Just got my first combat ship (Vulture) and i got some questions; 1: What are some good weapons to stick on it? I went with gimballed multicannons cause bullets are cooler than lasers, but they have this spin-up component to them that was kinda annoying (mostly cause there is no spin-up sound so it just feels like my button isn't working). 2: How do collector limpets work exactly? I stuck one on my ship cause i figured it would scoop up all the stuff left after the battle, but i fire one off, it picks up something, comes back with it and dies. Is that how they are supposed to work? I was hoping one would go back and forth and collect all of it. 3: What site do you guys use to plan ship builds? The one i used was apparently out of date Vs what i actually encountered in game.

Dongattack posted:Just got my first combat ship (Vulture) and i got some questions; Gimballed burst lasers works best in my experience. Collector limpets will scoop up everything if you aren't targetting something scoopable, but releasing one while targetting a single item will cause it to expire after one retrieval.

The in-game description for collector limpets posted:Limpets controlled by this module can collect canisters and asteroid chunks automatically. Two modes of operation are possible. First a chunk or canister can be collected quickly by deploying the limpet whilst targeting the object in question; this will consume the limpet. Second a limpet can be deployed with no collectable object targeted and will result in the limpet entering a slower autonomous mode where it will collect any available object automatically for a set time. To collect asteroid chunks in either mode requires a Refinery module to be fitted. efb Trustworthy fucked around with this message at 04:21 on Apr 30, 2017 |

This seems dumb by the way. Why would I ever want it to only pick up one thing at the cost of a whole limpet?

So, I've finally managed to get most of the engineers (17/20) unlocked, and discovered the joys of EDengineer and EDapp. So, now that I have access to most of the mods, I was hoping to make my conda a more efficient killer. My current fit is below, and it seems pretty solid in a HazRES, but I'd love any advice people have: code:
I'm slowly grinding to rear admiral so I can finally buy my Fed Vette, but I figure a beefy conda will do till then.

A Charge Enhanced Power Distributor will make a big improvement on your life in combat, I coupled it with efficient beams and if you run even 3 pips in guns it doesn't ever empty the cap.

That Salome event went down so spitefully and the people being lovely and elitist in protecting her got so utterly karma'd that I would have put money down it was orchestrated by people from here. We need more of these events if only to get people out of their caves and have some good old fashioned "that just happened daaaamn".

Uhm holy poo poo? My worst fear is being the thousands of light years outside the bubble that I am, fooling around in my SRV, and getting irreparably stuck and dying. I'm not sure what happens when you die in an SRV.

I made it to Colonia this morning. What an experience. Exploring and making my way halfway across the galaxy was something I never thought I'd do in this game. After a quick refuel and some changes to my loadout to bump up to 42ly range, I'll leave Jaques for a while and head to Sag A.

The Cobra IV is a fat gently caress compared to its predecessor, but I do love the woosh it makes when you boost. Massive cargo capacity for a small multipurpose, too.

On my recent week-long voyage to Sag A* and back without using any neutron boosts I listened to a couple audiobooks, watched some Star Trek, listened to a bunch of Ken Burns documentaries, etc The upshot is that I got 100 million credits out of the trip and have since bought and outfitted a small fleet of mid-range ships and still only made like a 20 million credit dent in that

i'm currently running this route for 10 million credits: https://www.spansh.co.uk/?from=Toolfa&to=Skaude%20AA-A%20h294&range=26.9&job=48D3DD8E-2D25-11E7-A146-E6107C88AB1B&efficiency=100 (i'm too much of a pussy/highon/lush to neutron boost, forgot to bring repair modules for my FSD so it's the straight grind) i expect to make at least 100 million for the exploration data, in addition to spraying my name on some poo poo, which i'd never done before. i figure it's about a 30 hour round trip

Noob question incoming: How likely am I to get my face caved in trying to get G5 FSD rolls? I have an Asp E fitted for deep space exploration that I've modified with cargo space, collector limpet and wake scanner but I only have a 3D shield generator and no weapons. Should I get better shields and some weapons?

Most things that are involved in FSD 5 Range rolls don't require combat. Chemical Manipulators do in every way I've found them, but it's possible that there's some form of USS that could drop them if you hate yourself.
