HappyHippo posted:My take on the amensty thing is that they're trying to avoid a free for all before the law is in place. Trying to be all "the law is the law until we change it" isn't going to work if you talk up amensty happening as well, you'd basically be inviting people to break the law anyway knowing they'd be pardoned in a few months. Then they'll pass an amnesty for simple possession after they legalize. Why couldn't they decriminalize possession while they work on legislation to legalize sale/distribution etc?

I just checked and NAFTA doesn't have anything to do with why cheese is so expensive so I don't care if it goes or stays. Someone needs to do something about these cheese prices. I demand action.

He's trying to bully Canada for trade leverage. Pulling out of NAFTA would gently caress over the US as badly as Canada/Mexico. Maybe worse, because their economy is bigger. e: Even Trump understands this.

While Congress passed a number of bills in order to implement NAFTA, under the U.S. Constitution, the president, not Congress, has power over foreign policy. Thus, it is generally accepted that only the president is authorized to give notice on behalf of the U.S. to terminate a treaty or trade agreement, such as NAFTA.

The G&M interview he gives when he announces his withdrawal has some amusing quotes:quote:Mr. O’Leary said he first met with Mr. Bernier at his cottage in June, when Mr. Bernier asked for his endorsement, and the two have worked on policies together. quote:“It’s clear to everybody this is not about Kevin O’Leary. This is about winning. And so, if this was about Kevin O’Leary, I’d stay in this thing, win the leadership race, and not worry about the fact I can’t deliver Quebec,” he said. quote:When asked if he had low support in Quebec because he doesn’t speak fluent French, Mr. O’Leary said, “Defining Quebec is…they’re the Florida of Canada. They often decide who wins an election.”

Why would any Conservative vote for anyone other than Lietch at this point? If they want conservative policies but don't hate muslims, they can just vote to keep the Liberals in power. Aside from xenophobia, what can the CPC offer anyone?

Only jaded cynical leftists and bitter dippers think justin is centrist or believe the whole "liberals campaign from the left, govern from the right" thing. For a lot of liberal voters justin is a bastion of progressive politics but he's just realistic and the liberals have experience unlike the NDP who would tank the economy and oh my gosh I'm just so proud of our handsome progressive PM. For conservatives though they take to heart every empty "progressive" thing justin says as evidence he's a full on marxist who wants to force all kids to be trans. Much in the way a lot of NPD folks I know don't see a huge difference between the liberals and conservatives when it comes to their actual policies outside of a few social issues, conservatives don't see a lot of difference between the NDP and LIberals other than a few economic issues.
