Through ten it was split on the scorecards, two judges with Joshua and one with Wlad.

I think even think klitschko should have been allowed to get up the second time in that round

wlad could be a bit of a oval office with backstage shenanigans but i can't help but like him

After the previous few Klitschko fights thank goodness this one wasn't a clutchfest too. Was a bit worried it'd stay slowed down after rounds 7-8.

Really good performance from AJ. I think you could tell Klitschko knew he was in trouble when he couldn't get it done after 7. The rally and energy spent over rounds 6 and 7 were pretty much his last stand. As soon as he reverted to clinching, the fight shifted back. Still took Joshua applying the finish, which deserves a lot of credit imo.

So does AJ crush Deontay Wilder or what? I only started giving a poo poo about heavyweight boxing as of now. Last big HW fight like this I remember was Vlad vs Haye, and that was a disgrace.
|
# ? Apr 29, 2017 23:16 |

Joshua would be favourite but Wilder has ridiculous one punch power, more than even Joshua probably, and more of a boxing brain than he gets credit for, so no one would be making any firm predictions on it
|
# ? Apr 29, 2017 23:28 |

I was impressed by how AJ closed out that fight. He looked out of his depth in those middle rounds when Vlad was circling him, but stepped his game up to finally corner Vlad with those flurries. I've only seen highlight reel one-punch stuff from Deontay, so yeah, I see what you mean.

I think Wlad was quite good, not a shot a fighter by any stretch, and that makes Joshua's win more legitimate. As someone who always had a soft spot for the older fighter Dr steelhammer wasn't a joke in there, this end of an Era didn't feel like a farce.

Both would knock out 90% of heavyweights, Vitali took it

It didn't KO Wlad either. Vitali had 20 seconds left in the round, Wlad had like 2 minutes. I think I agree with your overall point (Vitali is the better fighter with a stronger chin) but I think Wlad did fairly well all things considered.

Huh https://youtu.be/alzu9t1CmRM?t=1410. It didn't just not knock him out, he took it like another day at the office. Of all things I didn't think I'd be having to overly justify Vitali having a better chin than Wlad.

Just caught a replay. Holy poo poo, awesome fight, Joshua looked was dead and buried after 6. I'm surprised 2 judges had Joshua winning though, I thought Wlad was up at least 2 rounds.

So how does Anthony Joshua compare to the other two heavyweight champions, Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder? I want to know more about these fighters so that I can Joseph Parker https://www.forbes.com/sites/brianm...n/#48f487647e19 Looks like he took his belt from a fatty that shouldn't even be in his division, and still had to get a decision to do it? Maybe that's not fair, let's watch the fight and find out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9vhTmUq48Y Or actually gently caress that, we all know Wlad / Joshua was the last great heavyweight fight since the dinosaurs of Lewis and Hollyfield stopped roaming the earth, so let's just watch highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YZdzxhfjVc That looks more like one guy being poo poo than the other being great, like I'd googled up a low-light reel for Ruiz. Deontay Wilder looks like he might be the hardest hitter in a division that doesn't lack for choices? In particular it seems like he has, rather that just very "heavy" hands, real "one punch" KO power? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mqt6tW2a2Kc But like Tyson this highlight looks like a big old string of nobodies getting wrecked. So would the guys who follow this sport much better than I do throw me a bone? How does Joshua stack up to the other champs? And how much hope is there for unification bouts, or perhaps in an easier to answer question, which unification bout is most likely?

Parker's basically a nobody who won the title by being the slightly less awful of the two guys WBO chose to fight for it. Wilder certainly has power but he's hardly fought anyone good, and he took 9 rounds to beat Eric Molina while Joshua took 3. Unification is going to be tough, right now Joshua has at least 3 bigger money and higher-profile fights than either Parker or Wilder (Klitschko 2, Fury, Haye, probably Bellew too) so I wouldn't hold your breath for now.

Jack B Nimble posted:So how does Anthony Joshua compare to the other two heavyweight champions, Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder? I want to know more about these fighters so that I can Parker - He's good, and the guys he's beaten shows that. Ruiz is solid fighter despite his appearance and that's a legit win. Parker's wins haven't been incredibly inspiring though, he looks like he's better than good, but not truly great if that makes sense. Stylewise he's not a giant like the other champs and his arms are a bit short. He's got good power, but it's not insane. His boxing skills are good too, but again, there's nothing truly exceptional here. He was supposed to fight Hughie Fury, who is a fighter of similar quality. Wilder - Insane power, and great range too. His power is very legit, one punch KO stuff, and he's got an incredible straight right hand. His fundamentals are notably poor for a world champ, but he's got some sneaky overlooked assets in my opinion and he's won an Olympic bronze so it's not like he can't box. He's a threat to anybody in the division off that range and power, but he can certainly be outboxed and outworked Joshua would likely be favoured against both of them, with Wilder having a much better chance. A unification with Parker would probably sell pretty well with that commonwealth connection.

Best heavyweight championship fight since at least Vitali/Lewis, and with a definitive ending. Couldn't have had a better coming out for Anthony Joshua. He's going to be almost impossible to beat in the next few years. I don't see anyone who would be even close to the favourite against him.

Can someone explain to me why Vlad didn't throw this again https://gfycat.com/UniformLastAlleycat during rounds 8 9 and 10, and instead relied upon a decent jab to score points, and a crazy leaping left hook. The big right is far more accurate and straight.
