LadyPictureShow posted:I like both Faceoff and CM, not only because it's interesting to see people make cool stuff, but a lot of the contestants seem really good-matured and helpful to one another. I haven't seen every season of Faceoff, did Syfy try to insert false drama on the show in early seasons? I feel like the most critical thing people have said about other contestants is like 'He spent too much time making a prop' Yes; while the overall tone of the show kind of was showing through (and it's what people liked enough to make them eventually stop doing the false drama thing) they tried all kinds of ridiculous poo poo in season 1, and somewhat in season 2. By season 3 they stopped entirely. I mean it's not NEARLY as bad as most shows; like I said, the tone of cooperation and a kind of professional attitude was there, just buried under poo poo like Syfy trying to push this whole dramatic love triangle thing in season 1. It wasn't enough to ruin the show but it was annoying as hell. Season 3 is the one where pretty much all of that stuff stopped entirely. Most of the drama from that point comes from legitiamtely butthurt artists and people getting pissy about tolding their work sucks, which while I know they edit video, is pretty consistent with the attitudes of the people involved. My favorite was the guy who did that melty face poo poo-man, then ragequit before he could get sent home. I truly don't believe the show had anything to do with that, the guy bitched on the internet and tried to sue them for months. LadyPictureShow posted:My boyfriend asked me if any contestants from previous seasons ever didn't complete a look for a challenge? Aforementioned melty face man was the first instance of this. He turned out the biggest piece of poo poo you've ever seen in your life, it looked like someone threw colored clay at a model like baseballs and went with it. The second instance I can think of was that softcore porn girl that honestly wasn't all that bad and legitimately earned her spot in the top 4, but then had an emotional breakdown over her boyfriend or something and bailed on the whole show... which is doubly stupid because she'd probably been eliminated that night but gone out with an honorable "you didn't quite make the finale, but you did good." Instead she looked like a complete loving idiot. If I remember right, I think she works for "Zorg" now. I'd like to see ol' Zorg again. ED: Anyone remember which season / who that guy was that had a total freaking meltdown in episode 1? It was truly hilarious. ED: Oh yeah, in earlier seasons, there were also several instances of major technical problems with the lab equipment loving people's stuff up and them being given a safe-pass because of it; also several instances of them using models not used to the chemicals, that started having breathing attacks 30 seconds after getting suited up; they too got given safe-passes. Basically several times an artist didn't finish during the show, but almost all of those cases were health related to the model or a legitimate problem with the lab and nobody was sent home over them. I don't think it's an issue anymore since all the models are kind of long time associates with the show and don't have problems and they've worked out just about every kink in the lab. Cosplay Melee is ok so far but I think I'm going to get pretty tired of the format pretty fast. Even when compared to Face/Off. Every CM episode we're going to have to see the picture of the host being kissed by Norman Reedus to show how much of a super fan she is and we're going to have one of the contestants always say they recognize her from Community, for example. But this poo poo is coming from someone who can't stand how Glenn Hetrick always says "Goooood Evening" when he's introduced and who notices when Mckenzie Westmore sounds slightly different when she delivers her lines, so whatever.

Not things like Ben covering the rat-witch hands with fingerless gloves or a not so stellar paint job, but like a catastrophic gently caress-up. There was that guy who made a killer rabbit (I think) and the body was just fun fur. Also that girl who was awful and drew paws on what looked like mittens.

If you wanna talk crazy contestants, who was it that was pretty poo poo, only liked doing goth/horror makeups, and when she was eliminated, she kept saying they eliminated her because she was fat. And for the record, I liked George's makeup, even if it was colored like an action figure. I didn't like Emily's actually. It felt like the big chunks of black veins covering 80% of the top of the head distracted from the overall look, but whatever.

Did anyone notice one of the contestants, Marty, on CM was a Goonette? I can't remember her SA forum name, but she did a huge thread a couple years ago about being a party princess at kid's parties.

Looks like this was another case of past performance overcoming a bad week, because based solely on this week, Emily should have gone home. Why do people keep violating the first rule of Face Off: "Never Do Lava"?

It feels like Emily and Tyler have been relying on looks they did in previous challenges ( Tyler and his love of making faces out of vines, Emily with strategic nature placements on the bosom). Like, it was interesting the first time. Now I'm just wondering if that's all they can do. I also think there should have been a bottom 3 because Cig and George were the only two who made good makeups. (Popsicle sticks!) Miz Kriss fucked around with this message at 14:02 on Apr 12, 2017 |

And that loving nose. Don't give your Polynesian god a gigantic goofy nose. And in Emily's defense, her god was literally the god of volcanoes and lava so there wasn't much choice there. It looked a lot better in the end than I expected given how loving bad it appeared when she was freaking out over the cowl.

It looked a lot better in the end than I expected given how loving bad it appeared when she was freaking out over the cowl. I guess she could have made the lava effect look more specifically Hawaiian, there's a type of lava called pahoehoe which looks like long ropey strands of hair and there's even a pahoehoe formation in Hawaii called Pele's Braids. There's other lava phenomena which the Hawaiians call Pele's Hair and Pele's Tears which she could have included although they're not quite as visually interesting. She also could have made the entire sculpt look more regal and godlike rather than making it look like a random D&D lava creature. On the other hand they've had a few topics this season which were basically "Make a human figure, but not so" such as "Make a cursed witch" and "Make a god" where if the contestants didn't have a great idea immediately it was way too easy for them to flounder. I dunno what Logan was supposed to do with "God of Agriculture", I think any of the contestants would have struggled with that.

Cig mentioned in a Facebook post that they don't have internet access so I think it's unfair to say that Emily should have gone with specifically Hawaiian lava formations. That's not something the average non-Hawaiian is going to know about even if they're into mythology. Logan's was weak but even Neville pointed out that "agriculture" is such an abstract concept that he didn't even know if a makeup could be made from it. I felt kind of bad for him but it was a pretty unattractive makeup.

Yeah, I think this was the biggest problem. If she had more sweeping forms and elegant curves it would have worked much better. Modeling after Hawaiian forms would have been cool, but not necessary to salvage the make up. She just needed a little less spiky monster and more regal deity.

I loved George's happy dance in the interview clip that he was going to the finale. Also I think that even though George's creature was kinda ugly and haphazard, I think deconstructionism is supposed to be kind of a middle finger to architecture, so in a way George really succeeded. Still don't like that stupid wing though, but hey, it worked.
