Finished path A in Automata.

Everything about the game except for the combat is mediocre-to-terrible so I don't know if I can be bothered with the rest of the game.

The last 3ish hours were some of the most tedious I've spent whilst playing a game in a long time.

Everyone will tell you that you are nuts, but I can say I felt the exact same way about it for basically the entire first run. The general weirdness was the only thing that got me through to the first ending. It's grown on me a lot though. I still have a bunch of the same complaints I had early on, but I kind of stopped caring about them at a point and I am very glad I didn't quit. It's worth playing imo.

Eternal Sonata is amazing because the game's whole thesis, what it boils down to at the very end, is all the characters telling you to go outside.

It's hard to imagine playing it after Witcher 3 though

It's still fun. They're pretty different games so it's not like one invalidates the other or anything.

While I generally agree, and probably would have told that specific goon to stop playing, Nier's an odd case. It legitimately is one of those games that gets much, much better as you get deeper into the game. The problem is it takes way too long to get there.

I would probably have picked up Nier off the demo but the combat was pretty underwhelming to me so I passed. I might on sale though or something.

It does progress a little beyond the demo - there's a lot of weapons with different move sets, you get special moves beyond just the laser that you have in the demo (I think you have it in the demo?) - but the combat never gets that complicated. HOWEVER, the twin stick shooter part of the game does become more prominent, so if you like that (I did) that might make up for it.

I actually started out quite liking Nier but the more I played it, the more it annoyed me in pretty much everything other than the combat.

My completion time was only 16ish hours because I gave up on sidequesting at around 30% as nearly all of them were early 2000s MMO bear rear end collectathons/go talk to this guy and come back to me.

Maybe I just missed the point of the game or something but clunky anime nonsense isn't enough to keep me interested.

Also, the machines voices gave me a wicked headache : (

The story is the only really great part of Nier: Automata. And it is really great, and it elevates the whole game.

But if that's the part that you don't like, yeah, cut your losses.

Maybe stop playing video games if they all feel terrible? I mean that with no snark

I just beat Rise of the Tomb Raider even though I enjoyed neither its story or gameplay all that much. I had to try to play Human Revolution three times for a total of a dozen hours before I thankfully figured out I wasn't going to enjoy it. Bailing out of a game that everyone loves (and I loved Nier:A) is cool in my book as long as you don't start saying demonstrably incorrect things about it or attacking people who do like it

Like, for example Neir. I'm not even saying I don't like the story I cause I do. It's still a throw 100 things at the wall and see what sticks kind of affair though. Imao the Japanese can't put together a tight narrative to save their lives for the most part. Even the good stuff usually feels bloated as hell and is about as subtle as a Saturday morning cartoon.
