While it should come as no surprise that women are wussy (or rather pussy - that's practically tautological) like you say, I think this misplaced fear is mostly due to a misandric tendency to scapegoat and unfairly view men as predators, spurred on by opportunistic feminists for various reasons including financial ones (more hysteria about rape culture means more state dosh to fight it). Seeing posts on Facebook asking people to vote in a poll to ask the government to take responsibility for the attack a few days back. Which left me scratching my head. Responsibility for what? Security policy? The Swedish policy is about the same as the rest of Europe's. Immigration policy? Up until a month or so before the attack he wasn't being sought for any kind of crime anywhere, though his deportation to Sweden is kind of weird. Like are people imagining S planned all this or do they not understand what responsibility means?

For those not in the know, our finance ministers religious commitment to running a surplus has finally made the state debt level so low that the bond market barely has enough bonds to function. So therefore apparently we're hatching up plans to start a sovereign wealth fund which is going to be funded by creating more bonds. (Specifically, 5% of GDP) Because clearly that is the rational option and not just you know doing some stimulus spending put towards our social services, national infrastructure or addressing the housing crisis which would create bonds while actually creating tangible value for society instead of simply inflating the stock market. I hate this government so much. As for the budget, if you own a private company (like I do) you might also note that the tax exception for fåmannsföretag is getting both reduced (from 10% to 5%) and constrained (from about 150k per year to a 100k using förenklingsregeln). I think this is mostly fine because the dividend tax code is already extremely generous for small private companies but C and M are predictably livid. There's also uproar about the marginal tax line once again not getting counted up as much as it could but anyone that didn't see that coming hasn't been paying attention. Overall the budget is really uninspired and mostly it seems to be a pre-amble to some sizeable election fat next year. There's some talk of the budget getting shut down but I'll believe that when I see it happen.

If I can, I'd like to address the point that was brought up about police being stuck doing administrative tasks rather than policing. In Norway at least, my understanding is that the Police Directorate (I think?) has made sure to suppress the amount of civilian consultants that any district can employ, meaning that you need to be educated as a police officer to do basic bureaucratic casework. As such, whenever the right wing party du jour does their patriotic chest beating about having created/wanting to create more police jobs I just roll my eyes because they will inevitably be mostly desk jobs thanks to the lack of civilian caseworkers.

I have not read the part about the wealth fund before, so thanks for enlighting me. I really can not understand the point -its not like we live in the actual socialist paradise and have problems with what to spend money on to fix things as everything is already done and perfect. drat the meme that is "fulla" or "tomma" lador. The budget seems to be a soft ball in order to not have to fight for it; next year is going to be an awful mess as everyone will want to fight on principle while also trying to not look like they cooperate with SD. Probably will suck more than usual with MP and KD slipping away into nothingness and SD as 2:nd largest party. Bleh.

I am guessing they need to reserve some money for the municipalities that are going to get shafted once social security costs for them transfer from the Migrationsverket to them, which will happen this and next year. But yeah, this lack of public spending is kinda amazing for a S government as this traditionally is supposed to be what they are good at. That they are not giving more money to the police is kinda interesting since it would defuse a lot of criticism from the opposition. It is also noteworthy that they do PR things for stuff on the order of a couple of billions, which is basically pocket money. I also don't get this government. There is nothing wrong with public spending and I would applaud increased funding to areas in sore need of this. The "free" market is not really good at this type of long time investments. I am perfectly happy with the deduction of the tax exception, since it will affect people like Gardell, Schyffert and Timbuktu as well as a bunch of journalists who are owners of multimillion fåmansföretag without employees and who take out salaries below the marginal tax line. In case it haven't been noted in this thread, I am all for hypocrites and holier-than-thou people getting what they deserve, irrespective of their political views.

It's basically been a subsidy for upper-middle class contractors (encouraging them to dodge the marginal tax by shuffling income into dividends) since its inception so I would be happy to see it go. I will however never get your hateboner for people using our tax code exactly like it was designed to be used.

Sure, but there's a whole bunch of bleedover between the administrative casework, prosecutorial and active policework as well. I'm part of a few interest groups for police prosecutors, and reading between the lines of a lot of stuff in articles and such, the police in Norway are still a bit of an organisational mess. I don't know if it's because of the redistricting, or if it's because of a patchwork administrative system, or what. The idea that the current government has put more police on the street is laughable, though. Most of the bloat has been the directorate, not much for active policework and prosecution is still woefully understaffed (and subject to an ancient and stupid system per the code of criminal procedure, but that's a different gripe of mine). There is after all nothing stopping them from taking high salaries and paying marginal tax, if they put their money where their mouth is. I'm sure everyone here is familiar with the term dogwhistling in politics. I recently had a discussion with a friend that denied that SD use dogwhistles in their use of language, while I maintain they definitely do, with the intent to get the racist voters. Now I unfortunately don't pay that much attention to what they actually say, but what are some good examples of honest to god dogwhistles that they've used the last couple of years?

If they go bankrupt they'll just get bought out by one of the labels and the service turned to poo poo.

The labels seem to be stuck on the high times of CD sales in the 90s. They want that up-front payment that an album purchase gives, as if they don't even realize that Spotify has millions of dedicated premium users, who pay every single month and each generate more yearly profit than the average music listener who buys a couple of albums a year. They also have an unhealthy focus on the free users, who still generate profit. Those users would be using Youtube (significantly less profits) or would be downloading music for free (no profits at all), if they weren't using Spotify Free. People generally just don't care about buying albums anymore, they want music as a service. The big labels definitely need to die, but unfortunately they're sitting on a huge treasure chest of cultural history that a lot of people still want to listen to. The only way to make a positive change is to completely reform copyright and let the old dinosaurs wither and die. Unfortunately, in 10-15 years, we'll probably look back on The Golden Age of Streaming, like some kind of lost library of Alexandria.
