Here's my blistering take:

The democrats will remain a mess as long as they keep being republicans that hate black and gay people less (no money in it). They have no real identity besides supposedly being in opposition to the other party, and it's just such an inherently lovely position to operate from.

Dems know that if they ever have power again, they cannot actually do anything without breaking kayfabe. That's why they don't seem to ever want to win. It's why obama never seemed especially keen on getting anything done. It's why they spend so much time trying to convince their voters that the things they want are actually bad or impossible.

This is the only way I can make sense of the democratic party.

This is such a weird thing to obsess over when 99% of the left including the far left and all is taking this as a sign of the slipping hold on these historically blood red districts, and then here's like five very angry people who expect either a win or nothing.

the leadership of the opposition party entirely benefits on a personal financial level from the policies put forward by the party in power. its not even a little bit in their interest to win.

The Georgia candidate is a party insider who supported Hillary. The Kansas guy was an outsider who got interested in politics when he supported Bernie last year.

Believing in nothing and only acting in opposition was wildly successful for the republicans.

the Georgia candidate also has a good shot because the R's have been tearing themselves apart in that district and now there's even some dipshit libertarian who's gonna get involved last minute to really gently caress with their numbers while the Kansas guy was a moonshot in one of the reddest districts in the area

On the contrary, the republicans have extremely consistent and clear messaging of "gently caress you, more money for us".

They also run on advocating for smaller government, while doing everything in their power to make the government operate poorly. It's an extremely potent feedback loop imo

wonder what happened from 96 to 98 that changed that district from "leans R" to "redder than the devil's rear end in a top hat". it doesn't seem like it was redistricting

'98 was in the throes of the run-up to Clinton's impeachment, but Democrats actually won 5 seats that year, so if anything it went against the trend.

Winning as many races as possible is literally the only thing that matters. It's not outrageous to attempt to compete in a red district where an enormously unpopular GOP governor and open seat make winning at least an outside possibility. I suspect the national GOP apparatus spent $200k to hold the district for a reason. But if we want to pretend that they're irrational sure, that's fine. Ha, we won by making them waste money!!! We got close without an investment of money, and investing money now does literally nothing! Please cut us more checks!!!!!

ACTUALLY money is only valuable in this race, where we spent lots, and proven to have zero value in that race, where we didn't spend. That's just obvious, shame you haven't caught on.

lol hoply gently caress hillary is even more garbage than i could have ppssibly imagined

quote:

Hillary was so mad she couldn’t think straight. She was supposed to be focused on the prep session for that night’s Univision debate in Miami, but a potent mix of exhaustion and exasperation bubbled up inside.

The blame belonged to her campaign team, she believed, for failing to hone her message, energize important constituencies and take care of business in getting voters to the polls. And now, Jake Sullivan, her de facto chief strategist, was giving her lip about the last answer she’d delivered in the prep session.

“That’s not very good,” Sullivan corrected.

The comment was pointed and sarcastic, but she meant it. So for the next 30 minutes, there he was, pretending to be Hillary while she critiqued his performance.

Every time the Yale lawyer and former high school debate champ opened his mouth, Hillary cut him off. “That isn’t very good,” she’d say. “You can do better.” Then she’d hammer him with a Bernie line.

i meam, in terms of sheer hubristic overconfidence, terrible messaging, and inability to make the right decision, those are qualities about hillary's nanagerial style that hillary has tried to avoid throughout her career and she returns to again and again

not exactly ideal for a CIC
