I've never had a team face relegation before. If (let's be honest - when) Swansea is relegated, how will I be able to watch them in Canada? As an aside, if someone could explain how this team completely fell apart, I'd love to hear it! Best Welsh football team in history at the Euros, and the Swans traded away the captain! I know Williams is just a symptom but that really surprised me.

Guidolin is a "project" manager who can't pull off one season of instant progress, let alone half a season. Sacking him was foolish. Anyone looking at his track record would see that the times when he had more than a single season to work with (Vicenza, Parma, Udinese) resulted in very good results (Coppa Italia victory, promotion, consistent CL qualification). He would've kept Swansea up imo.

Jose posted:american owners Frosted Flake posted:Preventing that was the whole point of the Trust! Oh boy oh boy... 1) The American owners are only partly at fault for the current state of the club, and that part is the appointment of Bob Bradley. And considering Huw Jenkin's choice for new manager at the time was Ryan loving Giggs I don't think it played a decisive role. 2) The Trust never held any meaningful power. With only a ~20% stake in the club they could only sit by and watch as the majority shareholders (Martin Morgan, Martin Morgan's wife, a few Dutch businessmen, failed builder's merchant Huw Jenkins and vending machine salesman oval office Leigh Dineen) sold up their shares and voting rights (the Yanks now hold a controlling 75%, they can do whatever they want now). At least they should have been able to sit by and watch, but the selling parties deliberately kept the deal hidden until the very late stages, in part due to the betrayal of Huw Cooze (the Fan's Trust representative on the board at the time) who is Huw Jenkin's drinking buddy & away trip bff, who kept things all hush hush (while receiving a paycheque from both Trust and football club. No one considered that might represent a conflict of interest). Rumour has it during negotiations a Chinese consortium approached with an offer to buy that would have involved significant investment into the area (as opposed to literally none) but wasn't as lucrative to the sellers. So they were told to gently caress off.

He would've kept Swansea up imo. Guidolin was an excellent manager who produced top half form with a shitshow of a squad last season, and was rewarded with a weakened squad and a sacking by text on his birthday. Then they held the press conference to announce Bradley in the lobby of the hotel Guidolin was staying at. Guidolin came home from a bikeride, said hello to some people he knew, and then was escorted from the premises. He would have kept us up (it'd not like it would have taken more than a few points this season), but at the same time he was never going to be given the kind of control needed to run his own project. Huw Jenkins does all the transfer dealings because obviously he's so loving good at it. He got to bring in an ex-Inter Milan fitness coach and an assistant or two with bags of experience (including former Chelsea winger Ambrosetti as translator), and it was about two weeks before stories were being leaked to the Welsh media about how they were poo poo and ignoring all the expert advice of the second year sports science students the club is employing.

Who knows how long it will take to get back up? Cardiff might be back in the Premier League before Swansea is again. At least in Cardiff they started to listen to the fans, eventually. They even brought back the colours and the crest.

The actual event that led to the downfall of Swansea City was ironically the signing of Wilfried Bony. Laudrup wanted Aubameyang instead. Big Wilf's success led to Jenkins taking over transfer duties completely, and so in a struggling league season Laudrup got Marvin Emnes and David N'Gog as January reinforcements. Garry Monk wanted a new left back and got a fat lazy French winger. A succession of Ayews. Kyle Naughton. Leroy Fer.

Lukaku, Kane, and Alexis(who isn't in the team of the year) all have more goals. Victor Moses has been as good, if not better than Valencia, and his team is in first place. I would have put Moses and Alonso ahead of Rose and Walker in a team of the season. One more thing on the TOTS: it's decided by the players. They have their own likes and dislikes, they have rivals (for example, I can't see the likes or Lloris or Courtois voting for De Gea and vice versa), there's tactical voting, etc. etc. Tony Adams gave an interview a few years ago where he talked about the difficulties in not just selecting his team but getting the rest of the players to bother putting one together at all.

I do think Danny Rose is right up there at this point, if not the best at his position in the league. Spurs look a lot stronger going forward against good teams and much more stable at back with him in there. The last time Spurs really had trouble with someone in the league was at Anfield where Davies couldn't handle Mane. Rose is just much stronger both ways at this point.
