A thing I saw earlier today in an article about the Pens - since the line of Crosby / Guentzel / Sheary came together they've combined for 19 EV (non-EN) goals over 14 games, which is a pace of like 110 goals over a full season. Obviously nobody is going to keep up that pace, but still. drat.

Sid could probably hit 100 points again in a season with that line.

Problem is that would require all three of them staying healthy and their little midget bodies are gonna be hard to keep healthy over 82 games.

Ive mentioned it before but Dave Spector's book the Battle of Alberta is great and the clearest description of how much the game has changed. There's an entire chapter about two fights between Dave brown and stu grimson. After Brown lost the first one he basically went fuckin insane and sparky kulchisky the equipment guy for the oilers phoned his buddy from the NFL to get some tricks and poo poo and he basically siliconed Browns jersey onto him so Grimson couldnt grab his rear end. Brown then beat grimsons tube in so hard they changed stu's nickname from the grim reaper to the grim receiver god drat

The glass didn't break, but Pardy getting hit through the glass and then having beer poured on him was pretty great. If it was the 80's Peluso would have climbed into the crowd and beat the guy up.

No, we can legit lose. Doesn't mean the Caps aren't the better team, but it's the playoffs and sometimes the better team loses.

And then you just get to add another year to your stupid loving President's Trophy banner.

It seems like the Caps are not handling the forecheck very well, which was one of their strengths during the regular season. I hope the coaches can figure it out - I think if they can resolve their zone exits all will be right with the world again. Otherwise, the series so far has had more to do with Toronto playing well and coming together at the right time than it does with any glaring problem on the Caps' side.

My numnuts analysis is that during the regular season the Caps created a lot of open passing lanes by hesitating during breakouts and allowing forecheckers to overskate the lanes. Babcock said "gently caress that - forget the lanes and attack the puck" and more often than not the Caps are just getting chewed up trying to delay and hesitate their way out of the zone. Furthermore, the forwards are losing confidence in the break, staying back more and not creating the passing lanes that open up when you skate hard. The Leafs are generating way too many turnovers as a result. Caps might need to de-fancify things and just move the puck out quickly like everyone else is doing.
