Yeah the problem is now I think they're 100% stuck with AMac until his contract dies. I don't think they can even stash him in Lehigh Valley at this point.

The only way I see it working is if Sanheim comes up and can stick in the NHL. Which you would probably need a season at least to figure out, but it's still a possibility for the year after next. The thought of replacing AMac with Sanheim kind of makes me :swoon:

I feel like Goligoski and Demers, on the whole, are significantly better than Michael Del Zotto and Nick Schultz, so it's a more significant loss.

tbf the flyers are rebuilding so how they do in the standings doesn't matter too much as long as they don't somehow inhibit the development of their young defensemen, whereas the dallas stars intended to compete for the stanley cup before their core players' sweetheart contracts ran out

Yeah it's hard to judge the flyers against the standings right now because the caps are in god mode and the Pens were world killers when half the roster wasn't dead

The oilers tried this with all their draft picks, but the best veteran they could come up with was Andrew Ference.

Philly is basically about 60% complete on a major retooling. Hextall's job was first to do what he could to shed all the poo poo contracts that Holmgren gave him, then build the team back up from the prospect pool, which Homer largely ignored and left to die. There's promise there already in guys like Ghost Bear and Konecny, but it's still going to need another couple years to get them to where they want to be.

E: I mean this year sucked, yeah, there's no denying that, but the long game here seems to be looking pretty good. They knew this and last year were largely write-offs, even if they didn't publicly say it. Hextall stocked draft picks like crazy and is finally freeing up cap space, which was completely unheard of under Holmgren.

This is exactly why I can't help but trust Hextall. He has done a good job shedding some of those bad contracts (and that Rinaldo trade lmao) and him saying the young guns are going to be the focus going forward is something I don't think I've ever heard in my lifetime from the Flyers front office.

It's gonna be painful at times but the future is looking good.:unsmith:

MDZ isn't the worst when he's healthy. He can move play pretty well and jumps up in the rush offensively. He definitely needs a more stay-at-home-minded partner though

Someone should be able to put him to good use next year.

Anthony Stolarz is confirmed out for the AHL playoffs after he got hurt Wednesday. Alex Lyon takes over and will be backed up by Carter Hart.

BSH posted:

Hart signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers back in October, so there are no contract hoops for him to jump through to join the Phantoms and this won’t affect his slide rule status with the Flyers (his entry-level contract will not begin this year, in other words). Prior to his joining the Phantoms, Reading Royals goalie Martin Ouellette had been backing up Lyon with the Phantoms (he’d just been called up yesterday), so it’s likely that he’ll be heading back to Reading in short order as they continue their own playoff run.

I'm curious to see who ends up grabbing Jake Oettinger. Maybe Ottawa or Phoenix with that late 1st they own from the Hanzal trade. Both NY teams'd make sense but #15 might be reaching for him? I dunno. This draft is kind of shallow from the impressions I'm getting so maybe reaching isn't a bad idea.

His HERO chart looks exactly like Trevor Daley. I would take him if he was affordable. Wonder if he ends up in Vegas though. Young'ish with experience with a pretty positive impact when he's on the ice.

NBC's ratings hit all time lows across the regular season, so get ready for literally every game next year to be chicago vs. pittsburgh

quote:

]The outdoor games ratings bump was a bust this season. The Centennial Classic didn’t draw Winter Classic ratings on Jan. 1, and the Winter Classic hit a new low on Jan. 2 for NBC.

I'd like to think this means we'll finally have less of these but lol that's not happening

I think they need to decrease scoring some more to get better ratings. Maybe re-institute the foot in the crease rule?

How bad will things have to get before they even consider making streaming (especially home games) easy and straightforward? I got PS Vue just for the playoffs, but I'm still paying more for poo poo I don't need. I know the cable bundling makes them money hand over fist, but I have this money and I want to give it to them and it's stupidly hard.

Ala carte channels will never happen. The channels you want subsidize the ones you don't. The theory is that enough people watch at least one channel in a package that they all make money.

If you got only the stuff you wanted, the whole TV economy would fall apart.

Yeah, if it's one sport stopping someone from cutting cable, they'll stream it or find somewhere to watch a game here and there.

Younger generations are realizing cable TV is garbage. You pay $100 for a thing that's 35% unskippable ads to watch a show when they say you have to watch it, when 80% of it is free online the next day? naw. hell naw.

pro sports are probably the only thing keeping a lot of people connected, and they can't keep everybody.

Even the steaming options are lovely, they're cheaper, which is nice. But they allow the network to determine ad policy, which basically guarantees you're going to be watching unskipabble ads.

I'm in canada, that's already a thing. The big 4 already own all the stations that license the american content.

Rogers(think rogers center, rogers arena, rogers place) owns sportsnet who has all the NHL games. If you have a cable sub, you can log in with it to watch the games online for free, if you don't, it's $25 a month for streaming of their channel.

It's not bad, you get every single hockey game for your local market, and maybe 50% of the out of market games aren't blacked out, and every single blue jays game. It's $18 to add all those channels to your existing cable package, so if hockey or blue jays baseball are all you care about you can pay $100 less on the cable bill and $7 more for the sportsnet thing.

TSN, owned by Bell(think bell center), still forces you to have a cable sub, but getting somebody with a cable sub to set up an e-mail for you on their account is good enough.
