I'm also really strict about only having FB friends that I know IRL (so only about 60) so if I see a truly crazy opinion I can temper it with the knowledge that this is a person that I know and like.

Yeah the strategy of just going "Wow look at Trump; crazy huh guys amirite lol" while simultaneously having no actual platform beyond "it is my turn to be President" was not a winning one I remember during a debate when Hillary had an opportunity to comment on her platform and goals on national TV and was like "you can read about it on my website" as if people were going to do that poo poo fuuuuuuckin hell

quote:Hillary was at her wit’s end when it came to her messaging—dismayed by the campaign’s lack of inspiration. Here she was, a year into her campaign and about to get trampled by a socialist, and “Breaking Barriers” was the best her staff could come up with. She wasn’t panicked, but she was coming to grips with the idea that, even with years to think about it, the campaign team she’d built was no better than its 2008 predecessor at helping her find an articulable vision for the country.

You can't form a party platform or adapt an old party ideology around those two things by themselves let alone separately. I think it's much more likely we end up with a right that wants to secede from the world while domestically pursuing quasi nativist policies complete with abandoning free trade for protectionism and a left that is domestically social democratic with an extremely hawkish international interventionism.
