Is GW2 worth getting back into? I played for awhile back at release then stopped around when Lion's Arch fell. Been itching for a MMO and want to avoid the WoW resub. Worth picking up Heart of Thorns and jumping back in?

:frogsiren:NEW HP TRAIN POLICY:frogsiren:

Since it's been harder and harder to gauge interest and round up enough goons to actually run these lately, I'm going to put a new policy into effect: If you want to be in Tuesday's HP train, send me an in-game mail at Schpyder.2917 sometime on the preceding Sunday or Monday. That will give me enough lead time to just go ahead and say yea or nay when I log in on Tuesday (and update the MOTD to reflect), rather than sitting around in-game waiting for people to log and voice their interest or not.

I'm just going to assume you already figure I'm going to show up and thus I can be lazy and not mail you

Also send me a mail/steam message when it does/does not happen so I can know whether or not to login tia

Yes. Plenty of content. Plenty of goons. The reception for the expansion was mixed but it's definitely more content. Also, gliding in the old world.

It takes a different mindset to enjoy the gw2 endgame compared to other mmos for sure though. Pick a goal and work toward it but don't grind and you'll have a blast. Achievements in this game are great for giving you a fun goal to work toward unlike a lot of games where they're just sort of a bonus

My average day playing looks bonkers, I hop all over the world and almost everything I do contributes to my long term goals but I never spend over a half hour or so in one place.

This is pretty much what I do. I have a text file with a list of "stuff I could do" for most areas. There will be a day in the future when it gets pared down to "farm a billion geodes" or whatever, but it's still a long ways off.

This is really good advice. While I love the events and festivals they do, I wish they'd run longer. I almost always wind up feeling burnt out by grinding out hours of limited time content to get whatever cool limited time thing is around. If you can make yourself just play and do different things all the time it's a lot more fun.

What they need to do is have more stuff on a shorter rotation. Do SAB one week per month, queen's gambit another week, find a way to bring back bazaar of the four winds the following week, etc...

OK

When this game first came out I sort of brushed it off as something that wasn't for me.

I have literally 0 knowledge of this game other that the bare minimum and I'm downloading now.

I have been itching for an MMO to play and can't wait any more.

Im actually really excited about playing because I know nothing about this game so it's like when I played wow for the first time.

Im torn between a Ranger, because I love taming pets, or an engineer, because I love turrets.

What server are you all on?

When I was levelling with the Engineer, I had felt the turrets were anemic, so I switched to Ranger and now I'm happy. You have to go all over the world to get your pets though. I have a lizard named alphys, and a Shark named Jibber Jabber, and a fern hound named Son Of Tvs Frank

Unfortunately you can't main turrets. The one you'll use regularly is the heal turret (it's the engineer's best heal and frankly one of the best heals on any class) but your focus will be on kits, having a lot of skills to press, and carpal tunnel

So speaking of skill presses, what's the most straightforward class (while fun) to play? I tried making an Elementalist and holy poo poo switching between the 4 alignments while juggling cooldowns was not fun. I just want to make things dead.

Someone mentioned staff daredevil a couple pages back? Is it actually fun?

Kessel
Mar 6, 2007

if I want to play a fairly braindead class I go hammer guard. your optimal rotation literally consists of fitting as many autoattacks as you can between your one lonely trap, your F1 skill and your elite shout. you still have to do things like time your aegis shouts and blocks so it's not literally zero effort.

Jinh

Yeah from what I hear guardian and daredevil thief are what you want. I can't speak on guardian but the Max Deeps rotation on daredevil is "dodge, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, repeat" which is simple to execute no matter what's happening. With a gargantuan amount of mobility in shortbow and low health but the ability to dodge 6+ times in a row for frantic fights (3 dodges, 3 staff 5's) i'm having a blast with the class.

hammer guardian is basic but i wouldn't call it fun, mostly because the attacks are very slow

i play a revenant which is just as basic but attacks faster and also has tons of crits and a piercing ranged weapon
