I just looked over the Record Store Day list again for tomorrow and good lord that really is the worst selection I've seen for a RSD yet. It says a lot when the only things that remotely interest you are a single of Toto's Africa that is in the shape of Africa, and some 1970s Japanese erotic jazz porn thing.

I'll still go because I haven't done any crate digging in a while but... yeesh.

(although if you still need Arthur Verocai's self-titled album in your collection, jump on that poo poo if you see it. Just trust me on this)

Yeah, first year my buddies and I are skipping it entirely. At least last year had those Japanese garage comps. I'll probably just pick up the Girls in the Garage comps in a month when my local store tries to clearance all the RSD leftovers.

There's a reissue of Flower Travellin' Band's first album but no one in my area is getting it. It's a shame because this is the only official LP reissue of that album. Original pressings are hilariously expensive. I'm hoping that it'll be like those Japanese Garage Psych compilations were last year where all the flippers dump them for retail price a month or two from now.

Also!

If anyone wanted that Fiona Apple LP from Vinyl Me, Please the site is back up.

edit: It appears that the Flower Travellin' Band LP is not an official reissue. It's from the same label that put out the sorta bootleg represses of it that are already out there. The RSD one just a "limited" edition that's numbered out of 1000. Incidentally it is from the same label that put out those Japanese garage comps which sounded good to me. So not a bad thing to have, but not an authorized release either. At least I know I can get a copy of it without dealing with RSD bullshit and inflated prices.

This was last year's release, but it was on sale so whatever.

I actually already have this album as the 7x10 inch boxset but I can't be bothered to actually listen to it. :effort:

And our next door thrift store got some motherfucking Vladimir Ashkenazy. gently caress yes.

Well, that sucked. I really wanted the Blade Runner soundtrack, but the store didn't even get any copies. And they were sold out of the Africa disc.

I did get the 10" Star Wars record.

e: I'd forgotten about a used record store that was also participating, since the last time I went there, it was an organizational nightmare.

They not only had the BR soundtrack, but I also got the Andromeda Strain soundtrack, too.

It didn't look any worse than last year's. By that I mean there was about a dozen or less things I actually wanted. Luckily though, I'm completely broke so I'm not even bothering to go. I'm sure most of the weird poo poo I want will still be on Discogs by the time I get some money.

And yeah, the most interesting thing was that Ike Reiko album and I'm sure they'll still have plenty to go around after RSD. Nobody wants to be That Guy who buys the record with the topless girl on it in public.

As always, I talk poo poo about RSD and then find myself spending wayyyy too much money. :shepspends:

I hit up two stores and was actually kind of impressed at how diverse the selection was between them. They were both sold out of Africa of course (I didn't bother to get up early to wait in line to secure a copy, literally not gonna lose sleep over it), but I did find the things I was really looking for at the first store, while the second store had a clearance bin where I did snag a few random things that totally made my day.

Here's what I got:

The Frank 'N Dank and Jay Dee EP. Couple of unreleased songs of theirs. It's what you'd expect pretty much.

Ike Reiko: You, Baby. 70s jazzy J-porn. Goes well beside Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson.

King Vidiot posted:

It was me. I was that guy. :negative:

And that was it for RSD stuff. But I also picked up:

Some beep bloops from Thom Yorke. I used to see this go for about $75. It was on clearance for $25.

Live album from Goat. I think they had a single or EP this RSD but I didn't find it. I'll probably stumble upon it sooner or later.

Portugal. The Man: It's Complicated Being a Wizard. Experimental 23-minute track on side A (Wizard Side), supposedly the same song played again on Side B (Complicated Side) but at a speed of "6 6/6 rpm." Pretty sure it's actually just blank, heh.

Actually got this a while back, just showing it off. Ethio-jazz is some good poo poo.

Sadly, I made a fairly brutal miscalculation in the "mental math" portion of doing my taxes, so my record budget is shot for the moment and RSD is going to not be a thing for me this time around---which is pretty okay, nothing was really jumping out at me as regards stuff I absolutely had to have. But it would have been nice to hit a record store or two.
