A lot of time and effort has gone into the black books and I will buy a couple when I can justify the price.

I definitely want to buy Angelus when it comes out. The black books are honestly pretty neat, and I want my giant plates of dark angels armor and the list of famous battles and stuff. Those sections are like the old index astartes articles on crack.

I can try that. Kharadrons are pretty bulky though, I'm afraid Cadian arms are going to be really weirdly proportioned on them. Once it's out I'll pick up a box to experiment with.

Those do look nice. I like the arkonaut look better, but hopefully by the time I start building this bits sellers will have the thunderer arms in good supply. Since it's militia, I don't really have to do much converting anyway. If the weapon shows ammo, then I can justify it as having battery cartridges which let them be S4 30 inch lasrifles. chutche2 fucked around with this message at 15:41 on Apr 22, 2017 |

Won't lie, pretty worried/unhappy about the ramifications of this for 30k. As nice as it might be to have a base game system that isn't complete rear end, I also would rather not have to deal with a complete revamp of all of the books.

"A few of you might be wondering how the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 affects Forge World’s Horus Heresy rules and army lists. Well, for the moment, it won’t! You can carry on using the existing Warhammer 40,000 ruleset for your Horus Heresy games." So expect it to take another year for 30k to be updated, and until then no one can play crossover games.

Book review time! Horus Heresy 29 - Vengeful Spirit I'll say right off the bat that this isn't my kind of Warhammer book, but that doesn't necessarily mean this wouldn't be a good match for you. Vengeful Spirit is about 80% battle narration and bolter porn and 20% actual storytelling. I've much preferred the books that bracket this one, less emphasis on exploring 50 ways to describe burning flesh and more emphasis on marines dealing with the Heresy at a more political and emotional level. Vengeful Spirit follows the Warmaster as he invades the planet of Moloch, a world that carries special significance to the Emperor. It was on Moloch that the Emperor found a gate directly into the heart of the Chaos Realms and stole the secret of fire from the gods, so to speak. Horus obviously would like to repeat the Emperor's triumph and the transfiguration of Horus from still-a-fairly-normal-primarch to the fully corrupted daemonic dude that we know and love is covered near the end of the book. Along side this we have three sub-plots: one about Garviel Loken and Iacton Qruze returning to the Vengeful Spirit on a suicide mission to mark the place up for Leman Russ, a story about a Slaaneshi loving Knight house and another perpetual story. Regarding the perpetual: this one serves almost no purpose other than to somewhat humanize the ending of what is otherwise an extremely dark book. I don't think Warhammer novels need final-note humanization. This particular perpetual accomplishes nothing. She was apparently stationed on the planet to protect the black gate from would be demonologists. I think you know what ends up happening. Regarding the Slaaneshi knight house: I really liked this sub-plot, although everyone in it was utterly despicable. It was the least predictable part of the novel, in that it wasn't clear who we were supposed to follow or root for and even though you expect everyone to be doomed it wasn't clear who (if any) would come out on top. It ends with a hentai inspired tentacle porn scene inside the cockpit of a knight. With an old man. And Fulgrim. Garviel's plot was, to me, a poor follow-up to his development in the first three Horus Heresy novels. There's no further development of Loken as a character. He spends most of the book either shell shocked or puttering around angry. I don't think Loken works well in isolation from the other Mournival characters. Leaving him maybe dead on Istvaan would have been fine. Tormageddon comes back and that could have been cool, but very little ink is spent on it. We do learn that the Sons of Horus now have their own demon possessed troops called the Lupercali, but they seem pretty squishy and don't really accomplish much. Horus's story is told through a mix of perspectives. That of Horus himself. Various imperial commanders or space marines who can count their life spans in seconds. Little Horus Aximand. Lots of people die. This book should have come with a score card or maybe an electronic counter. So MANY people die. I'd say a good 30% of the text in the book is just given over to descriptions of meat chunks, burning corpses, or people with holes through their chests. There's even that old tropey scene of a soldier walking around stunned looking for his own arm - only this time the soldier is a DREADNOUGHT WALKING IN CIRCLES LOOKING FOR ITS ARM. So Horus shows up. People die. He finds the black gate. He becomes Horus 2.0. One of the most interesting premises of the book is that Horus spent a hundreds of years inside the black gate fighting the armies of Chaos to earn their secrets and trust. Years everyone else experiences as a blink of an eye. Horus comes out haggard, worn, aged and with the Moloch campaign a distant memory, but the author waves his hands over this and we don't get any further insight into what might have happened within. I think I could have skipped this one. It wasn't terrible, just not that good. It didn't help that the author (Graham McNeill) has a really bad habit of writing sentences like "the smokey column still smoked" and "the stinky corpse bore a stink". Take a drink every time Graham McNeill describes something using the adjective and verb or noun form of the same word twice in one sentence. Just make sure your glass is full of water. This was a book of missed opportunities. GreenMarine fucked around with this message at 21:30 on Apr 22, 2017 |

I do expect the rules to split off, but even if not it will probably be fine. Having most armies drawn from the same list means at least it will stay balanced. Please be ok, future Emperor's Children.

I'm sure they're going to release their own ruleset, based on 7th, filled with typos and poorly answered faqs. They put too much effort into getting Inferno "right" to throw it away six months later.

I think it's a good idea for them to juat rerelease 7th rules for HH in a fancy new book. It's all MEQ fighting and pretty much the same book for everyone, plus forgeworld can still make their 40k models and carve out a niche even further in 30k. What they do is anyone's guess but I'd be happy with either as long as the legions remain as nicely flavoured as they are now.

Honestly, I would be really happy if they kept the same rules they have now but went with the changes to AP from Shadow Wars. I love my plasma gun Vets as much as the next 30k player, but I also think Autocannons should have a little more impact on Tacticools walking out in the open.
