be all "excuse m- I'm sorry. What?" And they'd be all "Oh yeah, I like those pants. Keep that mouth open like that suck my alien rear end in a top hat. i'm a very important member of society but walk to the beat of my own drum." and you culdn't get away and then there's a sex scene that your character obviously enjoys because that's the point of these games and then afterwards the npc gives you some gold and you get some experience, and that's how you level up in the game.

Just whoring it up except you have no agency.

Subvert the system.

The rest of us don't. Mac Walters reputedly locked himself in a room to write it without input from that pesky writing team and it just doesn't work. Synths and organics don't get along... except we've known since ME2 the Geth don't want a war with the Quarian Flotilla and would really just like them to stop shooting on-sight for five minutes please.

ME3? It's a major locked-in plot point of going through Geth records and finding they stopped themselves after chasing the Quarians off of Rannoch, because they started to realize it might be a bad ides to kill all of them. They'd been looking after their homeworld ever since, hoping the Quarians would come back without shooting at them.

Nevermind EDI getting on fine with the crew.

We have Geth and Quarians living peacefully side-by-side with real hope for it lasting, even fighting together in the Fleet at the end.

But Mac Walters disagrees with this idea, and forced his lovely OG green tattoo concept in. Hope trillions of people enjoy being forcibly altered without their consent! Now lets go all weld armor plates to our head, because we need to make nice with the Krogan next, and according to Mac Walters thats how to make peace. Afterwards we'll paint ourselves blue to go improve Asari diplomatic relations.

That's so "but the truth is in the middle" retarded bullshit.

One choice destroys the aggressors completely - and nothing much changes for anyone else except they stop getting murdered. You're argument is like "Oh, but I couldn't possibly give you an umbrella now since it's started raining already."
Another choice stops the threat and places it in the control of one person. Again, basically people stop dying is the overall effect.
The last choice mind rapes everyone and borg's them and forces them to take some type of pill where all thought is no longer private yadda yadda.

God I literally know you're a useless troll but you still get me, man.

I said this waaaaaay upthread but an interesting way to handle it would be to introduce some plot device that let the protagonist of a future Milky Way game travel between parallel universes - one for Destroy, one for Control, etc. you could even include cool poo poo, like one where Shepard refused, or one where Shepard actually did get indoctrinated. Bioshock Infinite your way between universes for the entire game, then plot happens and they all converge into a single universe again, and there's your soft reboot.

But a single Reaper survived...

Indoctrinated Shepard chooses Synthesis every time and in that universe everyone has been turned into Tron-colored semi-sentient floating and bipedal robots. They still gently caress.
