But if you assume Kante is just out there tackling the ball off people and getting in the way of passes, it probably misses the mark on him being a pretty good distributor of the ball. He certainly doesn't just hit a sideways pass and then go back to a holding position.

Kante sits far further up the field than your traditional defensive midfielder. His strengths are obviously his interceptions, tackles and work rate but he's no slouch when it comes to passing or making forward runs. Also he's nothing like Carrick. Carrick sat deep and wasn't even close to being mobile like Kante is.
