Yeah tbh you can't really argue Rooney was a waste of money or they paid too much in transfer fee, he was their star player for the best part of a decade.

Rooney was a great purchase at the time, has been great for 10+ years, but United should have scaled back his wages/role over the last couple of years and found a proper replacement for him. Easier said than done though.

Cut from the same cloth as Ricky Hatton. IMO no level of cardio could rescue him from an early decline. Also just mileage. He's been around forever and went all-out for many of those years. Play him and Herrera in the middle with Mkhitaryan, Mata, and Martial/Rashford in front then Zlatan up top and you have a balanced midfield.
