God I hope not, one multiclass fucks matchmaking up bad enough already. And the three weeks or whatever where Fury Varian was broken OP were basically my least fun point in HotS. Anything but that again.

Played 5 matches in a 5 stack for the nexus challenge. First games in months. Li Ming is a lot of goddamned fun. I'm not sure I "get" Zuljin yet in terms of positioning and such. Played Chromie and Guldan and those were fun too, but I am not very good with them at all. Missing a lot of shots with them.

ZJ isn't very good. You pretty much need Tassadar, Zarya, Uther, Lucio-- big shields and immunity effects-- to be effective. Against a squishy team without blinds or stuns he can occasionally shine, but mostly there isn't a reason to take him over other AA heroes with more utility that don't require playing with fire.

Samuro is very good on a merc/npc heavy map. He melts Terrors, Bruisers, Immortals, etc. If the other team takes Arthas you're hosed.

Murky release was probably the absolute peak of "this game is unplayably bad right now", but that's because release Murky was a horribly thought out hero who pretty much ruined the game for the other team. March of the Murlocs was on like an 80 second cd, wasn't a channel, and did dramatically more damage than it did now and Murky didn't give any XP on death, so every game involving Murky consisted of him suiciding into your base endlessly and always doing an absolute poo poo ton of damage - a single March on a fully shielded core would do over 1/3 of its life in damage.

Even your team stomping objectives 5v4 wasn't fast enough on most maps to beat Murky's insane push speed, so the only way to deal with it was to condemn one person to permanent "trying to kill Murky to mitigate a little bit of the damage he deals" duty while hoping that your remaining four could beat the enemy four before the Murky Timer killed your base like a natural disaster.

After experimenting with a number of different warriors I think that to me Johanna is probably the quintessential tank. Like, there are tanks with better initiation abilities (Anub'arak) and there are tanks with better inherent crowd-control (Diablo, Muradin), and I suppose there are even tanks that are more resilient (Chen), but simply in terms of someone who creates an area around themselves and says that if you step into that zone you're gonna have a bad time, it feels like Johanna is the best at simply being this walking impediment to everything the enemy team might want to do.

The important thing to remember is that yes, they have logs, but they don't check that poo poo on their own because I'm pretty sure you'd kill yourself if your job was to trawl through chat logs for a Blizzard game. There's waaaaaay too much chat going on for them to actively monitor every single channel.

I think it would be more productive for Blizzard to give the people who aren't necessarily interested in ladder climbing the opportunity to make some sort of educated counterpicks (oh, they're going Valeera/Nova, maybe I'll pick a hero with good detection) instead of trying to protect them from themselves with weird panic nerfs that make a character who was in a relatively balanced place suddenly worse without any tradeoff. Especially because there really isn't any end to the well of unfun, even if you nerf a character that's attracted a ton of outcry into the ground people will just find something else to pin their frustrations on.

Oi this is the first time I've bitched about him and I find him unfun since it's usually in QMs where I didn't pick someone with all the AoE in the world. If I'm Valla or, God help the Samuro, Tassadar then I don't mind him at all.

Sorry, I wasn't really trying to call you out or anything, it just reminded me that the patchnotes for 2.0 literally gave "people found this hero unfun" as the reasoning behing the Valeera nerf and I went from there. And like you said, how unfun characters are can be a product of the hero(s) that your team is bringing to the table.

And that's entirely valid, not to take away from anyone's frustration (lord knows this game frustrates me sometimes), but I think the better solution to that would be making quickmatch less of a random clusterfuck where you're rolling the dice without even an idea of what map you're going to play on let alone who you're going up against, give people the ability to exercise some semblance of planning or counterpicking even in the more casual mode. I know there's supposed to be some sort of matchmaking system that tries to deliver "balanced" teamcomps in quickmatch but apparently it isn't smart enough to do things like squaring of stealth heroes against characters with detection options.

People who want counterpicking literally want Draft mode. If you play blind pick, then you've willingly picked clown fiesta mode for fun, just like any MOBA.

I actually think there's a satisfactory middle ground to be found between "clown fiesta" and "I want to sit through a full draft/ban with people preemptively getting tilted before the game even starts just to play the game," especially given that Blizzard apparently likes to balance things around clown fiesta mode instead of telling people to just play Draft.

What is the middle ground where you magically get to counterpick but there isn't a draft? You realize if you can see their team, and they can see yours, nobody is going to pick until the last possible second so they can wait for counterpicks, right?

That's why it's blind pick in the first place in other MOBAs.

Like the goon said before, queue for a match that shows what map you've all rolled then you pick who you wanna play. Kinda like in Dota All Pick, get 60 seconds to decide until it just auto-randoms you and then starts the game. Maybe even make 45 seconds. gently caress knows I'm still going to pick who I want to level but if they all pick stealthers then that will give me a chance to ruin their day with my boy Tass'. Also you can have mirror picks.

Something different though, I was 1 match off from leveling with Rag and getting a chest and I was like "This is gon' be short" and queued for an AI game. loving nope. Everyone else was an Overwatch hopper, the ending screen after a 30 minute game where our core got to 10% against normal bots had me at 80% Hero Damage, 60% Siege and 50% XP. That was the most infuriating quick-bot game of my life.

The people who would pick a stealth character before the 59 second mark are probably too dumb to breathe. There is no situation where you both have time to counterpick and are also playing against a remotely threatening player.

Yea dota all pick is not functionally different from quick match, except you get even less balanced teams.

Genji's deflect in general is kinda dumb, it's just a way weaker version of Varian's parry. The main problem with it is that it gets cancelled by stuns. So essentially you have a defensive skill that does absolutely nothing when your opponents throw CC at you, which is the thing Genji is the most vulnerable to. Most of the time I end up having to save my defensive skill until my opponents use their stuns, which makes very little sense to me on a design standpoint. In my opinion the deflect should just give you Protected and deal no damage otherwise, but it should also apply all targeted abilities (or just the first one) on the person casting them on you. That's basically how it works in Overwatch, Genji wins 1v1s by threatening people with his deflect and by not actually using it, which makes fighting Genji difficult despite his low damage output. It's the opposite in HotS where the best thing to do is to just blow all your poo poo on Genji immediately (as long as you have 1 stun)

I don't really know if Genji needs a buff though. I think he is pretty well balanced as he is. He could use some quality of life changes though, just so his pub winrate would go up and he would become less frustrating to play. The other thing that really fucks me over is the swift strike AoE, which is extremely small for an ability that needs to be landed if you don't want to instantly die after you get your target.

Johanna is good because she doesn't require much coordination to perform her role well. You can dive right into an enemy team, and even if your allies totally abandon you, she's slippery enough to escape unharmed most of the time. There's also generally no bad time to use her abilities, they're all effective for team fights, wave clear, whatever. The only thing she can't really do is surprise you with damage.

I don't actually have genji but when he's on the other team I quickly come to think of him as free xp. Maybe they just don't know how to play him though.

Make sure you have it set to "Co-op" or "A.I. Teammates" and not "Training".

What are your strats/thoughts for Hanamura so far? Here's my take:

  • It's a short map and getting a head start on the payloads is a huge adventage so drafts should be heavily weighted towards a strong early game and away from late game heroes like Nazeebo, Murky, Kael'thas, Butcher et al. Winning or at least surviving team fights is key.
  • Contest enemy payloads when they cross a lane so you can soak/push at the same time.
  • The health item merc camp is probably the most useful and can be taken with one charge of bribe. It has a tiny range, though, so make sure you're close to your support when you pop it so they get the mana benefit.
  • Dragon spirit camp is basically worthless in an uncoordinated game because you can probably easily deduce where the enemy team is already.
  • Exp for a camp is maybe 20-25% of a level. Nice, but not overly significant.
  • When the payloads first spawn the enemy team will probably go start escorting theirs. Good time for a surprise push against the opposite fort to get the 2x multiplier and massive exp lead (bonus points for Sylvanas value)
  • Double support very strong.

Minrad and I have been being very aggressive about camp clearing and it ends up letting us hit 4/7/10 30-60s earlier than the enemy team. This ends up mattering actually a lot.

The AOE heal is nice but the turret ends up doing more over time, I think. There's rarely a situation where you'd have to only choose one or the other, though. Having both up and running is as good as having a 6th ultimate on your team, though.

Yes it's been on co-op for most of my games and I even tried one with AI teammates just in case (geez that was boring). It worked on wednesday-thursday I think...
edit: googling seems to suggest that others have had same issues (and some of these posts are a year old). Can't see any particular fix though.

I have a little 1 over my Collections tab that's telling me I have a new Voice Line, but I don't have any new voice lines, none of the hero tabs have a number on them and there are no clips with a bright blue border to mouse over. I can't get rid of it and it's driving me insane.

Right click on the collections tab option and you can mark them all as seen.

If that doesn't work, you must really be bugged.
