Sorry this is so late. I'll try to be as clear as possible. The bounces for Columbus? They were the bad bounces. The bounces for Pittsburgh? Very much good time bounces. If the bounces are not so good maybe for Pittsburgh in the 2nd round, they are going to be losing the hockey games.

I hope this helps clear it up!

Clearly if Columbus was luckier they wouldn't have spent the first three games running around taking stupid penalties. Or something.

Eh I can get the point of Columbus having their best season and being unfortunate to go against the Penguins because the league insists on a dumb playoff format. But everyone has to deal with it so nothing too major. And I can't argue that the series we got wasn't entertaining and that Columbus didn't play well enough to deserve to win.

Columbus didn't play "really, really well". They played like absolute steaming poo poo through the first three games and only marginally better in games four and five. They took a ton of undisciplined penalties and Bobrovsky was awful. It wasn't an issue of puck luck, it was an issue of being outplayed by their opponent.

I'm starting to wonder if you actually watched any of the games at this point because your opinion is literally the exact opposite of everyone else on the forums.

Eh, Columbus racked up a ton of shots (average of 38 SOG) which does support the ides of Columbus playing well to a degree but the Penguins had 34 SOG on average, spent much of the series leading, and the location charts I've seen make it look like the Penguins shot a ridiculous proportion of their shots from high danger areas while Columbus was more spread around the ice. Bobrovsky wasn't good but their defense was lovely too.

The game 1 shot location from http://hockeyviz.com. The pens got much more dangerous chances.

IS WHERE YOUR HEART IS
The first period of literally every Pens v. CBJ game was Pittsburgh getting absolutely dominated in puck possession and chances. In fact, the only game that CBJ won is the one where Pittsburgh got punished for giving up shots and leaving huge rebounds in the first period.

Again, ya'll fuckin twisting the hell out of what I said. I said that the series goes 6 or 7 with CBJ losing if they get slightly better goaltending from Bob and they were able to cash in on really bad positioning and rebound control on Fleury.

Yeah they did some undisciplined poo poo but they were fast, worked really hard, and played some drat good hockey. You don't just happen to fire 50 loving shots against the same team that held the San Jose Sharks to 4 SOG in the final period of an elimination game for the loving Stanley Cup.

Lastly, why ya'll so hostile about me giving a team some praise? Especially CBJ of all teams. Like, what the gently caress?

Bowman is REALLY MAD GUYS

quote:

General manager Stan Bowman met with the Chicago media on Saturday and did not paint a rosy picture of the Blackhawks’ postseason performance.

Bowman opened his media session with a blistering assessment of the postseason, using the world “unacceptable” three different times, and calling it a “complete failure” in his one minute and 57 second address.

“I am completely, completely disappointed, it is unacceptable to be where we are today,” said a visibly angry Bowman.

What's he going to do about it?

I'm not sure who "literally everyone else" is because the Game 5 GDT featured a fair bit of "Thank gently caress we're not going back to Columbus for Game 6 because that would be a hard game to win" sentiment out of PAS.

John Tortorella could donate his salary from a season to pet and Are Troops charities and somebody would still go "Fuckin' Torts, man...man, what a god drat oval office. gently caress YOU COLUMBUS" (even though CBJ were an SAS pet team in 2013-14 before that title went to Fancy Cats).

That spill Staal took was gross.

cenotaph
Mar 2, 2013

Plenty of Columbus fans on the internet were all over Tortorella for abandoning their style of play from the regular season in favor of throwing a lot of hits in the first two games. Whether he was trying to jump-start the team after a stretch of poor play at the end of the season or he was just being an idiot (or both!) is anyone's guess. Whether they had an untimely slump or they were just regressing to their actual talent level is another question.

They rang up a bunch of bad shots, threw too many hits, and they actually did get some lucky bounces for goals. I don't see any evidence that they should have been better than they were with the exception of Bobrovsky's play and he's been known to have stretches of really bad play in the past. At least Tortorella only embarrassed himself with his coaching instead of having himself another little media meltdown.

I said this once on some n/v, but again; I watched about 80% of Totoro post-game pressers during this season, originally for morbid curiosity. And I know well what he's done before and his reputation, and I'm no expert, but from a neutral perspective everything he said during the season in the pressers seemed really sensible, calm, pro-young players, pro players-making-mistakes-while-trying etc etc. and generally smart.

I have no real team I actually support but I kind of got into CBJ and hoped they'd do well in playoffs too.

It´s a real shame to me that it fell apart so massively in the playoffs and the weeks before that, and I´m really disappointed at the apparent collapse of Tortorella´s reasonableness. Hope he takes one more lesson from this into next year, though I don´t see it as likely..

Apparently, JD and/or Jarmo established around the time he was hired "There will be no bullshit antics here". He also at one point traded strong performances for no practices, abolished the morning skate, and didn't impose a curfew on his players as shows of trust, which raised surprised eyebrows.

I expected CBJ to win against a banged up Pens and that was my pick in the toxx thread. The biggest issue was Bob; just league-average goaltending would have made this a different series. But there were other issues that probably should have sounded alarms.
