Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
After School

Tsukiyo: Miho makes a quick phone call and very clearly becomes flustered afterwards.

: "U-uhm, Tsuki... I missed my train and the lines are closed..." She returns your phone, frowning. "I don't have anywhere to stay until the morning." Miho regards Akio for a moment before giving him a friendly little smile. "That's really brave of you... but, uhm... who're you again?"

Akio: Your senpai seems pleased as she takes down your name. : "Very good. I'm not interested in any slackers in my organizations, so participation in this event gives you a very good chance to join the Student Council afterwards."

Noriko: : "All art has a personal element to it... maybe you can find something you like at the Gardening Club. I know they meet year round." She writes something on a little script of paper and passes it to you. Meeting times and room name. "Why don't you go there on Monday?"

School Council Meeting: (I haven't heard from Itsumi in awhile but this scene is pretty much over. I'll give them another two days or so. Same goes for Takashi if he had anything to bring up or respond to.)

Saturday Night

You don't have much time left in the evening, but at least you have tomorrow off as well. You could head straight to sleep, focus on studying for a bit before bed, or even get in a bit of time in DDW. You could grind for some money, try to make a social contact or even follow up on recruiting some Support Persona, either new ones or resuming your earlier failed leads(Nekomata, Doggo.)

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
Etemenanki

Charlotte doesn't seem to even care that anything dropped, but the other two quickly turn to face you. They wear the [ORDER] tag as well and outside of the scaling raid encounter are wrapped up in so much levels and gear that the UI gives them convenient skull icons to indicate their threat level relative to yourself. The hulking melee fighter and the mysterious mage, timeless cliches played to the world level...

Brave_Fenrir <the Invincible>

<Calculator> Mage Isabelle

: "You're a brave guy. If it was anyone else I think I'd be pissed." Despite being a Fighter, Fenrir wields a pair of massive clawed gauntlets and spent the entire battle dealing damage. An off-spec builder for sure.

: "I believe there are two pieces of gear that could be used in an ancillary capacity." Isabelle gestures forward and two of her books glide up and open. She studies you intensely as she takes down notes.

: Still not spawned in, Bishop's strange tones cut in. "But first we make the Order stronger. If you would, Fenrir."

Once prompted, Fenrir walks over to Bael'waag's "remains" and wrenches the massive hand off of the cleaver in one swift motion, shredding the frog's hand to bits that dissolve and fade away. He tests the weight of the fallen sword for a moment, the blade alone larger than anyone present. Finding it satisfactory, he lifts it overhead with one hand and is flooded with a surge of golden energy, his own outline beginning to shimmer and waver as Bael'waag's did, an illusionary copy flickering in and out of the host. The shadow of a whole and intact Bael'waag looms over Fenrir for a moment before fading.

quote:

Bael'waag, Cruel Lord of the Hunt (Tower)
First son of a Great King of Fey, Bael'waag is an arrogant and spiteful creature that shuns his inherited title. He lives only to hunt down and slay prey he considers worthy and has been known to drive entire species to extinction over decades. Massive, fat and powerful, his vicious tools alone make him the match of an army but he also carries the blessing of the Frog that Sees Beyond the Well, enabling him to perceive simultaneous timelines. He uses this talent to stay ahead of his prey, overwhelm his enemies and to even cheat death, evading paths that lead him to meet the Reaper.
Beyond the Well(???)
Overwhelming Strike (???)
Slaughter (???)
Rain of Hell(???)
Resists: ???
Weakness: ???

: "Excellent!" Fenrir basks in the power of the blade for a moment before sheathing it at an angle along his back.

"EHEM!" A loud voice suddenly cuts in and you can already feel the sting of irritation rising as you recognize the source.

: Weasel sounds about as nasally and obliviously wretched as you can imagine a person being. "Nyeeeeehhhh, fellas! Don't you think some of this sweet loot should go around???" The wiry little guy has joined your circle, an Assassin-Rogue hybrid who clearly makes some outlandish build choices with his off-spec Marking antics during the battle.

You suddenly feel as though the air has become a lot heavier.

: "Bishop, invite me back in a second." Before anyone can acknowledge or react, Fenrir drops party and his name-plate flares to a violent red as his PvP tag switches on! He immediately charges and bull rushes Weasel towards the nearest wall, cratering him into it!

: "Ehh, come on Ambrose, ignore that. He's always like this! Oooh, I think we've got just the piece for you." Her books drift to the sides as Isabelle offers you loot from this world first kill! The joy and prestige of such a thing pushes the bloody beating Weasel is receiving from your mind for a moment...

: Charlotte types in some encouragement. "You enabled our victory. Take it." She gives you a little smile, the sound of metal and stone warping and breaking behind her.

quote:

Bladed Bolter Bandolier

The heavy belt of bolter cartridges the Cruel Lord uses. His machines seem to breath with life of their own and act off their master's intent, bleeding out targets under overwhelming fire.

Waist Slot
Passive: +1 AC, +1 Fortitude
Daily(Free Action): Spawns a Bolter within Range 5 that has a Range 8 Attack. The Bolter can fire up to Three times, Once per Round. The Bolter will fire upon your current Marked target, using your Attack Modifier and dealing 1/2 of your 1[W] + Primary(Basic Melee or Ranged Stats.) The Bolter will die to any 2 Hits(Minion Rules) and has your Defenses.

Everything has gone silent for a moment, then somebody warps in, materializing with the other [ORDER] faithful.

Bishop

: A complicated and totally inhuman Avatar, Bishop's character model has an amazing amount of detail in it. Almost as if the entire apparatus would work if reproduced in real life. He gestures to the side and Fenrir's nameplate returns to an Ally's Teal as he rejoins the group. To the side, Weasel's nameplate is fading, shifted from a Teammate's Blue to a Neutral Yellow as he is booted from the group. "Ah, Ambrose. Well done! No plan survives contact with the enemy, thus I greatly admire your swift reactions!"

Isabelle and Bishop beckon over the rest of the trials, passing out two other pieces of loot. One of the Leaders, the Rune-Priest that backed you, and one of the Strikers, the Oni Girl that fought with you receive loot as well. They're also just trials.

: "Ah, now. Ambrose, would you like to join the Order of the Divine Way?"

Noriko (Student Council Meeting)

"i'll take a look." She takes the slip of paper and tucks it in her bag. Noriko stays quiet for the most part until the meeting adjourns, and then heads home.

Noriko // Memento-Mori (Saturday Night)

Wrapping herself in a blanket, Noriko has a seat in her chair and pulls on her headset. Snapping the cable in place, the display boots up and she logs into the game world.

The world phases in around her and she feels her anxiety lift away, feeling safe in the space, and for a change, comfortable in her skin. She looks down at her pallid, cold hands and runs them through her dry and brittle hair for a few moments before tying it into a fishtail braid, feeling a wistful longing for nights spent with her sisters and a pang of grief she tried quickly to push aside. The loneliness got to her some nights, and her family just seemed to add to her melancholy, so she decided to seek the comfort of conversation with strangers. (looking for a social contact)

Noriko (Sunday Morning)

Noriko wakes to the glint of sunlight through a gap in her drawn curtains, glaring at the light with contempt for a few minutes before drearily pulling herself up to a sitting position. She sat there for a long while, gathering her strength and processing the night. Normal dreams. No velvet room. No demons. She didn't feel the need to write any of it down. Eventually, she crawls out of bed and begins to dig through a stack of her boxes, tossing out a few garments onto her unmade bed. Old clothes, not at all the most recent fashions, but worn together? She tried on a few different things before settling on something she thought looked cute.

She'd spent most of her time inside over the break, and school's interruption to her routine left her feeling rather cramped in the apartment this morning. She joins her family for breakfast if they're eating, but she resolves to spend her day out and about, even if she didn't have any firm plans. Maybe she'd run into some friends?

Takashi

Saturday - Student Council:
Raising his hand near after most others, Takashi says, "I'll volunteer, Hattori-senpai. Track or social outreach. Whatever you think needs the recruiting help." He smiles in that trademark Takashi way, disarming and easygoing.

---

Saturday - Night:
Having spent his fortune at the end of the Ruins, Takashi decides to fill up .attak's coffers again by grinding out some cash. The time also pulls double duty getting used to his new load out!

---

Sunday - Morning:
Rising early for a quick, healthy breakfast Takashi hits the weights and gets a leisurely 15K run in before most people wake. After a shower and a cooldown he's ready to face the day proper.

If Izumi is ready for tutoring assistance, he'll help, but otherwise today is the perfect day to get outdoors and volunteer!

Tsukiyo

"Oh, hm." Tsukiyo looks a bit distracted by a second. "Well, Grandma actually asked me to invite you to visit our home so you could sleep there tonight. I can put on an extra futon in my bedroom or something."

Saturday Night

Tsukiyo spends the night chatting with Miho and playing board games with her. She tries to get some more information on the bullies who attacked her as well.

Sunday Morning.

"So, huh, you want me to escort you to your home?" Tsukiyo asks while eating her breakfast. "I can do that and then do morning practice when I return home."

Akio

After School

"Um, I'm Yamamura Akio. I thought I said so already..." Akio is a bit thrown off by Miho's question and his demeanor loses its severity. "I'm a classmate of Tsukiyo's. She was showing me and Itsumi there around Naoki since it's our first day here. That's when we found you... And there's really nothing brave about it, I'm just fed up with bullies who like to ruin others lives for no reason."

Saturday Night

When Akio finally gets home he heads straight to his room, shuts the door, puts on his headphones and sits down with a few textbooks to catch up on his studies. He can't help but smile to himself as he's jotting down some notes. His first day at school had been pretty good after all, maybe this year wouldn't be as bad as he first thought.

Sunday

Akio wakes up late in the morning after finally catching up on some overdue sleep and lazily stretches his arms while lying in his bed, yawning so heavily he almost unhinges his jaw. Ah, Sunday, glorious Sunday. What to do...

He sits up and looks around his room, at his pile of books and his PC. Hmm... Well, he could stay at home and endure Hanae's opressive presence all day, or he could do something that wasn't a total pain. After looking outside the window and noticing the pleasant April weather it was perhaps the easiest choice he's ever made.

Well outside the door Akio stops, looking a bit lost. He still had no idea what there was to actually do in the neighborhood, he pretty much only knew how to get to school and that's about it. He picks a direction at random and starts walking, deciding that taking a walk would be the best way to get acquainted with the area.

Ambrose

Etemenanki

Ambrose accepts Bishop's praise with a sincere bow. "My thanks. I've learned from the very best." As he rises he throws a glance at Charlotte and nods respectfully. He would not have come this far in such short time without her posts on class theory.

And then the subject suddenly changes to the heart of the matter, the true goal of his trip to Etemenanki. Guild membership in the elite Order of the Divine Way! Was it really within his grasp? He could feel butterflies flit around in his belly.

"Of course!" he replies eagerly, "There is no other guild I'd prefer to join."

Tsuki diligently raises her hand. "Hey, er, Tsukiyo Chaves. I'm volunteering for help with the Festival. But regarding that last part... Isn't it a better idea to know from which school those bullies are and report them?" Unfortunately she's not feeling like becoming a sukeban, especially with all this stuff around Miho lately.

: "We do know which school they are from. As I said, I would like to confront the delinquents and settle the matter conclusively... reporting them will likely embolden them after some slap on the wrist punishment." Takano turns her head up a bit and crosses her arms, smirking. "And this is something we should be able to do for the pride of our school. Maybe I'll do it myself later..." Some concerned voices rise but nobody has any better idea or desire to volunteer.

Takashi: Takano is pleased by your offer but you catch critical sidelong looks every so often during presentation.

Itsumi: Your presence at the Council Meeting attracts the attention of an old friend and a new one...

The School Council Meeting soon ends.

Saturday Night

Akio: Diligence nets you +1 Academics. Once your work is done you can play all day tomorrow!

Tsukiyo: Delighted beyond words that you were already thinking of inviting her, Miho is thrilled to accept your invitation. Grandmother is happy to welcome one of your "rare friends" and Big Brother is out for the night. Miho seems to be diverting every time you ask about the bullies. Disaster threatens to strike as you're cleaning up a shogi board.

: "Ehhh, Tsuki! You've got a really nice computer! And is that a VR set?!"

Takashi: You make an efficient loop of slaughtering belligerent fat lizard monsters in an oasis mindscape, yielding 330 Gold and a pair of Croc Steaks(Use Minor, consume a surge to heal 4 HP and gain DR 2 UEONT.) Things are quiet tonight online!

Noriko: (Wrapping up Saturday so I'll just give you a reminder of a possible contact that was lost earlier.) You find yourself pulling up an old RP Community reference the crazy little rabbit-dragon told you about once..

"Old Post posted:

Ryuka: You decide to enter the place. The one you've read about for months. The forum you've lurked for nearly a year. This is it. This is what you've been polishing your RP profile for.

You enter Brightscale Academy. The communal Mindscape of the Brightscale Magician's Circle, or <BRIGHT>, the guild that pools resources to make one large neutral Mindscape modeled after a wizard school college RP with houses based on the bloodlines of the Dragons, split between Chromatic and Metallic. To say there are many large cliques constantly butting heads over who is most important is an understatement. There are at least 12 base ones before you factor in the academy staff.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?

quote:

Student Council Meeting

Joining the in progress meeting after the tour and the run in with Miho, you find the entire affair to be... as expected. A Super Type A personality is telling others what to do. Luckily the more rigid and formal cliques tend to cast long shadows, and she's a Senpai anyway. If little Ryuka is your only competition in homeroom, the class is already yours.

And seated at the opposite end of the table near the head is a tall, twitchy looking boy with glasses. Miyagawa Tadao, the brains to Madoka's brawn. You can tell by his expression that he is paying extra close attention to Hattori-senpai's speech, but he breaks that concentration to wave you over. He's sitting with a few others.

: Itsumi quietly heads over to Tadao and sits down next to him. She whispers, "Hey Tadao, sorry, there was a... situation we had to attend to on our way. So what's up?"

: Tadao whispers back to you, clearly on edge. He's always ready to move when new data is introduced to his "popularity system dynamics." "Itsumi, this is no time to get distracted! High School is the big league! I've already heard there are gangs in this school, on top of the ferocious clique demographics!"

Naturally, Hattori-senpai introduces the issue of gangs from another school bothering Naoki students. And you did just meet Miho in a supply closet...

: Itsumi whispers back to Tadao, "I know it's not... it was for a good reason. Just listen!" Itsumi then gently raises her hand before speaking up, "Hattori-senpai, my sincere apologies for arriving late to the meeting, but I believe I have seen first hand the results of one of these gangs you speak of. Some students here and I found one of our classmates stuffed in a supply closet held shut by a chair and caution tape while touring the school on our way to this meeting."

: The meeting is briefly disrupted as Takano calls for "Quiet." and hears you out... with a bit of concern she speaks again. "Could you tell me about this after meeting? Your information can bring them to justice." A taller boy sitting beside Tadao at the head of the table raises a hand, getting the room's attention.

: "Takano, I'll handle this. Please, continue." The handsome boy whispers to Tadao: "I was wondering when you were going to introduce me to your cute friend..."

: A bit red in the cheeks, Tadao whispers to you! "This is Ichiro, an upperclassman and the student council treasurer."

: Itsumi nods in respose, "Certainly I will." She then turns to Ichiro, internally very slightly offended, but not showing it "Hi Ichiro~ I'm Itsumi! It's such a pleasure to meet you!"

: Ichiro smiles warmly. "Ah, I'd heard somebody was brightening up the new homeroom... I see what they mean." He nods to Tadao, who looks away.

: Itsumi twists her head and shoots a quick glance at Tadao. "Why thank you Ichiro!" Itsumi says, blushing. "So you're the treasurer? That's so interesting! It can't be an easy job, I'm sure."

: "Ah, it's nothing really. Just simple math. Nah, the real hard part is helping the council. I take it pretty seriously..." Ichiro leans back a bit and puffs up with some pride. "Solving problems, quick diplomacy... recruitment. That sorta thing."

: "That does sound hard, but it sounds great too! I can't believe you get to do that! I hope to be on the council when I'm able too!"

: "Why hope? Itsumi, I'd like to talk to you about what you saw today... but more than that, I'd like to pick your brain. Seems like you'd be a perfect fit for the Council, really." He looks across the table to more stirring and dauntless leadership, chuckles and then gives you a confident eye to eye look. "Would you like to get some coffee together tomorrow?"

: "I do? Thank you so much for the compliment! I'd love to join you for coffee tomorrow!"

: Ichiro beams. "Great. I know this charming little place..." He gives you an address in a nice part of the city.

: "Sure, that sounds wonderful! What time should I meet you??"

: "Around noon."

: "Great! I'll see you there~"

Sunday

Meeting Ichiro at the corner street cafe, you can get drinks served in the cool spring breeze. Even on his time off Ichiro is dressed almost as sharply as he was in his school uniform, instead wearing nice semi-casual dress clothes. He gives you a friendly wave over as you arrive and stands to pull out your chair.

: Itsumi arrives wearing her cutest outfit and smiles brightly as Ichiro waves her over. She thanks him for pulling her seat and sits down in her chair. "Hi Ichiro! How are you doing today?"

: Ichiro sits and orders a drink without checking the menu. The server waits for your order as well before departing and Ichiro grins. "It's the kind of day that makes you happy to be alive."

: Itsumi scans the menu and decides to order a latte before responding, "That sounds great!"

: Tapping a finger along the table-top, Ichiro nods. "Mmhmm. You know, I got a friend in my class, kinda funny, loses his head in the clouds a lot. Likes to talk about nature and stuff... and he's spot on, you know." He straightens up and pulls his seat forward. "How the most venomous creatures are usually the prettiest."

: Itsumi straightens up in response "Oh, are they? That's good to know. Did you invite me out for a biology lession today then?" she says pointedly.

: "That's not my club." Drinks are served and Ichiro sips from a darling latte where the foam has been used to draw a cat face. Your own cup forms a little rose. "You know, it takes a lot of effort to drive somebody to change schools mid year." He sets his cup down, the cute cat face gone forever. "Just to get away from you."

: She smirks softly. "Well... it takes a lot of effort to drive me to that point, too."

: "I dunno about that... how did it go, exactly? She was in your way, and that was the best solution?" You flashback to Tadao saying the same thing two years ago: "She's in the way, and this is the best solution!" Ichiro sips from his cup again and looks awfully smug... "Quite a way to go to be popular, huh."

: Itsumi tilts her head for a second recalling Tadao's words. She makes a mental note of it and decides to have A Talk with him after this meeting. She then gives Ichiro a soft smile, masking a rising anger. She nods, "That it is. I'm sure you're not unblemished either. Now is there something I can do for you, Ichiro-kun?"

: Ichiro grins, brazenly, proudly. "Well, I asked you here to see if you'd join the Student Council, right?" He sips again, then leans back, casually tilting the cup from side to side to swish what remains. "I think it'd be in your best interest. You'd be really helpful, you know. Always need capable people, Takano likes to delegate. So do I." He stops the cup and tilts it forward, bringing the remaining liquid juuuust to the point of spilling. "And well, I know you're good for a lot of things."

: "And if you don't want to, that'll keep my plate pretty full. It's hard work, being treasurer. Might forget to not tell folks about Kasaya Itsumi, a real viper in a skirt."

: Itsumi grins; she's still getting the result she wanted, even if it's not the way she had intended. "Why thank you for your offer, I do believe I'll take you up on it. I did in fact want to be on the council anyway, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to try and blackmail me."

: Ichiro pulls the cup back and takes another sip. "Oh? Really? You're not the type to envy the top?"

: She looks him in the eyes. "I'm smart enough to know when to make moves and when not to."

: He closes his eyes to finish the drink, opening one to peer over the cup. "Hmm. Well, at least you'll make a good lackey... but I didn't need to blackmail you just to get you on the Council, you know."

: Itsumi, knowing that playing the game here will help her more than fighting it, makes a mental note. She hated being called a lackey, but she realizes that she's not in a position to outwardly object... yet. she'll find a way to get out from under him sooner rather than later. "I know that... so what was the blackmail for then?"

: Ichiro sets his cup down and grins stupidly. He sets an elbow on the table and leans forward, chin set on raised hand. "You're really my type. And I don't like uncertain things..."

: "Oh, why thank you. What would you like me to do about this uncertainty then?"

: Your nonplussed nature seems like it might be an unexpected tip to the balance of power here, but Ichiro matches it. "Ah, I'll think about it, you know? I'm sure we'll see a lot of each other over the year." The bill arrives and he passes it to you, underpaying on his part of it. He rises to leave. "Catch you later, Itsumi."

: Itsumi smiles "Bye!" she pays the rest of the bill and leaves. She goes home planning to ream Tadao out the next chance she gets.

She furrows her brow and goes home seething mad both about the blackmail and about Tadao seemingly disclosing information on her to him. She also begins plotting information on how to get back at Ichiro for this. She sits down at her desk picks up a red pen and snaps it in half, sending bright red ink dripping down her hands as though it were blood.

Itsumi: Indignant rage burns as you plot your revenge. It's said that in true anger a person can see only red and their target... the edges of your vision blur with static before the air cracks for a moment. Time hits a stand-still for just a moment as you reach an epiphany, then immediately resumes as your vision clears.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
Sunday

Noriko: You join Mother and Grandmother in the living room to eat, both of them immediately focusing on you as you enter.

: "Good morning, dear. You look very charming this morning!"

: "You're adorable, Noriko. Are you going out?"

: "Do you need some money? Are you meeting with a friend?"

: Grandmother chuckles. "With this much effort, is it a boyfriend?"

: Mother covers her mouth. "Oh my... be home by dark, please."

Truly there is nothing worse to endure than a peanut gallery! Resolved to spend your day out and about, you finish breakfast and head for the door, startled by an immediate loud awkward knock as you reach it. There's nothing to do but open it! Standing at the door is Akane, trading in her school uniform for a pair of shredded black jeans and a tight black shirt with the ferocious graphic of a charging truck. Under the image is the brutal epitaph of "LIKE A TRUCK, BERSERKER!!!"

: "Oh! Hi, Noriko! Uh, I was thinking, uh, and I was out here and all, yeah, that maybe you'd wanna go out today?" Some murmuring comes from the peanut gallery behind you and Akane starts for a second before correcting herself. "I mean hang out!"

Takashi:You offer to tutor Izumi and the others today but are met with a resounding silence and disappointed looks from your two youngest cousins. Hanamako points out to you that you won't get much done while new cartoons are on.

Volunteering it is! One of your familiar groups is happy to see you and points you towards grounds maintenance work in an old playground. Spending your day doing hands on repair work, cleaning out overgrown weeds and raking through sand to remove broken glass may not be everybody's idea of fun, but it's certainly a good source of community pride! Your tendency to arrive early has you working alone at first but eventually a few other adults join you... and one school age girl. You recognize the little spaghetti girl's friend from your class, the natural beauty Hiroko.

: "Oh! Hello, uhm... Takashi-kun!" Hiroko joins you, wearing some overalls over an old graphic shirt with the faded image of a winking kitten. With a veteran worker's gusto she helps you haul some trash bags. "I didn't know you volunteered!"

Itsumi: After clearing an angry head you decide to put all this free time to use in DDW. You log in and receive a few friendly greetings from your guildies, being a member of [Ailuridae], or The Red Panda Appreciation Society. A cute, harmless little name for a semi-competent friendly guild that helps and hosts newbies and veterans alike. It's the perfect cover.

Inside of your own personal Velvet Room, a loading area/recuperating space instanced away from the rest of the servers, your attendant notifies you that you've received mail! It is from Takamura, a boorish Monk player who at least does reliable DPS and has a certain rough charm about him. He also never turns down a chance to rumble in PvP with you... you haven't seen him in awhile. Inside of the mail is a token for your choice of one item

All: Mask of the Guilty Corpse

A somber red mask depicting a bloody skull, cracked and frayed.

Head Slot
Passive: Choose a Skill Focus Feat and gain it while wearing the Mask.
Daily(Free Action): Summons a 1/1 Minion Skeleton within Range 3. The Skeleton has Speed 4 and cannot fight. If summoned in Combat the Skeleton will activate your Second Wind for you. If summoned outside of Combat the Skeleton is a mundane servant.

OR

Controller/Leader Only: Mask of the Dancing Sprite

An elegant white porcelain mask depicting perfect joy.

Head Slot
Daily(Free Action): Creates a 1/1 + 1/1 Minion Wisp within Range 3. The Wisp has Fly 5 and will use one of your At Will Powers once per turn as Physical Damage. Wisp Powers always deal Half Damage before being applied to DR/Insubstantial/Etc. Wisps always have AC/F/R/W 10 + 1/2 your Level. Wisps have no MBAs or functions beyond echoing this attack and use your Attack/Damage and other stats in most cases.

: "Hey Kiddo, I found an openin' in [ORDER]'s armor. Me and some new scrubs hit it up and made out pretty alright and got a little extra loot. Made me think of ya. Let's use these to roll some guys sometime."

Tsukiyo: (Saturday): Miho accepts your deflection and you two have a friendly sleepover. It's hard to find anything that fits your taller friend!

: (Sunday) In the morning Miho seems more relaxed, a good night's sleep and your companionship doing wonders for her usual nervous demeanor. Something is clearly on her mind as she sits up with a start over your words at breakfast. "Ah, Tsuki..." She fiddles with her spoon. "It's Sunday..." She looks away in all directions, trying to gather her words. "Shouldn't we, er... hang out?!" She looks a bit red. "... I can catch the last train of the day..."

Akio: Deciding to let the day take you where it may, you head out and wander about the city, ignoring any drat family on your way out. Kobe and the adjacent Tatsumi Port Island are large modern cities and you're sure something will stick out to you...

Almost predictably you find yourself stepping into a large arcade. The top of the line facility has all the latest games and several outstanding-looking gimmicky ones, with rows of racing games set up allowing for 8 player competition and at least two dozen joined twin units to let fighting gamers go head to head. Cute dolls and expensive electronics call out from beneath the jaws of crane games.

You're wondering if you might make a friend today that isn't an idiot, hooligan or goof... well, the day is still young. (Your choice of Skill to go with what you start doing. Be creative/stretch. Alternate Skill Use Refresher in the OOC OP.)

Kasaya Itsumi

Itsumi shoots a quick, terse text to Tadao, "We need to have a chat," before logging into DDW.

Seeing the message in her inbox after logging in brings a small smile to her face. "Thank you so much Takamura-kun! We should go for a rumble sometime soon, it's been a while :(."

Itsumi chooses the Mask of the Guilty Corpse with her loot token.

Akio

Sunday - Arcade

Akio has a silly smirk on his face as he stands at the entrance of the arcade, taking in the full sensory overload that was the atmosphere of the place. The myriad of technicolor lights flashing, the blaring cacophony of sound effects and music coming from the arcade cabinets, the faint scent of pungent nerd-sweat intermingling with undertones of greasy junk food and burnt circuitry in the surprisingly well-ventilated air. This place was amazing!

Okay! Where to begin? Fighting games? Maybe later, that scene has always been a bit too weird. Tetris? No, that one he should keep in the back pocket until the time was right. So what else... Akio's eyes land on the dance platform game in the center of the room. That's weird, how come it's empty? That game is usually really crowded! Well, there's no better game to get yourself warmed up!

Akio walks up to the platform with a confident swagger and steps up on the pad and begins browsing through the songs. "Easy, easy, all too easy. Where have they hidden the songs that aren't for babies? Ah, that's better." He finds the fastest, most difficult song in the game and hits go. Time to show who owns this place.

DDR!: 1d20+12 F-f-fumble!

The first arrow comes flying at the top of the screen at a blinding speed but Akio sees it coming from a mile away and he brings his foot down on the pad in perfect sync. He could feel the rhythm of the song blend with his very soul in perfect harmony, he was one with the game. Angels would cry at his flawless performance. The tale would be told for hundreds of years, this is how legends are born. This may just be the one moment his entire life was- OH GOD WHY IS THERE ABSOLUTELY NO FRICTION ON THE DANCE PAD!

His foot shoots out from under him and he slams into the safety bar behind him with such force that he rebounds off it, throwing him straight into the game cabinet, face first! Suddenly he's on the ground and his entire world is pain. He covers his aching face with his hands and groans audibly. "Whyyy..." A solid minute passes before he pulls his hands from his face to take a look at the cold and unfair world he lived in through his now tear-filled eyes. Yep, that was definitely blood. Why the hell wouldn't they put up a warning sign... Oh. There it is. He must've walked right past it. Slippery when wet. Yep. Maybe he should just stay on this floor for the rest of the day...

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
Itsumi: Takamura hasn't been online for six days straight. Unusual. He likes to idle and shoot the poo poo in chat, always talking about idiotic ideas, mundane physical labor and lewd nonsense. Your text to Tadao gets a text in reply quickly, as expected. Tadao can't let anything wait.

: "Itsumi, you deserve an explanation, but that's all you get. You, me and Madoka have been friends for awhile, sure, but I wanted more. I mean, I'm entering high school and I'm just the hanger-on for two girls! Statistically that's social death!"

"I sniffed out some big fish, but I know how you get. It's a clean break I wanted, so I... went to Ichiro first. He said I knew how to be useful, so here we are."

"I'm sorry Itsumi."

"I know what I did means our friendship is over. We do what we have to to get ahead, right? It's what you always said."

Your mobile is silent. You could respond to Tadao... but you've also got a message from some guildies. Hound and Raccoon, two veteran members. With Takamura(Hawk) they're always up for PvP with you... it'd be a fun way to get your mind off things.

After all, you could see Tadao face to face tomorrow at school.

Akio: As you lie on the top of your wet metallic coffin, head aching painfully, you can see it now. Here Lies Akio's Social Life, 2026-2026. RIP. It'll be the talk of the school. Hell, you're not even at school. It'll be the talk of the town. The whole city! A sprawling metropolis, a legend spanning from one tip of Japan to the other...

"Hey, buddy. Were you just gonna die down there?" Opening your eyes you see two young men standing by the dance pad, looking down at you. An effeminate blonde foreigner looks scandalized that you've perished in such a way and beside him is a lanky but fit looking boy whose facial expression seems secondary to the tidy uniform cap covering his eyes. He offers you a hand up.

: "Come back to life, yeah? Most of these kids wouldn't pick that song in the first place."

: "Hmm.. who dares win, hai?" The other boy is a bit over-dressed for an arcade, but seems relaxed and friendly. And at least sounds definitively male.

: "You fight as good as you dance? Er, wait a sec, uh, I mean." After helping you up he gestures to some machines to the side. "Look, I'm Kane and he's Felix. Lemme show you this one about fighting witches." The two invite you to some rounds of Hex Maidens 3: Alchemical Love on the the back-to-back dual machines.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
(And wrapping up Etemenanki.)

(I know my absences have been lousy and Plutonis is traveling, but I still want to get a better pace going. I'll be ending the Sunday scenes on Friday and trying a faster pacing, maybe alternating my idea with the slower day-by-day social scenes. Any which way... sorry if I'm absent or burnt out, but hopefully when I'm here I can get some posts, please!)

quote:

Etemenanki

Hovering around you and the other two, the Runepriest and the Oni, Bishop and Isabelle take their time targeting each of you and presumably Inspecting you. You know that Gear, Levels and Stats are being considered, though you also know you wouldn't have joined this raid without already having that little something.

: Isabelle sets multiple quills to animated writing, breaking the silence first. "You really think you're a world first talent?"

: Ambrose looks at her with confidence, feeling emboldened by the victory. "I've already got one world first kill under my belt. It certainly wasn't just me, of course, but I don't think I was simply being carried either. I'll only get stronger from here on."

: Whirring and clicking, Bishop stops at Isabelle's side and raises a finger to point something out in one of the floating books. The eerie lights cast from his eyes fall upon Ambrose's face. "A good point well made. It sounds like you're familiar with how top end guilds recruit. Finding a spontaneous talent... it's rare. Even rarer is that they can arm themselves solo, or by running with unqualified guilds. Rarest of all is that they might whip any group of randoms into a proper raiding team."

: A split second of desync lag hits as the sounds of Fenrir's combat fade and with it, Weasel logs out. Fenrir slowly steps over to join the rest of you, looking the three over. "These the new seeds?"

: Ambrose feels some relief at Bishop's words, but he tries to avoid showing it and the sense of trepidation he felt deep inside. "I've done my homework... Though I didn't quite expect my trial run to be in a raid that was just released, and one whose minimum level was several levels above my own. For a while I thought you were setting me up to fail, but I guess you just wanted to push us to the limit." He nods approvingly at Fenrir as he joins them, thoroughly enjoying how he dealt with Weasel. "Ready to sprout."

: Isabelle takes one of her floating tomes with both hands and personally scans over what was written, then closes it shut. "Well, you're an investment now... but there's still a bit more to do."

:The Runepriest and the Oni share a look and step forward together. "We're ready for it! "We can do it!"

: Ambrose remains in his place, scanning Isabelle's face. "And that is?"

: Isabelle puts on a polite smile. All business. "I hope you won't think I'm asking you to do anything untoward. Recently there have been some players that are trying to strike at the Order, to take what is ours." She raises both index fingers to either side of her mouth and mimes pulling her tight-lipped smile open to a teeth-baring grin. "Are you up for a bit of spying?"

: Ambrose frowns. Spying? This he had not seen coming, and it was certainly not what he had signed up for. But it's not like he had a choice. "If that is what it takes to secure my membership... I'm guessing it won't be very easy to do any spying with your guild tag next to my name, right? How long will this take?"

: Isabelle seems amused by your reaction and leans her head forward a bit, hands behind her back now, book flying back to it's position by her side as she affects a new tight-lipped smile. "I'd say the average bond is forged over the course of a month. We'll just need you to join and play with the target for about that long... and report anything unusual you hear."

: Fenrir crosses his arms and just looms in general, his voice immediately silencing the other two protesting. "We already have the world's best. You need to show you're useful in many ways. And you need to show loyalty first. We're still doing you a favor, just being in this place!"

: Suddenly quieted himself, Fenrir steps back to avoid overshadowing Charlotte, who raises a hand to "speak" before typing. "This is an important task. There are other players testing our defenses. Order hosts many Mindscapes... there is benefit to doing so. But also risk. You will help us minimize that risk."

: Ambrose remains silent for moment and looks off to the side, contemplating, then looks back to Charlotte and nods solemnly. "Very well, I accept. An odd way of fulfilling my duties as a defender to be sure, but in a way I suppose I'm still serving my role, proteceting the guild. You will find no reason to question my loyalty. So. Who is my target, who do you want me to spy upon?"

: Isabelle pops up in front of you again, wagging a finger. "There's some things to set up. We'll be in touch." The bookish mage offers you a friend invite. "Just think of it as the price of doing business."

Charlotte and Bishop bid you and the other two respectful farewalls. Fenrir just leaves as things finish.

: Isabelle dismisses all of her books and straightens up, pressing her wrists together and drumming her fingertips along one another. "Well then, have a pleasant evening!" Her swirling black outfit expands a bit to engulf her entirely before the whole thing winks out of existence.

: The Runepriest and the Oni look to each other and than to Ambrose. "Well." "Er..." "Guess we're in this together." "Stay in touch, OK?" They offer you friend invites as well.

: Ambrose accepts all friend invites and speaks to the Runepriest and Oni after the others leave. "Something feels off... It might be an idea for us to share whatever we find out with each other, maybe we can piece together the bigger picture before the month is over." He shrugs and turns to leave, not sure what to think of what just happened. "See you later."

"Oh?" Tsuki smiles, scratching her head. "Hm, any place in mind? We could go watch a movie nearby, there's..." Tsukiyo almost stops herself before suggesting 'Wohn Jick 5: Dogvenger', the incredibly violent and explosive new action movie, and instead... "There's... A new romance movie they released. Classroom of Secrets?"

Takashi

Sunday - Morning:
Working his way through tasks, Takashi is surprised to find anyone his age here, and it probably shows in his expression. "Hi! I didn't know you volunteered Hiroko-chan! Ryuku's friends never struck me as the volunteer spirit type," and realizing that sounds a bit cruel, "but I'm glad I'm wrong." He works silently for a while, repairing some small damaged pieces of playground equipment with supplies donated by locals, and other good citizens.

"When we're done here, do you want to go grab a bite to eat somewhere? It's such a rare thing to see anyone our age out here, and I'd love to get to know a new friend."

Noriko manages a slight smile at the compliments from her family, nodding to her grandmother before having a seat. "yes, i've been inside a lot lately, i thought it might be nice to go out today. I haven't really made big plans, it's nothing serious, i just... wanted to look nice today." she does her best to evade any serious lines of questioning through the rest of breakfast before making her way to the door. She flinches a little at the abrupt knock, before carefully opening the door, blinking in surprise at Akane. "Oh...? Akane!" she smiles. "you have really good timing. let's go do something."

Sunday - Arcade

"Maybe staying dead wouldn't be so bad... At least the constant flow of embarrassments would stop..." Akio sighs and reluctantly takes the offered hand and picks himself off the floor. "Ow, my knee hurts. Thanks."

"Fighting witches, hmm?" He had a pretty good idea of which game Kane was talking about. Of all the games to challenge the dreaded 'Black Mage of Kobe' himself to... "Sure, why not, lead the way. Name's Akio by the way."

Well in front of the game machine Akio does some quick finger exercises to loosen them up. His face still ached but at least his hands had been spared. He leans to the side and nods to Kane on the other machine as the character select screen pops up. "Good luck. Felix faces the winner?" He returns to his screen and selects the tiny little witch with the large black hat, known for her quick movement speed and devastating magical combo attacks. Hubris may have already struck him down once today, but if Kane or Felix managed to land a single hit he would be seriously impressed. His face splits into a predatory grin. This was going to be a slaughter.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
Sunday

Akio: Mad Hatter is always a risky choice... the elusive little dark gnome takes nearly 1.5x damage from all attacks and is considered punishing to learn for all stripes of players. Kane looks a bit surprised, his hat lifted slightly by his raised eyebrows. "Tough guy still, huh..." He selects Baba Yaga, the slow-but-monstrous hyper-armor heavy-hitter. As the gorgeous 2D sprite-work fills in for the Swamp of Sinking Doubt and the mythical chicken-leggged walking house marches through the background as scenery, your two characters square off. The two-foot tall(three with the hat) midget hexer vs the iron grandmother, a towering figure with hands breaking off into horrible bleeding metal talons. A few combos would spell disaster.

If they hit. Within a minute you've bodied Kane twice and the yowling of the Cat Familiar announcer rings: "Perfect! Nyaaa!!!" Baba Yaga collapses with a small cratering graphic that shakes the screen, Mad Hatter's victory animation #3 of a deep blush followed by pulling her hat down over her entire body playing! Kane is gawking without shame.

: "B-bakana..."

: "Baka is right. Allow me!" Felix steps up and gives you a friendly grin as he selects a shrine maiden character with a mixed motif of snow and ninjitsu, a clashing of all things popular culture from Japan. Your two characters spawn atop Mt Fuji during a blizzard and prepare to fight...

Felix gives you Hell! (30!)

At the end of the day the three of you end up hitting it off and noting that you all go to the same school. And despite your initial head trauma, you leave the arcade feelings like the King of the Little Witches, winning the best of three each time against all comers.

Tsukiyo: : You almost see disappointment on Miho's face, but it's soon gone as she smiles sympathetically. "Classroom of Secrets? I had no idea you were into that kind of thing, Tsuki..."

Grandmother has a pretty coy smile on her face when you tell her what you're seeing and passes you some extra cash to enjoy yourselves. It's actually pretty annoying and is the sort of look you'd expect from your brother! ... Classroom of Secrets is about what you expect. There's a very pretty boy and a very plain girl and a second very pretty but slightly rougher boy and they both favor the girl. Things go back and forth until you've lost track of the second love triangle that erupts from a jealous ex and you're not entirely sure what the metaphor about the presences of butterflies was about but you're actually a little excited when the finale is one of the pretty boys stabbing the other in the gut... because some secrets can't be kept.

: As you leave the theater Miho seems a little amused, but not in tears like some of the other girls. Aside from young couples the only other attendants are lonely looking women. You feel a bit of a bad scene... or at least a little less like a Cool Beauty. Miho checks her pockets and produces a small plastic card adorned with the theater's mascot. "Uhm... Tsuki... there was another movie I wanted to see today, now that we saw your movie." She twiddles her fingers together and turns red in the face. "I-if you like.. this sorta thing..." Miho has a frequent viewer club card and cashes in a free ticket. As far as your own budget goes you find some extra yen past what you'd need for a ticket... Obaasan?! Were you that easy to read?!

... Won Jihck 5: Dogvenger's plot is centered around a dog show doubling as the site of an illegal weapons trade, the union workers that set up the stage in the pocket of the mafia! It's up to Won and Peter(Best In Show!) to stop them. The brave little corgi has a small mini-gun and feed built into his carrier harness with a carrying handle so that Won can pick him up(safely) and use him during the jaw-dropping gunkata action scenes.

: The two of you get out as the sun begins to set and Miho in a delighted mood, unable to contain her gushing for the movie. The day is almost over... the two of you split up as Miho heads off to catch a train. "This was really fun, Tsuki! Lets do it again sometime! I hope you liked my movie choice!" This end to the day is better than you expected! Returning home you settle in for the rest of the night, the need to maintain your image receding as you actually relax... you're barely even aware of the disturbance in the air and the faint sound of static before you turn in for the night.

Thou shalt have the blessing of the Temperance arcana...

Everyone: Your Soulshell has made a new social link, granting all Support Personas of the Temperance Arcana an additional +1 to Attack and Damage, as well as increasing Flanking/Assist Other Bonuses to +3.

Noriko: : Akane beams. "I know just the place." She waves to your family as you two head out. Walking side by side, she leans her head over to whisper conspiratorially. "Oh, is everybody in your family cute? Nice outfit, Noriko-chan." She laughs and takes the lead, beckoning to you to hurry up! "I know just the place!"

... Akane's idea of a good time is a place that specializes in being down a dark one-way alley. The home-brewed dive theater advertises "Cinema They Don't Want You To See!" and is at least dirt cheap on the ticket price, probably relying on low bills and lower overhead to operate at all. A few other outcast types are sitting in the dimly lit randomly furnished viewing room watching an indie horror film, the ham factor of the cheap effects matched only by the intensity of overacting and the zeal with which home-made blood and guts is put on display. At least that last part is done well! The public domain soundtrack and the obvious scare chords only add to the experience, really.

After that Akane suggests something a bit more sensible, "you know, like for normies, if the Chop House was a bit much, hee hee." Karaoke! Insisting that she cover all expenses, Akane invites you to a clean little karaoke place in one of the nice parts of the city. You can spend as much of the day as you like singing! If nothing else, your friend certainly will, and with a fair bit of skill at it too. Whenever the day ends the two of you end up chatting on the walk back to your place. Akane talks a bit about her family... older sister, obviously. Single mother, big political type. They don't like the Chop House. Go figure.

: "How about you, Noriko?" Your new friend trying to get to know you better... but it feels like some things are too heavy to share. Not now, maybe not ever? Maybe talking to someone other than your therapist would be a nice change... but ultimately it is your decision.

Takashi: : Despite your small faux pas, Hiroko beams at you. "I'd love to!" The two of you finish the volunteer shift, a long stretch of equipment hauling and sandbox raking. You depart with the feeling of enlightened goodness that can only come from altruistic labor... and chasing away a pair of thuggish looking cats that were eyeing the giant communal "litter box."

: "On Sundays, Mutsumi and Ryuka usually stay in..." Hiroko and you two bond and chat over lunch. "But there's something that feels so right about helping others! I always hoped they'd join me someday, but I'm happy to meet you here, Takashi-senpai!" Upon a light correction Hiroko seems shocked. "Ah! But Takashi, you're so mature! That's really amazing..."

After lunch you two head your own ways but you're confident you've made a new friend.

Itsumi: Nothing soothes misery like inflicting it upon others. It doesn't take long for you, Hound and Raccoon to join forces.

: "Oi, Diviner. A good Boof to you today." With an avatar of a hulking mastiff in full plate with a massive tower shield and a giant lance, Hound prefers perfect defensive play and never misses an opportunity to exploit a mistake. He tends to cover everyone else to the point of being hesitant and timid, though. His general lack of tact is balanced by a bleeding heart kindness and naivety.

: "How do ya do, Diviner! We're gonna wreck 'em today!" A little obese red panda dressed in a a tidy little tunic with striped pantaloons, Raccoon puts the Red Panda in Red Panda Appreciation Society. He uses bewildering totems and passive kiting play to support everyone while evading all trouble himself and tends to survive things he shouldn't. His general lack of tact is complimented by being a bit of an excitable but lovable idiot.

... With Takamura's absence you're missing your "Oni." The three of you can lock anyone down and beat them to death while surviving anything with dual Supports, but you really counted on a pure Striker like Takamura to burst things down. It's a shame, really. Everybody you catch tonight will just die in the most agonizing manner possible.

: "Dohohohohoho!" "Bahahahahahahaha!" Hound and Raccoon tend to expose that they're old timers frequently. They're probably over 30... oh well. They've also been playing DDW since launch and are perfectly reliable. You have pre-existing friend contacts with the old-timers Hound and Raccoon. (I'll add them to the list I'm making later.)

Sunday Night

All: With an open Sunday night for everybody, it's safe to assume that many of you pass by the computer sometime. Once the moon hangs in the sky and net sets in completely there's a rare sign-in that you haven't seen all week: the Guild Master of [Ailuridae]. Itsumi has only seem him come and go, generally friendly and helpful but usually soloing. Akio has just become aware of his need to join his guild. The rest of you joined recently but have never met him and you certainly can't count on Takamura to help you get acquainted.

<The> White Blade, the Guild Leader of the Red Panda Appreciation Society. He openly wears the Arcana of Justice and a golden dragon outline, signifying 21st+ Level. An avatar of a casual wandering swordsman, and the Fighter class. Everybody online has a good greeting for him and he actually individually replies to each one.

: "Ah, it's good to see everyone, but I'm afraid I've just gotten bad news. Takamura passed away last week, please PM me for details and I'll be helping to organize delivery of condolences to the family... sorry to be the bearer of bad news, everyone."

: "Hyehhhhhaahh!??! Oh! No!"

: A heavy sigh. "I am sad now."

Though it was only known to a few of you in the Soulshell that something had happened to Takamura, you still weren't sure what. A break-in gone wrong? He was dead so soon after you met him... and his girlfriend sounded hysterical. Yuki. You still had her number...

Overnight(Sunday Night)

Itsumi, Akio: You dream that you're logging in... already logged in?... to DDW, entering the pleasant shady confines of the Velvet Room, a uniquely cylindrical building of massive spaces and endless shadows where the pleasant yellow lighting is not set. The room is empty, absent of even your personal attendants. Instead a single tea table and set of chairs set for two is in the middle of the room, each of you individually experiencing your own private session. Seated at the table is the man who helped you generate your Avatar.

quote:

In the center of the room sits a strange hunchbacked man in a tidy black suit. His ears are pointed, his eyes bulging, his white hair receding and his nose enormous, nearly a foot long. He adjusts the immaculate white gloves he wears and your camera is adjusted to a sitting eye to eye level as the options for chargen spread before you, dozens of menus promising you'll spend a a pleasant hour or so here.

: "Fashionably late, are we? Might you join me for a cup of tea? It's only polite to offer enlightenment in one hand and an earthly tether in the other. Important to keep one grounded, you know." He gestures to the set of cups before him, beside which is a large metal-framed deck of cards. One of the shadows near him is suddenly a person and is serving the two of you tea, a beautiful attendant in the Velvet Room's iconic blue hues. It's only polite to reach for the offered cup. At the sight of your hand you realize you're sitting inside DDW's Velvet Room as... well... you. Not your Avatar.

:: "I think we should discuss something personal to you, if you'll bare with me." He sips at his own tea beneath his outrageous nose. "The color of your soul."

Itsumi

: "Covering yourself with quite the thick mask, I see." He picks up the deck of cards and holds one up, to show you the back. A white mask of simple and elegant design. "It is difficult to see the truth of a person. Self-reflection is as dangerous as holding one's hand to the fire to test the heat. Tends to get you burned." He effortlessly shuffles the deck and draws three cards.

"Is the mask the truth? It may not be what you always were, but perhaps what you always wanted to be. Is something inside you lighting the path ahead with the radiance of the Sun? Or maybe this is the path you choose because it beats the alternative. Maybe it will be the path you choose because as tawdry as the trappings of being good are, it's hard to beat a bit of sincerity and honesty. People liking you for yourself, your friends staying true to you, it's easier if that little bit of false hope becomes real hope inside your heart."

"After all, you've played the part of the Devil but you've yet to encounter one... until now. Maybe the mask will fool the mirror but surely your mind is forced to take a stark account of things, your values and your morals, when you realize how it looks to be... well... you. From the other side, of course. But dash it all, maybe it's good to be bad. You've heard a few fables in your time, I hope. Farmer and the Viper, Scorpion and the Frog. Is there any shame in being the true you if it's a bit poisonous? Nature made room for such creatures in a natural design."

"Or perhaps morals are just that... for the animals and those pretending to be above them. The Mask, The Darkness, The Light. They're all just tools. You'll simply make the most of your situation, overcome it and resume masterful control. After all, your life only becomes tricky when the marks become aware. Nothing ruins a good Magician's work like explaining the trick. But maybe... maybe there's true talent under it all, and you're just having trouble refining it. Absolute focus and mastery... and leave the morality to the proles."

: "Trying to make it big, hmm? The depths of Tartarus are choked with those who died trying to satisfy their pride. And don't think they succeeded with the sacrifice... it's quite rare to see a man live up to the idea of his own potential." Before you know it he's already shuffling the cards, occasionally permitting a few to flicker and vanish up his sleeves only to end up back with the rest, a full deck set before you on the table before he draws three and sets them down face up.

"Maybe you know something nobody else does. Maybe you really are right about your own potential, about your place in the world. Able to see the other side of things under the light of the Moon, total clarity afforded in darkness that blinds all... a young man, a true artisan's soul, a creative sort at heart, just waiting for his chance to show it to everyone else. Reminds me a bit of the troubles many young men experience at your age, something of a difficult in finding the self. Imagine if he was actually right about his unseen talent."

"But can self-satisfaction really stand up to the appeal of the World? To actually stand athwart the whole of history and say that "Yes, I am the best!"" To measure up to a billion billion souls from the dawn of man to his end... or perhaps his immortal twilight. A tall order. But those who stand atop the world all have one thing in common: from this perch, nothing can cast a shadow on their ambition. Mind that the shadow you cast doesn't fall too hard..."

"Feeling a bit melodramatic? It can be hard to talk about our true greatness without ending up so full of hot air." He pauses to blow some heat off of his tea. "Perhaps a bit of sensible Temperance would rein us in. Ever since the turn of the millennium many have felt that the art of humble dignity has been lost, that their is no pride in honest labor, that only the absolute less-than-one percent are worth discussing, entirely unaware of the true heroes that make any of it possible from the ground up. There are certainly worse epitaphs to earn in this life."

Noriko (Sunday Morning)

"heh, thanks." She says, smiling at the compliment. "I used to care a lot about fashion, it's good to know I still know how to dress myself." Noriko follows along on the adventure, letting Akane lead the way. "we just moved here recently, so I'm still learning what's around. i think this is the first weekend I've even left the house."

The chop House ends up being right up Noriko's alley, with the ludicrous amounts of b-movie gore and campy overacting being a nice change from the hyper-realistic films that commercial houses were putting out these days. She even manages some laughter at a particularly over the top scene near the end. "that was good! i love places like this, there's something so raw about amateur horror..."

She picks a couple of songs at karaoke and makes an effort, but she has a hard time getting over much more than a mumble. Despite her shyness, she seems to enjoy herself.

Noriko mostly listens to Akane on the way home, until she's prompted on her own family. She thinks about how to respond. "I live with my mom and my grandmother - we moved in with her just before school started. it's just us." she stops in her tracks on the sidewalk. "...can I show you something... personal? it's pretty heavy. you can say no."

She pulls out her phone and flips through a list of bookmarks in her browser, copying a link to an article on the accident to her clipboard. She glances up at Akane to make sure it's okay before she hits send.

Tsukiyo

Taken aback by the extra money, Tsukiyo tries to quietly push it back to Grandma's hand, but is denied so by the cunning old lady. "Awawa, I-I don't really think this is necessary, we're just... Oh fine." She eventually gives up and picks the money, leaving with Miho to the local theater.

Watching both movies ends up being quite a hard time for Tsuki indeed. Trying her best to not sleep on the first and to hoot and fistpump at the second, she nods at a cheerful Miho as best as she can. "Oh yeah, I had a really good time, Miho-san. I wasn't really ready for that, though, haha... In any case, you call me when you get home, ok? And tomorrow I'm gonna start working around these people who have been pestering you."

Night

"Hrm." Flagelo's avatar is silent and sullen as she is reminded of Takamura's demise a week before. She opens a private chat channel with .Attak and Memento. [...You guys heard anything from his girlfriend yet?]

Akio

Sunday - Arcade

"You're pretty drat good Felix, there were several times I thought for sure you had me." Akio grins, standing outside the arcade with the others in the gentle spring evening just before they're about to part ways. His grin turns into an apologetic smile as he looks to Kane. "Uh, you did alright too Kane... Maybe it'd help if you got some practice with the witches that aren't just about brute force? Still, thanks for helping me out, I appreciate it. I was about to write this day off and head home but instead I had a lot of fun."

"Um, I'll catch you guys at school. See ya!"

Sunday - Night

So the orders had finally come in from Isabelle. He had to spy on some guild called the Red Panda Appreciation Society. Akio had looked it up and it seemed to be a newbie friendly sorta casual guild. Why [ORDER] would be worried about them he had no clue. Nothing about the entire deal made any sense to him, it was gonna be a long month. One thing had stuck out to him when he looked into the guild, however. Takashi from his class was in it. It felt pretty skeevy to have to spy on someone he'd just met in real life, but he'd already agreed to do it. Maybe there wouldn't be much to report anyway.

He writes up an in-game mail and sends it, with some reluctance, to .attak. "Hey, it's Akio from school. I see you're in [Ailuridae], is it a nice guild? I've been looking to join one for a while but there are so many to choose from. Are there any officers online I can talk to about joining up?"

That felt pretty disgusting. Hopefully it'd be the last time he'd have to do something like that.

Sunday - Overnight

Akio slowly sips his tea, curiously watching his reflection in the cup. It felt odd to be here as himself, how had that happened? "Me, make it big? Not really, I only do what is required of me..." The reflection blurs as ripples move across the surface of the tea. "Oh, I see." Akio puts the cup down, realization dawning on his face. "You're talking about the other me who is usually in this world aren't you?"

His brow furrows in contemplation as he looks down at the cards. Something about the atmosphere put him in a pensive and mystical mood. "I'm familiar with the major arcana, but who am I meant to pick the card for? Me or me? The chasm between us is so vast... I would never even think of picking the World you offer me, but I would snatch it up without hesitation every single time. So which one is the true me?"

"On almost any other day that would've been a simple question. I would've reached for the deck and drawn the Hermit, because I would've been sure I was the real one and not the one you confused me with. But earlier today, at the arcade, and other times too now that I think about it... It felt like we bled together into one. Even 'just' being here makes me question my perception of myself. Maybe I've been thinking of this the wrong way. Can we really be different when we are the same, just viewed through a different lens?"

Akio hesitates, but eventually makes up his mind and reaches for the World and plucks it off the table. "In the World lies completeness and perfection. Maybe an odd choice for someone who feels as fractured as I do, but if I'm allowed to dream I'd like to think I'll find it at the end of the path I walk, winding and treacherous as it may be. If I manage to reach it who is to deny me the success that I've earned? And should I stumble and get lost along the way..." He turns the card upside down. "At least I'll find a familiar place where I belong in the depths of Tartarus."

Kasaya Itsumi

"Takamura...? No... but how?" Itsumi says to herself, in half a state of shock. She then sends a frantic PM to White Blade reading, "Oh my god. Do you know what happened to him?"

Overnight

Itsumi is visibly shaken by the "dream" she's experiencing. She sits silent throughout... listening to the man talk without response, trying to convince both him and herself that she's not scared and that everything is ok. If it's a dream, though, why does it feel so... real? Forcibly reflecting on her morals stings... partly because while she doesn't consider herself to be immoral, it is hard to reconcile some of the things she's done. And stranger yet, what does it mean when it's presented in the context of DDW? Is her escape more than just that?

Regardless of how creeped out she is by the dream, she felt oddly... happy..? to choose a card. After reflecting on it a few moments, she says, affecting an air of confidence, "I'll choose the sun. Thank you, sir," realizing that she may need to try to let a little more of herself out... somehow... maybe... in the least costly manner possible...

Takashi

Sunday - Midday:
Takashi is delighted to really get to know Hiroko, and when they part ways for the day, he texts her his number. "Thanks for making a morning volunteering even better than I'd hoped, Hiroko. Text me if you want to do this again sometime. Any part of it," with his signature smile, Takashi hopes she will. Noticing the time of day on his phone he apologizes quickly and runs off to catch his train!

Sunday - Evening:
While cooling off from his afternoon weights, Takashi decides to log in to DDW for a bit. Playing has been difficult ever since Takamura's sudden's disappearance, and Blade's announcement only reinforces that.

pre:
[to <The> White Blade]: Please send me the condolence details when you have them, I'd like to do something nice for the family. Thank you.
.attak collapses onto the floor in the guild common area, whimpering, before burying his snout in his paws. Takashi flips through his contact list, finds Yuki's number and sends her a quick text.

pre:
[Takashi.Kurokawa]: Yuki - this is Takashi, one of Taka's friends, me met earlier - again, you have my deepest sympathy for what has happened.
----- after a beat -----
[Takashi.Kurokawa]: If you need anything, please let me know.
Seeing the alerts he's getting from in-game, Takashi replies to Flagelo first:

pre:
[to Flagelo]: I just texted her to see if she's alright, but I haven't asked about Takamura yet. She's probably pretty beat up still.
And then sends a quick reply to Ambrose via in-game mail, since that's the channel he used:

pre:
"Contact <insert list of officers>; it's pretty casual so I think you'll probably get in. If they ask, I'll vouch for you. Might give it a few, guild just got some bad news dropped on 'em."

(Going to take a break for a month, back after March 23rd, by April.)

(So every week for the last two months I've done the same song and dance where I should hit the update beats for the pace I want for the game but I screw that off and put if off. I am clearly a little sick of the pen and paper hobby and am dragging the game down by being unable to clear my head. I also don't see myself getting things together to start the next dungeon and keeping a good rhythm going through my vacation interrupting that. So I am going to take a long break and let some creative interest bubble up anew. I hope my players will be around to get back into it then.)

Sunday Wrap-up

(Going to rails things a bit to speed it up and get us back on track. Editing the bonus given from the Temperance Social Link to increase Flanking Bonuses and Assist Others in Skill Checks from +2 to +3. The +2 Surge Value bonus will still be granted by another Social Link unlocked in this post!)

Takashi: You send our your messages, getting a quick response from the genial but reclusive GM. He seems to be a weekend warrior.

: "Thank you for your consideration, .attak. If you could give me details or e-mail them to me later... Takamura was a bit estranged from his family, and I've only just heard the news from his girlfriend."

Speaking of which, you get a reply text from Yuki, Takamura's girlfriend.

pre:
[Kurihara.Yuki]:Thank you Takashi. I'm sorry, but I'd like to be alone for awhile.
A bit of a disappointment but you can hardly object to the grief. You'll have to follow up later. (Side Event Unlocked)

Tsukiyo: Miho seems terribly concerned by your last remark.

: "Uh-uhm, that's alright. As long as Tsuki's my friend, I don't mind them." She fidgets a bit with her hands, unable to mask the terrible, terrible anxiety the thought causes her. "Tsuki, leave them alone, OK? I hear things can get really bad if you pick a fight..." Not wanting to end the evening on a sour note, Miho forces a smile and a polite goodbye. "See you tomorrow!"

That night .attak and Memento chat with you, the three of you agreeing that Takamura's death is the height of suspicious and that his girlfriend is your only real contact at the moment. As .attak learns, Takamura lived with no family. Maybe you could investigate the scene of the crime later if Yuki opened up a bit. (Side Event Unlocked, same as Takashi's)

Akio, Sunday: As you finish up at the arcade, Kane shakes his head.

: "Nah, a guy who learns to play Hatter can understand what it means to main... I'll brush up on my iron witch and take you down next time!"

: "They were good matches! See you tomorrow, Akio!"

Akio, Sunday Afternoon: Takashi provides you with officer contact info for [Ailuridae]... sounds like gibberish. Hound, Raccoon, Diviner and White Blade? The first three are online frequently, White Blade seems to be a weekend warrior GM and the weekend is just ending. Initial contact with one of them gets the attention of the trio and you're soon assailed by the howling laughter of them all. Hound and Raccoon suggest you join them for some roaming PvE next week as a trial. And if it should turn to PvP... don't worry, they assure you. They're ready for that! (Side Event unlocked.)

Akio, Overnight: Taking the World card grants you a +1 Attack/Damage bonus to Fortune actions made with a World Arcana Support Persona. The big-nosed gentleman seems terribly amused, fingers laced together, elbows on the table, his face and chuckle barely concealed. He separates his hands and gestures broadly.

: "Very few have the opportunity to try for the World, dear boy. Please do not think that it is merely a ticket to harmony, or that your own soul naturally aligns with the interests of the world. Your idols saw the real meaning..." He laces his fingers together again, a pair of blood-shot eyes peering over the hands and the nose at you. "A chance to align the world itself with your own rhythm. Thus... you must attain the highest understanding of self. No difficult task. I'm sure you can teach a thing or two to your kind's philosophers when you're finished."

From the World card you hold a shadow blossoms and slowly takes shape, the pleasant astral perfection of the world bear appearing by your side. Short yet divine, it looks up at you expectantly.

quote:

Kuru (World)
A mysterious ursine earth spirit associated with pagan rituals. Despite a friendly appearance it is fond of bones and channels great magic through them. Utterly loyal to those that present it with well-preserved bones.
Mamagnara: (vs Reflex, CB1. Deals 1d6+1 Acid Damage to all Enemies and applies -2 AC/Fort UEONT.)
Bear Hug (vs Fortitude, Melee. Deals 2 Physical Damage and Roots target USONT(Yours.))
Weakness: Thunder, Lightning

: "Have a good night, Akio." You feel exhaustion take you as the Velvet Room fades away.

Itsumi, Sunday Afternoon: You ask White Blade about Takamura's sudden death, chatting in private messages.

: "I'm sorry, Diviner. It seems to be a break-in gone wrong. There were signs of a struggle, no forced entry and a pretty morbid scene. His girlfriend found the body and called the police. I think the case is coming up cold... usually these crimes are really sloppy. This time it's almost surgical precision." You've known Blade for awhile. A true weekend warrior, he makes strong strides on Saturday and Sunday in DDW because his career keeps him so busy. A lawyer that works closely with the police, sometimes he fascinates guild chat with discussions of his work.

Itsumi, Overnight: The big-nosed gentleman seems mildly bemused by your demeanor, and gestures to the card you've chosen and now hold.

: "Might I offer you some advice? No matter how you block its light, the Sun shines eternally. It shines upon all equally and without pause. Thus... bear in mind your true nature. You may be unaware of it, but it shall always show up when beckoned, bright and warm, only able to function as it naturally does." He tut-tuts and waggles a finger. "And really, it falls to a proper young lady to engage the gentleman in enlightened conversation. Your mask will become decrepit at this rate. Perhaps you must balance the two... or lay one to rest, hmm?" All this lecturing and philosophy is making your eyelids heavy. The Velvet Room fades away as you return to sleep and thankfully, you wake up in your own bed the next morning! As the warm rays of the rising sun enter through your window you get a little alert on your smart phone's DDW app. You've always had a decent selection of Support Persona from a Soulshell, but it seems now you have a new one.

(As Sun Arcana, you add +1 to Attack/Damage/Healing made with Fortune Actions from Sun Persona.)

quote:

Rock Pigeon Herald (Sun)
A noble knight of the eagleitarian beliefs, the Herald stands in defense of lessers as a noble tool, providing the same protections all living things are deserving of. Pledged to the sanctity of all life, he is blessed in turn with the faith of those he has defended. He is the size of an actual pigeon, obviously. Who crafted his arms and armor is a mystery.
Polearm Sweep (vs AC, targets 1-2, Melee. Deals 1d2+1 Physical Damage)
Media (Close Burst 5, all Friendlies. Consumes 1 Healing Surge to restore 4+1 HP)
Patra (Range 5, Friendlies. Consumes 1 Healing Surge to allow a Save against one effect.)
Resists: Necrotic 3
Weakness: Thunder

Noriko: You imagine that from what you've seen of Akane so far, it's no surprise she reads the link initially with some obvious morbid curiosity. A girl that wants to see some death... but soon she puts two and two together and looks up from her phone and at you, clearly concerned. That universal sympathy that you've experienced from almost everyone you've ever known since the accident...

Ah. Akane's lips curl up in a half-smile as she gets ready to say something clever. They halt as the cognition in her eyes is plain to see. She was definitely going to say something like "You're the real deal!" or "You've really been touched by the macabre!" The next stop in her internal logic is probably her mother or even her older sister telling her very sternly not to say such a thing! Akane ends up rubbing the back of her head and looking awkwardly caught out.

: "Ah, Noriko... that's really sad." Mouth half-open in a stupid grin, she chuckles a bit. A very uncommon reaction in those who don't know how to react. Most adults just pity you. Akane puts her phone away and grabs your shoulders, standing up straight and looking you eye to eye. "But we'll have so much fun, you'll forget to be sad, OK?" A closed-eye, grinning smile.

Somehow, somebody that doesn't pity you as a broken thing seems very nice. Even Mr. Yasuo had that element of continued sorrow beneath all his kindness. Caught in such a genuine moment, you're barely aware of the static in the air around you, on the corners of houses and the cracks in the streets. A gentle cracking in the air passes immediately as Akane lets go and bids you farewell. "Ja ne!"

Thou shalt have the blessing of the Priestess arcana...

Everyone: Your Soulshell has made a new social link, granting all Support Personas of the Priestess Arcana an additional +1 to Attack and Damage, as well as increasing everyone's Surge Value by +2.

(And that's one long Sunday wrapped up. Feel free to talk to each other in character, finish up conversations with NPCs or to ask one last question. Moving on to the rest of the week next. I'll also be gathering some summaries of Support Personas, NPCs, etc for reference.)

Sunday - Afternoon

Akio was hoping that his mission would start making sense when he contacted the officers of [Ailuridae], expecting to face a cabal of sinister masterminds or something. But instead they turned out to be total goofballs! A bit bloodthirsty for PvP maybe but they still seemed pretty harmless... Was the Order just trolling him or what? Sending him to some random guild on a secret mission just to get rid of him? Or maybe this was a hazing ritual? He could picture them laughing at their "spy's" latest report about another night spent wiping on some trivial encounter with his target guild... No, Charlotte wouldn't do that sort of thing to him would she? He had already proven his worth. Something about the Red Panda Appreciation Society posed a threat to [ORDER], all he had to do was uncover it. Maybe it was connected with those bad news that Takashi mentioned?

Eh, not much point in getting carried away with speculations at this point. First step, join the guild. At least whatever trial they had in store for him was going to be a walk in the park after Etemenanki.

Didn't you mean to ask about flowers?
During The Week

The week passes by quickly. Unless otherwise stated below, you have four blocks of Free Time to cash in.

quote:

Free Time

Grind: Generates 1d8 x 100 Gold. Add a +1 bonus for every two sessions.
Seek Persona: You can follow up on Nekomata or Doggo, or seek out a newly desired Support Persona based on Arcana type, general role(i.e. support, dps, defensive, buffing, debuffing, etc), or those you've seen others use.
Social Link: Spend more time with a known Social Link, or with somebody you think may grow close enough to start a new one.
Build Stats: Suggest an activity to try to raise Courage, Charm or Academics. Extra time spent Studying tends to be fool-proof for building Academics.

Akio: You find yourself drawn to the Arcade more often, often at Kane and Felix's invitation. Your prowess with Black Hat and fighting game technique in general begins to get you some notoriety... but what kind, and how infamous? Make three Arcana Checks.

Your father closes a project at the start of the week and joins the family in the morning and afternoon for the rest of the week. One day he catches you when your step-mother is busy on a different floor of the house. Yamamura Katsuo's profile strikes you as looking into a mirror that jumps 20 years forward, your father looking like a cleaned up, serious version of yourself. It's hard to imagine him at your age, or you at his...

: "Akio, I hear you've been doing well at school. I'm glad to hear it." He gives you a friendly, patriarchal smile and folds up the newspaper he was reading. "I'd like you to do me a favor..."

He produces a potent little money clip and slides off a pair of nice bills and passes them to you. "Hanae's birthday is next week. Take the time to pick out something thoughtful." You suddenly feel as though maybe he doesn't have to be home to know the tensions under his roof. But he gives you a reassuring grin. "A bit of effort goes a long way." You can burn a Free Time block to try to buy a gift(one Skill check of your choice.)

Tsukiyo: Your day to day goes exceedingly well. This week at school seems to be much more relaxed and nobody is bothering Miho. Even the Student Council's warning of hooligans from another school seems unnecessary. The streets are tame! Almost boring. One day you can hear Clara and Genjuro arguing severely over a need to "look presentable", "do something with your time" and to "pay rent." Feels like Genjuro's post-high school life hasn't exactly taken off.

You could take it easy... but due diligence is its own reward. You can burn 1-4 blocks of Free Time to gather information on either of the school gangs!

Takashi: You feel like a whirlwind of activity! Keeping up with schoolwork, streaming elegantly, helping your darling sisters with their schoolwork... you're a man of many faces! And soon you can add track star to that as you begin this week's preliminary morning training. You can tell immediately that you've gotten into Takano's good graces by showing up for the rest morning. She efficiently drills you and the other runners on technique and time, occasionally prying into their personal life if even the smallest thread of a connection might affect their performance. And mercifully, she gives you a pass... but the next morning, you find a small test. The girl you met on Sunday's charity texts you, asking if you want to walk to school together in the morning. The first suggested date will clash with Track. Your response?

You can also burn a block of Free Time to join your uncle and cousin at the gun range again.

Itsumi: You end up spending all your time at school with Madoka, feeling put off by Tadao's betrayal. The comfort of a real friend is nice too... but then Ichiro comes calling and you're not sure even she could beat up this problem.

: "Hey, new recruit! Just the woman I wanted to see!" In a totally undeserved show of affection, he pats you on the head. You can feel the heated stare of Madoka's shock and confusion boring into the side of your skull. "I'll need some help getting all the paperwork together for the clubs. Stop by the meeting room, will ya?" Like a true professional, he hits and runs before anyone can arrive at the scene of the crime.

Ichiro hits you up for an undoubtedly unfair amount of tedious paperwork for the Student Council, taking up 2 blocks of Free Time. You could always ignore it... or try to get out of it... or try to split it... or something else. Anything else really. Maybe gun Ichiro down. Problem solved, undoubtedly. You also feel that there's more to Tadao's turncoat behavior than anyone lets on, but you'd need 1 block of Free Time to investigate, and a Skill Check of your choice.

: "... Really? I mean, he's a bit cute, but not your type, Itsumi..."

Noriko: With Takano's suggestion, you look for the small on-campus greenhouse that serves as the meeting place and sacred ground for the Gardening Club. It's adjacent to a set of open-air stairs on the side of the building that connect to the roof and the elegant garden space up there. You soon meet a girl named Yoko...

As you recall... the same name as the girl Hideaki was sweet on. A bit demure but cultured and polite. Looks a bit unique for the school. Non-Japanese parent? Any way you cut it the first thing that comes to mind is "out of his league." You're more than welcome to join the club and encouraged to help them set up a flower display on Friday!

You feel like you could chat with Yoko a bit sometime before Friday to try to tip things in your... favor... You're not sure how you feel about playing matchmaker or heartbreaker, but you also feel the mounting pressure of two weeks before your deal with the devil might fall through. If it's real? If you can take that risk.

During the week you also attend Therapy as normal. What do you tell Yasuo about your week?

---

(No rush on replying to this one but shifting back into present tense and the events of Friday soon.)

Itsumi says bluntly. "We'll figure him out soon enough, though." As they walk through the halls, Itsumi pulls Madoka into a side corridor. "Now, I feel like there's something more to Tadao betraying me than he let on... I'm gonna start asking around. You keep your eyes open too, Madaoka-chan... We'll figure this out. And make sure he regrets it."

Itsumi investigates Tadao's betrayal before going home and working on the student council paperwork. It's not all bad... at least she's got an in for some influence. Who knows, maybe she'll even make a genuine friend on the council! She decides to use her free time to try to accomplish this!

Hah, seems like Elder Brother needs a lesson on maturity. Tsukiyo spends her week trying to glib her way into learning more about the various gangs at Naoki Academy, and uses it as an opportunity to get a better understanding on the social structures of the school, getting closer to both those who seem to be suffering under the feet of the delinquents and to some of the delinquents themselves, or at least those who seem to be more approachable without having to use her shinai.

After shutting the door behind him Akio lets out a heavy sigh. This sucked. He couldn't care less about Hanae's birthday, or doing something nice for her in general actually. How old even was she anyway? And what on earth should he buy her? As he arrives at the local shopping district he's yet to find any clarity to his thoughts. He settles for wandering the streets hoping that the perfect gift would just suddenly materialize in front of his nose or something.

As for the remainder of the week Akio spends his time studying at the school library (it just felt awkward being home too much at the moment) and when done with his own studies he takes some time helping out others with theirs. Every night before heading to bed he spends a couple hours playing DDW, sporadically grinding some gold since he was pretty low. He's not sure what to make of the cute world bear support persona he finds waiting for him ingame. What the hell was with that odd dream he had a few nights ago?!

Noriko

Noriko breathes in the scent of soil and pollen and feels at ease. She'd been dreading this, but the space felt familiar, and meeting Yoko served to quiet her anxiety. She hadn't forgotten her meeting with Satan, and the untimely death of Takamura only served to reinforce her belief that the meeting was not a paranoid hallucination. She makes it a point to introduce herself to Yoko. "This is the gardening club? I'm Noriko Mori, I'm new to the area, but I did flower arrangement and a bit of gardening at my old school. I thought I might be able to help out." she does her best to smile, adding a slight hint of cheer to her normally blank expression.

Noriko takes some time out during the week to visit the library and pour through anything she could find on funerary rites and historical botanical practices. She felt like her avant-garde arrangements had been on the amateur side lately, but didn't want to do anything boring for her display on Friday. (training Academics x2)

On Wednesday, Noriko approaches Yoko after club activities. "Do you drink coffee? I like to stop for a cup on the way home from time to time and thought I'd offer." she figured it would be a good opportunity to discuss the club and turn the conversation towards Hideaki if she got the chance.

Noriko (Therapy)

Noriko is a bit listless in therapy, unsure of how much she should and shouldn't tell Yasuo. She decided to focus on school. She talks about joining the gardening club, and of her small group of friends, Akane in particular. "I told her about my family," she muses. "she reacted differently than I expected. I think... things are going to work out. i feel good about it."

On the way home from therapy, Noriko cuts through a graveyard and carefully fills a container with some dirt from some quiet corner of the plot.

Noriko (thursday night)

Thursday night, Noriko waits until nightfall and reaches for her copy of the Lesser Key of Solomon. She had made mistakes with her past attempts and it had put her off on communing with the spirits, but this time she had confidence in her ability, and a sense of urgency tempered her resolve and steadied her hand. She was careful this time. No skimming through passages, no shortcuts. "Furfur..." she whispered the name, as if saying it too loudly would give it power prematurely. The count held mastery over secrets, tempests... and love, between a man and a woman. That was her focus. She knew intent was what was missing from her prior ceremony, and this time, she had a purpose.

She drew a circle on her floor in chalk, and then filled the circle with salt. Then, she drew a triangle around the circle in chalk. At the three points of the triangle she wrote out letters invoking the name of the archangel Michael, and on the sides of the triangle, she named the angel, Anaphaxeton, the spirit, Primeumaton, and lastly, the ineffable name of god, Tetragrammaton. The triangle would bend Furfur's invocation to her will. He was a liar, and a deceiver, and this would protect her from his trickery.

She places a pot, filled with fresh soil and the grave dirt she had collected earlier in the day on top of the salt circle. Two inches from the outer edge of the pot she places a circle of quartz crystals going all the way around the pot. With her finger, she sketches the name 'FURFUR' between the ring of quartz and the outer edge. She pricked her finger, letting a single drop of blood fall into each letter of the devil's name. She then spoke two names; "Hideaki". "Yoko".

She places her flowers carefully, with intention, rooting them into the pot in the shape of Furfur's symbol. Lilies, red and pink roses, white chrysanthemum and a single large orchid in the center. Flowers symbolizing love, and grief. A mix of her own feelings and the feelings she was trying to invoke with the arrangement, both mystical and mundane. Her choices symbolized the love and heartbreak she wanted to inspire between Hideaki and Yoko, and her own loss and grief, the undercurrent of all of her recent works.

She had put everything into it, and it reflected in the finished product. She had never been more satisfied with a project. Exhausted at the effort, she slipped into her bed and quickly fell asleep.
