I think a team can petition the league to add a name to the Cup for X reasons and if the league will allow it, the name will get added.

Enough people made a stink about the Penguins getting Pascal Dupuis but not Beau Bennett added onto the Cup that Beau even said on twitter "no really guys I understand, I'm not mad"

And then of course Kevin Porter got in right on the nose at 41 games so any future Penguins fan that sees the Cup will be like "who the hell was that"

Somebody has to do the scoring around here.
My 2 favorite OT games were...

1) Pens vs Caps where Lemieux got ejected in the first or second period for going bonkers on a Caps player... then Petr Nedved wins it in multiple OT

2) Darius Kasparitis with the unlikely series clincher vs Hasek and the Sabres.

Also, NHL... I want to pay for unfiltered on ice mic. Let me do it. Think of the HRR!

Noted faceoff guy, vegan, and fringe 4th liner, Mike Zigomanus, only had one season where he played more than 22 games and that was with the Phoenix coyotes. He did not play a single NHL playoff game in his whole career. He is on the Stanley Cup as a member of the 09 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Apparently he wrote his own Wikipedia page too

Having terrific vision, soft hands and adept in a passing touch, and great skill on the faceoff, Zigomanis has molded his role as a third-line playmaker. The Coyotes signed him to a contract extension through the 2008–09 season on February 16, 2007. On October 9, 2008, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for future considerations.[3][4] Zigomanis provided faceoff and penalty killing expertise to Pittsburgh.

These are the best videos. I'd watch so many hours of mic'd players/refs from pro sports.

Also I'm always surprised at how quiet it is on the ice in an NHL rink. It sounds like... hockey.

That PIT@CBJ game a few years back where Fleury got caught out of the net and gave up the tying goal with less than a minute left, then Nick Foligno slid the length of the ice on his knees after scoring the OT winner was one of my favorite Playoff games I ever watched.

I was watching an arena football game and one of the coolest things I heard was that the refs were mic-ed up during their replay challenge reviews. It was awesome to hear their thoughts while they disected the play. I'd love for the NHL to do this too, but it would never happen.

edit: they've NOT fired Buccigross but his contract is up in the summer and it's gery up in the air

Lebrun is still under contract with TSN, so he's still kinda good for now.

My favorite part of that with Bennett was him following up saying the only things that make him angry are being stuck in traffic and being hungry.
