It's basically over guys, most of the due-outs are either from Republican-leaning areas or are going to have a natural Republican-leaning effect due to it being election day vote. Ossoff will get 48% and we'll be back here in June for the runoff

Taking it better than DnD, at least. Like I hoped he would win, but realistically getting 48% in Georgia is solid and still puts the R feet to the flame. People need to have realistic expectations with this stuff. The D's have been shattered as a political party right now and are gonna have to work hard for it. It's gonna be slow progress and this is pretty much what that looks like. I feel pretty good about those kinds of results right now tbh.

I mean if he loses with under 45% of the vote, I get feeling a bit more dejected but it's indicative that Trump and the GOP aren't nearly as strong as they seem to be if he can stay above 47% or so. It's still an uphill battle and I still think the DNC/Dems have a lot of areas in which they need to absolutely do better in if they want to retake the house/senate/white house, but it's a winnable battle.

It's not a bad thing, but a straight win would have put the matter to bed entirely. Deferring who becomes a US representative to June elections puts people on the sheer edge for a race that has a lot invested in it, and some people worry that D turnout for a runoff might be afflicted by people staying home over a morale loss at having failed to secure a decisive win. Not sure how much stock I put into that last element, personally, but I won't rule it out it - much like how I wouldn't dismiss the scenario where Trump farts himself to death in front of Putin for no reason but the inevitable product of his toxic diet. That, and despair is just addicting.

I worry that national Democrats only care about this election because it was a possible steal and come June they'll just look at it like Kansas

Proud Christian Mom posted:I worry that national Democrats only care about this election because it was a possible steal and come June they'll just look at it like Kansas Well, there aren't any other special elections going on in June (that I can think of) and Ossoff is loaded with money, more than Senators even usually need, without needing help from the DCCC. That's why most analysts think 48% is a very good Democratic number, because that might be enough to carry the district in June. It's not like Donnie is going to get any better. Here's a Democratic take from TPM which makes sense: http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/my-take-on-tonights-result-in-ga-6 Here's a Republican take from Erick Erickson (ugh) which also does make sense. I read the whole thing and it's not douchey bullshit, so you can safely click it: http://theresurgent.com/the-truth-about-what-happened-in-the-ga-06-special-election-is-different-from-either-partys-spin/ Why it's taking so long (lol Georgia) https://twitter.com/wsbtv/status/854539503494729729 Elections expert I cited earlier on why you shouldn't be down about the result https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/854539941275193344 Finally, the problem is in Fulton County, the home of Arby's corporate headquarters. I really think even a loss in June is a victory for the Dems. They would have fought well and almost stole a seat that they probably would have trouble taking outright anyway. I mean half the purpose of this is to keep pressure up on the Rs so they fracture and continue to have embarrassing slapfights instead of pushing through meaningful legislation. I doubt it will remain in the public consciousness long enough to really do any damage even if it fails spectacularly.
