I remember one sergeant who had just over a year left on his contract, was thinking of reupping, and came down on orders to Polk. He then made a dec statement, and told the reenlistment NCO to eat a dick. I've never been but that reaction was enough for me.

Rumor was at Wainwright that even people at Ft Polk made fun of us for being at a remote base without any redeeming factors.

I liked Wainwright, but I chose Alaska over Hawaii and I went infantry so obviously I'm dumb. If you're into outdoors poo poo you can't beat Alaska, I knew quite a few dudes who came to Wainwright specifically for the hunting and fishing.

If people actually ended up just stuck as holds in Basic for weeks on end, they'd have to redirect all the funds to behavioral health and legal services as they all got themselves chaptered out.

Not sure the best place to ask this, so I will ask here. I am a retiree who just got married a few weeks ago. I am signing up my wife and step kids for Tricare, and I have a choice between regular Tricare and Prime. Which is better for a family? Years ago, regular Tricare was better because it required no referrals for specialists. Can someone give me a Big Purple Dinosaur rundown of the two?

Speaking of Polk...

https://www.armywtfmoments.com/2017/04/12/breaking-chlorine-gas-bomb-found-disarmed-military-base/

quote:

Chlorine gas bomb found, disarmed on military base

A homemade device containing what is believed to be chlorine gas was discovered Wednesday on a Louisiana military base, according to witnesses on the scene.

The device was discovered in a car in the post library parking lot on Fort Polk, home to one of the Army’s combat training centers. Eyewitnesses said the incident began after 12:00 pm, when officials cordoned off the parking lot and prevented people from leaving the area.

Witnesses said representatives from the FBI, the military police, CID, and other law enforcement agencies were on the scene, including some in hazardous materials protective suits.

A Fort Polk spokesman released a statement through the post’s official Facebook page that “… (s)oldiers noted someone acting suspiciously, in a way that made them uneasy. They took action by calling the authorities.”

Officials say no one was harmed and there is no danger to the Fort Polk community, and that the incident is under investigation.

TRIcare Prime is best if your on a fixed income, and it's a great health insurance policy- Just make sure you live nowhere near an MTF.

Thanks for the replies.
We live about 30 miles from the War College. The lady at Tricare told me with either plan, I don't have to use a MTF since I am a retiree. I honestly don't know the difference between the two, and figured someone here would be able to explain it in simple terms my broke brain could understand.

edit: I want to say for Prime for my wife and I its like something absurdly cheap like $500$1000 a year too

I and the other airborne holdovers were dropped off at the 217th Transport, which is a reserve unit, and are doing cool poo poo with bunch of the Active Reservist NCOs and their LT. It's just 8 dudes and dudettes, and no privates outside a drill weekend, so they wanted some from 232nd Med Batt trainees. It's like a different world.

It's loving hilarious, they are all in their civvies, barbecuing food for us, while we cut lawn and trim weeds. Legitimately not minding being treated like a human and drinking monsters in the sun.

The Reserve seems loving awesome.

Yeah, AGR life is probably the best way to have a full time military career. Of my misgivings with my time as a reservist, being treated like poo poo by leadership was never really a huge issue but more or less the dumb Army bureaucracy and soul crushing time wasting for pointless training/administrative tasks.

Chances are unless they're some meathead combat arms person or someone who is way to wrapped up in their identity as a soldier that they'll probably be pretty chill. Although you do get reservists who overcompensate because they feel inferior to AD and try and be super soldiers.
