I've been going through all the stuff listed on youtube, and I still cannot believe all of the people who complain about CTH's Patreon funding. Like, do they just think they get $5 from random people? Do they look at popular hotdog vendor and sneer at how he's "just living off of other people's money!"?

They resent them yo-yo's makin' money for just saying words into microphones. That ain't workin. We gotta move these microwave ovens. Custom kitchen deliver-ay-ay.

Internet libertarians and Ben Shapiro types are the other type of people who think that the West Wing reflects reality. They worship technocracy and think that politics is simply stupid ideologues vs smart fact-using rationalists, and that victory is won via debate club.

I wouldn't really recommend it to most CTH listeners but it can be pretty great.

Sebadoh Gigante posted:By the way what are some good comedy podcasts that don't try too hard? As has been already mentioned, My Brother My Brother and Me is a silly comedy advice podcast by three brothers with really good chemistry, and they never feel like they're forcing a bit. Since you have an 08 reg date, you definitely should give The F Plus a shot. A rotating cast of internet friends read and mock dumb poo poo on the internet: aliens, obnoxious weddings, conspiracy theories, wrapping Roy Orbison in clingfilm, sex with bugs, Reddit legal advice, dudes who like getting whacked in the nuts, the squatter lifestyle, wikis for Original The Characters, etc. It's got a huge backlog with few clunker episodes, and it's one of my favorites.

The episode where they had the Dollop guys on was pretty good, but beyond that I can't think of any episodes standing out. They're all just two girls gabbing about murder. I just think it would be funny for the Chapo boys to guest on it, because MFM has managed to walk this weird line where they make jokes about actual murders while being completely sympathetic to the victims and admitting that it's weird that true crime is fascinating while also reveling in how much they like it, and it would just be completely destroyed by Matt showing up and being like, "I'm gonna talk about The Butcher of Khuzestan, the leader of an Arab militia that carried out massacres of Qashqai and personally tortured and killed at least two hundred people himself" and bumming the poo poo out of everyone.

The problem would be less about politics and more about the McElroys having completely opposite senses of humor and approaches to life in general. The MBMBAM motto is basically that everyone is special and we should celebrate our differences, whereas Chapo's is more like "everyone who disagrees with us is a smoothbrained oaf who should be imprisoned or executed."

The real issue would be when Chapo goes after liberal heroes like Obama and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

It doesn't just focus on true crime, they also look into paranormal beings, aliens, and conspiracies, and even when it's wacko bullshit you can tell they put a LOT of time and effort into their research. It oftens sounds like a morning zoo crew, and a lot of their humor is problematic to say the least, but they have some incredibly detailed episodes on the Aum Shinrikyo subway bombing, H H Holmes, Ed Gein, and more.

As Nick put it, his entire career is copy/pasting from r/blackpeopletwitter and worldstar hip hop comments sections.
